Mark accepted Jon's challenge, along with three other men. Mary pulled Mel down to the shallow end so they could sit on the steps beneath the water and talk. Mary was real anxious to get Melody's ear.
“What is it? Is anything wrong?” Melody asked.
“Mel, I know it's impossible. It's just too impossible!” Mary sputtered.
“What's impossible, Mary? What do you mean?” Mel asked.
“Mel, I
know
it's impossible! I'm in love!” Mary said with sudden tears springing to her eyes.
Melody wasn't surprised at all, Jonathan had done her the same way. “Mary, it's
not
impossible. What are you feeling?”
“Mel . . . I just can't
stand
to be away from him. When he looks at me . . . I don't know, it just does something to me! His eyes Mel, he's got the sexiest eyes and body I have
ever
seen. I can't trust myself alone with him! I want him to make sweet, savage love to me, Mel. Have I lost my mind?!” Mary turned around and kept her back to the pool while crazy tears coursed down her cheeks.
Jonathan and Mark had turned to look at them from the other end of the pool. Jonathan gave her a look that asked was anything wrong. She shook her head no then put her finger to her lips and turned around as well.
“Mary, that's the way I felt when Jon and I met. It has a lot to do with the island that they come from.” Melody then gave her a condensed version of the Stirring and Bonding situation.
“Mel, are you serious? They Bond for life? Oh, Mel, that's too good to be true! You mean that the feelings that I have will stay with me for the rest of my life?”
“If Mark is indeed starting to bond with you. Mary, from what Jonathan has told me, it appears that he is.”
Melody turned just as Jonathan's hand touched her arm. He pulled her with him to the side of the pool while Mark took Melody's place with Mary.
Mark helped her out of the water, wrapped a huge towel around her, then they went walking on the beach.
Melody's eyes got misty watching them. Jonathan kept looking from them to her. He finally asked, but already knew the answer just by looking at her face, “Mel, my love, does she feel anything for Mark?”
She put her head on his broad shoulders and wept quietly nodding her head yes.
“That's wonderful, Mel! Then why are you crying?”
“I was just remembering the first time that you and I walked on the beach together like they're doing. I wanted you so bad, but I wanted you to respect me as well. I knew then that I could never love another man in my life, you were all I ever wanted!” Melody admitted between muffled tears.
“Was that bad?” Jon asked smiling.
“No, it was wonderful! I still can't get enough of you. I need you constantly, mentally, physically, spiritually as well as emotionally, and I'm afraid that one day I may lose you.”
“Lose me? No way! I’m stuck to you body and soul remember?” He turned around so her face was away from the few curious eyes that were watching and wondering what was happening. Kissing her hair and face he said, “You are my very heart, why in the world would you worry about losing me?”
She lifted her tear filled eyes then smiled seductively as she asked, “Jon, that woman who’s teaching you so much, could you possibly form a partial Bond with her as well?”
Laughing with relief he picked her up and sat her on the side of the pool. She had been very tricky. She was jealous! “No!” he admitted loudly so everyone heard, “I can't form even a little, itsy, bitsy, teeny bond with another woman! I'm now and forever and always bonded to you! Now, if you think that I'm going to tell you all my little secrets, well, I'm not.”
She ducked his head under the water, but he pulled her back in as she did. They romped and played until the two of them were exhausted. After he had picked her up and thrown her over his head for the tenth time with her screaming in delight they remembered they had other guests.
Jon pulled her out of the water and they lay panting on the deck. He finally got up and called for refreshments and snacks to be brought out. Melody got up and started looking toward the beach for Mary and Mark, they weren't to be found.
“Jon,” she said as she pulled him aside, “I don't see Mary or Mark anywhere!”
Jon's face immediately looked troubled. He went to the bell that signaled dinner when they were along the shore line and rang it loudly.
Their disappearance hadn't gone unnoticed by any of the other men either. They asked Jon if they should go looking for Mark. He told them no, that Mark had said that they were going further down to look at some of the other houses from the beach side. He lied.
After everyone had drinks and sandwiches they began to leave, thanking their hosts for the fun time.
Mel and Jon sat out on the veranda worrying like a couple of parent's waiting on their wayward teens to come home. After a while Mary and Mark came walking up with a glow radiating from both of them. Jon started to get up and have a heated private talk with Mark, but Mel squeezed his hand and he sat back down.
“Jonathan and Melody, my two dearest friends,” Mark started saying as he and Mary walked up the steps holding hands. “Mary has agreed to marry me as soon as it can be arranged!”
Melody and Jonathan both flew to them with hugs and kisses. Mary was ecstatic with joy and so full of love for Mark that she couldn't stay more than a few feet from him. Mel saw that Jon had asked Mark something, Mark shook his head no, then Jonathan really hugged his friend.
