It was almost midnight and I crashed into a lawn chair on the balcony outside my bedroom. No doubt there was no place like home, but the mansion that I lived in, or my extreme wealth, was not enough to kick the loneliness I felt inside. To me, this day had delivered hell, and I wished like hell that my pain from Nokea's rejection would go away. I hadn't felt like this is a long time. The hurt brought back my anguish from being placed in that orphanage at nine years old, after Mama was killed. I was in that place until I was sixteen. During those years, I looked forward to Nokea and her mother visiting me. Their faces always brought me true joy. I could rarely recall a time that Nokea's presence didn't make me feel good. I never thought the day would come when I didn't want to see or hear from her again.
The roaring thunder kept interrupting my sleep, but I was finally awakened by my ex-girlfriend, Scorpio, kissing my lips. She rubbed her fingers through my naturally curly hair, and straightened my thick eyebrows. I slowly opened my eyes and just stared. I was in no mood for fucking. All I wanted to know was why? Why wouldn't Nokea give me what I wanted? She said that she loved me and for damn sure knew how much I loved her, so why? Why did she walk away from the altar earlier that day?
I was humiliated. Downright pissed off and seriously ready to kick somebody's ass. After she left me standing there like a fool, I didn't know what else to do but walk away too.
I sat with no emotions as Scorpio stared deeply into my grey eyes. She leaned in for a kiss, but I turned my head to avoid it. All I could think about was how the “Atomic Dog” in me was getting ready to come out. Whoever crossed me this time was going to pay. My cousin Stephon was at the top of my list and Nokea, the woman that I still loved, was closely behind.
Scorpio demanded my attention by rubbing her fingers along the sides of my neatly trimmed beard. “Say, I know you're hurting, but can I at least get a smile out of you? If you didn't want to be bothered, then why did you call me to come over?”
I moved Scorpio away from me and went into my spacious bedroom. While loosening my tie and unbuttoning my shirt, my throat began to ache. I didn't want Scorpio to see the obvious pain I was in, so I went into my walk-in closet. She followed. “You haven't said anything to me since I walked through that door. Whenever you want to talk, just let me know. I'm not going to pressure you,” she said.
She helped me out of my shirt and laid it across her arm. Then she removed my belt and unzipped my pants. When she squatted down to help me out of them, a pleasant thought came to mind.
“Give me some head,” I asked softly.
“What?” She looked up.
“You heard me.”
“Jaylin, you know better coming to me like that. You haven't said anything all night, but you have the nerve to ask for some head.”
I looked down at her still squatted in front of me. “Listen!” I yelled. “Are you going to do it or not? If not, then get the hell out of my closet! I'm not in the mood for any bullshit!”
Scorpio stood up, laid my shirt on my shoulder, and left the closet without saying a word. I grabbed her arm. “Where do you think you're going?” I asked.
“I'm going home.” She snapped, snatching her arm away. “You are one crazy high-yellow Negro. I don't have the time or energy to curse you the hell out because I'm trying to be patient and understand what you're going through. Mackenzie told me about what happened at the wedding, and I didn't want you being alone. That's why I came, but I'm not going to let you dump on me because some other bitch fucked up your day.”
“She's not a bitch, so watch your damn mouth, okay?”
“Defend the B-I-T-C-H if you wantâthat's your choice. But I call it as I see fit. In the meantime, I'm getting the hell out of here. Call me when you're willing to get your act together.”
Scorpio grabbed her purse off the chaise and headed toward the bedroom double glass doors. I dashed out of the closet and blocked her path. “Hey, I'm sorry. Don't go. It's been a messed-up day, and I really need you to stay.” I gave her a quick peck on the lips, but when I tried to get some tongue action, she wouldn't open her mouth.
“Jaylin, kissing me doesn't make up for how you've treated me. I'm sorry too, but I'm going home tonight. So, please move out of my way.”
She pulled on my arm that was in her way. I didn't budge.
“I said stay. Please,” I begged.
“And I said I'm leaving. Now, move your arm so I can go.”
