Chapter 28

Silently I listen to Crabby as he collects his things. When his hand brushed my hair away, I had been tempted to roll over. To grab his hand and beg him not leave. Instead, I had laid on the bed, patiently waiting until he left the room. It wasn’t until I heard the bikes leaving the compound that I had finally risen from the bed. In the shower, my tears had fallen. When I entered the main hall, I felt all eyes on me. With determination, I held my head high, and when I found Rayven, I went over to her.

“Morning.”

“Morning.”

“You didn’t see Crabby off.”

“No.”

“Emily for five years you fought for Crabby. You went out of your way to get him and now you're letting him go.”

“I know.”

“Why?”

“Do we have to talk about it?”

“Yes, we do.”

“I never saw us leaving Comfort Springs. I always thought we would have our battles here. But I was wrong.”

Rayven leant back against her chair, her eyes speculative as she studied me, and I found myself squirming in my chair.

“What’s really keeping you here Emily.”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“Have you grown up Emily. Did you decide that life on the road isn’t as romantic as having someone in prison to moon over?”

“Don’t be a bitch.”

“I’m your older sister. I can be a bitch. But you have to think about what you want.”

Before I can answer, Rayven was gone. Rayven was wrong, I love Crabby and it has nothing to do with him being in prison. When my stomach rumbles I realize I haven’t had anything to eat since yesterday. After breakfast I have a visit to make.

“The house is so quiet now that Luke has returned to college.”

“It can’t be that quiet with Georgie still about.”

“Since he moved into the clubhouse I don’t see much of him. And with Quick Draw gone… well”

Momma rolled her shoulder as she raised her coffee mug to her mouth.

“I’m sure he’ll be back Momma.”

“Will he. He took that woman with him. She’s married you know.”

When I raise my eyebrow, Momma blushes and I couldn’t hide my smile. Quick Draw always went after what he wanted and he got it.

“What about you Emily?”

“What about me.”

“Are you going to make the same mistake as me, and let something good slip through your fingers.”

“I thought you would be happy at how things have developed between Crabby and myself.”

“Teddy tells me I have to stop being bitter.”

“Does he make you happy?”

“He wants us to live together.”

At Momma’s declaration all I can do is stare at her.

“And.”

“I’ve agreed. He’s moving in here. It’ll be much easier as the house is set-up for my needs.”

Momma took another sip of her coffee. Her eyes studying me as I sip my coffee.

“Do you want to be happy Emily.”

“What about my promise to you.”

“And what about the promise you made Crabby when you agreed to be his wife.”

“Have I told you how much I love you Momma.”

“Go Emily while you still can.”

After leaving Momma’s I went to the park and watch the empty swings. As the swings swung in the air, I remembered the night Crabby had brought me down here. It was late, gone midnight and I couldn’t sleep. He had pushed me until I was flying high in the air. Exhilarated by our little trip, Crabby had then taken me back to the apartment where he had made love to me. That was the first night I had slept through, not waking till late morning. Since then, although I still have nights when I didn’t sleep, they had become less. That was until four nights ago and again, my nights have become restless.

“A penny for them.”

“Hi Sugar Jay. They’re worth more than a penny.”

“Look at us Emily. Deserted by our men.”

“No Sugar Jay, I deserted my man, but I can fix it.”

“I hope it works out.”

“Yeah, me too… What about you? What are you going to do?”

“Bastion’s on his way.”

“What about Sundance.”

“I’m a fighter, not a quitter. Although it may look differently at the moment. But as in all wars, I know when to retreat and when to advance.”

Now that I knew what I was going to do. My heart was all a skitter, even my palms were clammy. What if Crabby didn’t want me on the road. The doubts flooded my brain, yet I wasn’t going to let them stop me. Rayven was right, I had fought my family and the club for five years and I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from claiming what was mine. Jumping up from the bench, I look down at Sugar Jay and her bump. On impulse, I gave the young woman a hug.

“Good Luck Sugar Jay. I’ll write.”

Sugar Jay returned my hug.

“Yeah, I’ll look forward to them. Just do me a favor.”

“Sure.”

“Don’t mention any of the skanks Sundance fucks in your letters.”

With one last hug and kiss, I pull away and with a laugh.

“I’ll keep him too occupied to think about fucking anyone else but you.”

I’ve never been to ‘Tie Me Down’ and as I enter the front doors, the place was eerily quiet. In my car was a back-pack with some of my clothing. I’d made a quick call to my landlord and given my notice. Rayven has promised she will clear the apartment out for me and now I was on the hunt for Tabby.