“How about tomorrow about one? That's a great time for a wedding, don't you think Jon?” Mel asked crying with joy along with Mary.
Mark asked, “Why not tonight? We don't want anything like the two of you had. Besides, I'm not a Prince being crowned along with my Princess bride.”
Mel and Jonathan were completely at a loss for words, they couldn't possibly prepare a wedding that fast! Or could they?
Mark pulled Jonathan aside and said, “Jon, I can’t wait. If you think that you were bad, then you won't want to see me around three in the morning!”
Jon looked at Melody with questioning eyes, “Jon, if you can get those special friends of yours to come up with a marriage license like they did with us so fast, then let's do it! Mary is agreeable, and wants it to happen too,” Melody said.
Mark and Jon flew into the house and Jonathan began making phone calls. By the time that all his people were notified they had agreed to get the license in one hour. Melody informed the chef to get all the help he needed but that they would need a wedding cake, bought if necessary, but that they were having a
midnight
wedding.
Jon's people came flooding in, bringing all sorts of equipment and supplies for the decorations. Even Aunt Cassandra and Aunt Cherise called to ask if they could help. Melody said yes, they were the best organizers that she knew. They arrived in fifteen minutes, thrilled to death that Mark had finally found his mate. They were used to these spontaneous weddings, Melody was not.
The aunts sent Melody and Mary upstairs to get her ready. “Mary!” Melody suddenly exclaimed, “Dear friend, you need a wedding dress!”
“Don't worry Mel, I have one. I designed it myself. I was going to have them model it at the show tomorrow, but I won't now! Ohhh, Mel, isn't this too good to be true? Pinch me and tell me I'm not dreaming! Mark is the absolute most perfect man on earth.”
Melody helped Mary with the dress after she showered and dressed herself. As they were getting the veil on just right Jonathan knocked on the door.
“Mary, it's time I take you to Mark, are you ready?”
Melody opened the door and straightened Mary's train as she walked out onto the inside balcony. Melody looked down into their huge great room and saw that even it and the stairs had been decorated already. “Jonathan, let me get David and get seated then you come down.”
“Aunt Cassandra insisted on taking care of David, just go get a seat, Mel, and relax some,” Jonathan said smiling at his wife's excitement.
Melody almost ran down the stairs, she straightened the sleeves on her arms. She also made sure that she hadn't dropped anything on the turquoise silk dress.
She was astonished with what the aunts had gotten accomplished. The veranda was the place where the priest would have them exchange their vows. The garden was alight with tiny tree lights. Chairs for the guests were placed there as well. Melody found her empty chair in the front row beside the aunt's chairs.
David was dressed and bright eyed, as though he somehow knew that something important was taking place. He looked like a little groom with his black tux. He smiled when he saw his mother and let out a noise that sounded a lot like ‘Mama’. Aunt Cherise heard it to. She looked at Mel with surprise in her eyes. As Melody sat down she leaned over to her and asked, “Aunt Cherise, did I hear him say ‘Mama’?”
“You surely did!” the aunt responded with a broad grin and a nod.
Just then Jonathan came out with Mary. She was beautiful.
Mark was a love struck zombie. All he could look at was Mary. Melody's heart filled with joy for the both of them, they indeed were a perfect match. Even their personalities were similar. Both of them with curly blond hair too! Melody watched with tears in her eyes as she saw her two best friends Bonded for life.
Melody only hoped that the drink that the priest had given Mary wouldn't have the same reaction for her as she had experienced. Mark and Mary were turned and the ceremony was over. They were now almost totally Bonded.
Jonathan came straight to Mel and gave her a big hug and kiss, nearly crushing her in the process. She knew that he was excited for his life-long friend. He got David from Aunt Cherise and with his other arm wrapped around his wife he led everyone into the house.
As they entered the larger banquet room, Melody was shocked again. The cake and food looked wonderful, as well as the decorations of pale green, light pink, and white that was artfully done. There were matching flowers in abundance everywhere.
“Jon, where should they spend the night?” Melody whispered to him after tugging his sleeve.
“It's already arranged, it Mark's room.” Suddenly looking worried he added, “Mel, as long as that's alright with you?” She readily nodded her approval.
He looked relieved then motioned to several of his men. They came immediately and listened attentively as he told them what he wanted. They left then to see that everything was done as Jon requested.
He motioned for Mel to sit. Then he sat down beside her, “Mel, I told them to take the healing oil into Mark's room, then to be certain that his door was decorated and the room as well. They will also have a bottle of champagne and some fruit and food.” He winked and added with a slight laugh, “They'll both need energy! Mark's half insane, now.”