I let her pass by. When she reached the stairs, I ran up behind her and begged again. “Don't go, Scorpio. Make love to me, on the stairs, like you did when we first met. Please . . . I need you to relax my mind and put me at ease for the night.”
She ignored me and kept on moving down the T-staircase. I hurried in front of her and carried her back up the steps, but she kicked her legs, trying to make me lose my balance.
“Put me down, Jaylin,” she yelled. “I said I'm going home!”
When we reached the top step, I dropped her to the floor and kneeled between her legs. I eased my boxers low enough to expose my dick and massaged it to make it hard.
Scorpio sat up on her elbows and moved her head from side to side. “Not tonight, Jaylin. I'm not letting you do this to me, not after how you've treated me.”
“I'm sorry! Damn! How many times do I have to say it?”
She backed away from me, crawling to my bedroom doors. I grabbed her ankles and lifted her skirt. She rested on her stomach and I laid my body on top of hers.
“I told you I didn't want this,” she said. “Why are you forcing yourself on me?”
I squeezed her hands together with mine and placed my lips on her ear. “Because I need you, baby. Can't you see how much I'm hurting? You said you'd be here for me, didn't you?” I lowered my hand to rub her ass, then moved her panties slightly to the side.
I rotated my fingers inside of her and the juices started to flow. “Can I have you now?” I whispered in her ear. “I'm dying to feel the inside of you.”
Scorpio's eyelids fluttered, and when she nodded, I went for it. I inched my way into her wetness and took deep strokes, my eyes closed. The feeling of her juicy, warm pussy always had a way of relaxing me. I moved her long hair away from her back and pecked it with my lips. “Damn, you're good,” I said. “Too, too good.”
She backed me up and got on her hands and knees. That was even better. As I slammed my hardness into her from behind, we started to sweat. Scorpio took deep breaths and dropped her head in defeat. “LeâLet's go to the bed Jaylin. You're hurting me on the floor and I really need to get comfortable.”
I removed my nine and made my way to the California king-sized bed. I sat with one leg on the floor, and patted my lap so she'd know I was ready for a ride. She stood at the door and worked her skirt over her curvaceous hips.
“I told you not tonight, but why do you always insist on having your way?”
I winked. “Because my way is the only way.”
“Not always, Jaylin. Goodnight and I love you.” She blew me a kiss and flew down the stairs so I couldn't catch her. By the time I got out of bed and made it to the stairs, she had closed the front door behind her. I was left holding a hard dick in my hand, and had to resort to the
magazine in my closet. I couldn't believe Scorpio had played me. I'd for damn sure make her pay for it later.
After lying across my bed for hours, sulking about Nokea, I finally got up to take a shower. The water sprayed my body as I pressed my hands against the marble wall, thinking about my dramatic day. Nokea had looked so beautiful. All she'd had to do was say yes. We could be celebrating our honeymoon right now, if she hadn't shown how much a coward she was by running out the door.
Stephon, my own damn flesh and blood, seemed devastated that Nokea had walked out on him too. He knew better than to try and marry the woman I loved, but was foolish enough to run after her. I had already made a complete idiot of myself by interrupting their wedding and walking up to the altar. Every eye was on me. When Nokea's father yelled for me to, “get the fuck out,” that was enough. My baby girl, Mackenzie, took my hand and we walked out together. I saw Nokea drive off, leaving Stephon with his hands in his pockets and shaking his head. I wanted to run his ass over. If Mackenzie hadn't been in the car, I probably would have. She really helped me keep it together, but I was glad to drop her off at home. She had too many questions and I wasn't in the mood to answer them. When Scorpio had come over, I thought it was to comfort me. But at a time when I needed her most, she had the nerve to play games and walk out on me.
Nokea, though, had always been there for me. In the past, she seemed to be willing to give me what I wanted. I guess my relationships with other women had her singing a new tune. I was so sure that she'd forgiven my past mistakes, but apparently I was wrong. Her being there for me was one of the many reasons I loved her so much. Even though that hoochie ex-girlfriend of mine, Felicia, also gave me what I wanted, I could never love her because of her whorish ways. She wasn't nothing but a freak, and I couldn't believe she had the nerve to have sex with Stephon after all that good-ass loving I kicked down. I chuckled and realized that I had taught her well.