My knock was tentative as I wait for him to answer. When he does, it takes me another thirty seconds for me to pluck up the courage to face my brother in law.

“Are you going to stand at the doorway all day.”

Sheepishly I walk over to the vacant chair Tabby was pointing at, and I smile at the man. I love Tabby, especially for what he has done with Rayven. When I was younger, I would listen to Rayven cry at night when she thought I was asleep. A sound which broke my little heart because I didn’t know how to stop it. From the moment she met Tabby, her crying stopped, only to be replaced by a silly grin.

“I need to know where Crabby and the others are.”

Tabby leant back in his chair, his fingers tapping gently as he studied me.

“Are you sure this is what you want.”

“I waited for him Tabby. I knew what to expect. But I became scared at the thought of leaving Comfort Springs. At leaving the safety of my family. So yes, it’s what I want.”

Tabby continued to stare. His gaze unnerving me, causing me to look nervously out of the window, where a huge smile spreads across my face. On the wall painted in white, is a large heart with the words Tabby and Rayven forever with an arrow pierced through it.

“I’ll take you.”

“What about my car?”

Tabby has risen and is in the process of putting on his cut and was through the door before I have left my seat.

“I’ll take it to Fudge and get you a fair price for it.”

As I reach into the backseat and pull out my back-pack, I realize this was it. My last link with my old life was this car, and after today I’d never see it again.

“Why aren’t you trying to stop me Tabby.”

“I chased Rayven and persuaded her to return to Comfort Springs. Dec chased Ivy. As a family tradition, it’s only right that you’re the one to chase Crabby.”

Impulsively, I swing my arms around Tabby, kissing him on the cheek.

“Thank you for not lecturing.”

As I mount the Harley and settle behind Tabby, Inferno rode into the parking lot, and I watch as he removes his helmet, and he gives me the okay sign. My heart is beating erratically. I know I’m doing the right thing and finally I have the blessing of the club.

In the late evening, Tabby pulled into the motel and booked a room. As I bounce on the single bed, Tabby laughs.

“Enjoy it tonight Apple-Pie, because it’ll be a long time before you sleep on a comfortable bed.”

As I raise my gaze to Tabby, my cell pinged.

Chapter 29

As Tabby pulls into a layby I spot a half dozen people sitting at a table. My heart quickening when I recognize them as Devil’s Comfort, and amongst them is Crabby, who was rising as Tabby parked his bike next to the others. To hide my excitement, I keep my shades in place, and bite on my lip as I dismount.

“Apple-Pie.”

“Crabby.”

I was desperate to reach out and to touch him. To make sure I wasn’t hallucinating, Yet, somehow I manage to keep my hands down by my sides. Crabby’s gaze is searching the area and as I follow his gaze, I notice the others were watching us.

“Not here Apple-Pie.”

As he spoke, Crabby guided me to his bike and before long we were parked further along the road. This layby was deserted and after I dismount from the bike, Crabby guides us to the empty bench.

“I didn’t know what to think when you didn’t answer my text.”

“I was tempted, but I wanted to surprise you.”

“You sure did that Apple-Pie.”

“I think that’s my favorite text. Ever.”

Crabby’s hands reach over and he pushes my sunglasses onto the top of my head. His blue eyes were crinkling and I was home.

“I was a fool Crabby.”

“Maybe. Or we both were.”

His hands were now linked with mine and mesmerized, I study his flesh.

“What about your promise to Laura?”

I answered with Momma’s

“What about my promise to you.”

“Apple-Pie.”

“She was okay. It’s not as though we won’t be returning to Comfort Springs to visit.”

Crabby threw back his head and laughed. A sound I have missed so much in the last five days.

“Crabby.”

Crabby has raised my hands to his mouth, and was rubbing his lips over their backs.

“Erm.”

“Would you have followed the text up.”

Crabby became thoughtful, his thumb sliding across my flesh, sending goosebumps up my arms.

“I would have come back for you Apple-Pie.”

“And if I had refused to leave Comfort Springs.”

This time Crabby’s eyes are full of wickedness as he winks at me.

“I would have made love to you and refused to give you your orgasm until you agreed.”

This time I’m the one who laughs, startling a bird as it flutters in a tree and chirps back.

“I wish I had known that Crabby. But I can always ask Tabby to take me back.”

“Not happening. You’re here now, and we’re going to make this work.”

“No more running.”

“Not from each other.”

“So it’s going to be life on the road.”

“Yep. Are you up to it?”

“With you to keep me warm at night. I’m up for anything.”

“What about school?”

“I’ll take this year off. And when we settle, I’ll return to school and qualify as a nurse… Crabby?”

“Yes?”

How was I supposed to think with Crabby trailing kisses over my hand, and up my arms? With a gentle smile, I look at the biker.

“No more killings?”

“Only if you stop getting yourself into trouble.”

Crabby stopped kissing my hands, but he didn’t let go of them as he looked at me.

“I’ve killed two men Apple-Pie and if anyone hurts you again. I’ll kill them if I have to. Besides, they were a waste of life and it never bothered them who they killed or hurt.”

I have chosen a biker, and a biker’s life, to be my partner for life. Along with it came his lifestyle, and I have to accept the consequences which came with it.

“Apple-Pie.”

“Yes.”

“I have no intention of returning to prison. I promised you that before, and I aim to keep my promise.”

Breaking hold of Crabby’s grip, I stroke his face. The touch of his flesh against my palm was both smooth and rough.

“You need a shave.”

“Later.

MSD

The moment I sent the text; my heart had stopped beating. When there hadn’t been any response, I had stopped breathing. Then carefully I had returned the cell to my pocket and returned to the small party. When in the morning there still hadn’t been any response from Apple-Pie I had silently mounted the Harley and followed the group. As the day had lengthened, and still no response, my temper had started to mount. It was only after Trax had pulled into the layby I had begun to tell my fellow bikers; I was returning to Comfort Springs. Only to have my conversation broken by Trax’s laughter and the sound of a bike.

As Apple-Pie dismounted from the bike, I couldn’t have risen from my seat quick enough. I had had to pace myself not rush over to her. To touch her. To grab her, and pull her into me. No, my lady hadn’t answered my text. She had gone one better. She was here in the flesh. As I studied Apple-Pie everything around me faded. Yet I knew here wasn’t the place to talk and when she willingly came with me on the bike, I had smiled. With her body leant against mine. My body had come back to life.

As soon as we sat down on the picnic bench, I had been unable to stop touching Apple-Pie, and when her hand had stroked my face, blood had rushed to my cock.

“Apple-Pie.”

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry.”

“About what.”

“Not talking to you about leaving Comfort Springs.”

“Yes, well. Next time you plan on making a big decision which will affect our lives. Talk to me.”

“Are you happy Apple-Pie. Happy to take to the roads.”

Apple-Pie was fiddling with my fingers. Her fingers, gliding over the gold band she had placed there a month ago.”

“The only time I’m happy. Really happy is when I’m with you. So if that means life on the roads or back at Comfort Springs, or any other town. As long as you’re with me, I’ll be happy.”

Silence descends around us, and I was contended to just watch Appel-Pie.

“Crabby.”

“Yes.”

“You remember how we spent Christmas day.”

At the memory of our first Christmas, I smile whimsically.

“Yes.”

“And I told you I’ve loved you forever.”

“Yes.”

“It’s true, I have… But at the same time… for five years I put you on a pedestal...”

As Apple-Pie begins to talk, my body became tense.

“And maybe I did hero worship you. And maybe I was blinded by your looks… After all, I was becoming a woman Crabby, and maybe I was infatuated by everything.”

Apple-Pie has slipped from her bench and is now sitting on my knee. Her hand stroking my neck and I was having problems thinking.

“Where’s this going Apple-Pie.”

Apple-Pie stretched her head up to mine and placed a kiss on my lips. A sweet innocent kiss.

“When I made my promise to Momma about staying in Comfort Springs I may have been behaving rashly. I just want you to know that I’ll never do it again.”

Apple-Pie places another kiss on my lips, and my limp cock grows some more, pushing up against my zipper.

“Is this one of your rash promises.”

Apple-Pie punched me on my shoulder as she kissed my neck.

“No Crabby. I’m telling you I love you and that it’s real. No infatuation, no hero worship. Just that I love you. I love Christopher Winston Theriot, otherwise known as Crabby.”

“I love you Emily Winters Theriot, otherwise known as Apple-Pie.”

Apple-Pie’s hand has snaked under my T-shirt, causing my blood to rise as she deepens the kiss. Her lips soft against mine.

The layby was secluded and we were all alone.

“Apple-Pie if you don’t stop now. They’ll be no stopping.

“Good.”