Saturday night was working on Sunday night by the time I moseyed out of bed. The phone had woken me several times, and at one point, I sat up to check the weather in St. Louis. I lived close by in Chesterfield, an upscale neighborhood. When the weatherman announced more rain heading our way to cool the one-hundred-degree temperature, I turned off the television and pulled the covers over my head.
My stomach growled, so I went into the kitchen to look for something to eat. It was patheticâcouldn't find much of nothing in the fridge. There was a small container of strawberry ice cream in the freezer; it would have to do. In the dark, I straddled a stool in front of the kitchen island and started to eat licking the ice cream from the spoon, wishing it were Nokea. The last time we made love felt so right. All I could think about was her bright smile, her scent, and her silky smooth, petite body that I caressed in my arms that day. We were both filled with emotions. I just knew she'd do right by me and our son, LJ, short for Little Jaylin. I wasn't sure how I was going to approach my situation with him, but some serious changes had to be made soon. Simone had already taken our daughter, Jasmine. I'd be damned if I let another child slip away. LJ wasn't even a year old yet, and he needed me. I might not have been prepared to talk to Nokea or Stephon after how they betrayed me, but I'd make them regret ever stabbing me in my damn back.
I finished my ice cream and reached for the phone to check my messages. There were seven; I listened to them one by one. Scorpio had called explaining why she left me hanging last night, and then she'd called again and reminded me about picking up Mackenzie today. I had so much shit on my mind that I forgot. My secretary, Angela, had called to tell me she wasn't going to make it for work tomorrow because she was ill. Brashaney, one of my lovers, had called to tell me how badly she wanted me to fuck her, and Stephon had called, insisting that we needed to talk. Calls seven and eight were Nokea. She felt like she owed me an explanation and wanted to come by. I deleted each message. The only person I wanted to talk to was Mackenzie, so I called Scorpio's place and asked for her.
“I was wondering when you were going to call,” Scorpio said with a bit of snap in her voice. “Mackenzie has been asking for you all day long.”
“Then cut with the attitude and give her the phone.”
“I will. Before I do, though, I want to talk to you about last night.”
“There's nothing for us to discuss. Now, put Mackenzie on the phone.”
“Jaylin, you know you were wrong forâ”
“Woman! Didn't you hear what I said? I don't want to hear your mouth! Put Mackenzie on the phone, so I can apologize for not picking her up today. After we left the church yesterday, I told her I'd pick her up.”
Scorpio hung up and I called right back. “Helloooo,” she said in a sarcastic tone. I didn't find any humor in her games.
“Don't make me disrespect you, all right? Now, I'm asking you nicely to give the phone to Mackenzie.”
“She's asleep right now. I hope you didn't expect her to stay up all night waiting for you.”
I hung up on her. She called back as I was getting Scorpio refused to open the door. When I reminded her I had a key to let myself in, she opened it. I walked by her to Mackenzie's room, and climbed into bed with her, rubbing my nose against hers until she slowly opened her eyes. I turned on the lamp so she could see me. Trails of tears had dried on her face.
“Why were you crying?” I asked, tickling her to cheer her up. She gave me a hard time like Scorpio and wouldn't even crack a smile. “Okay, then I won't tell you what I have planned for us next weekend.” She folded her arms and pouted. “I guess I'll just have to take Barbie to the circus with me, since you don't want to go.”
She revealed her pearly whites and gave me a hug. “Are we really going to the circus, Daddy?”
“Yes, and after the circus we're going to stop at Mc-Donalds for hamburgers.” She pouted again. “Jackin-the-Box?” I said. She rolled her eyes. “How about Burger King?” Her eyes looked like they disappeared to the back of her head. “Okay, what about one of my favorites? Outback Steakhouse.” She smiled. No doubt about it, I was teaching her to have the best. At five years old, I was lucky to get a hamburger from White Castle.
