“Are you mad or upset that he didn’t allow you to get
to know him during his illness?” Nic asked. “Because it sounds a lot like
something you would do, so I wouldn’t hold it too much against him.” He
released a small huff after that remark.

A small smile curved my lips. He knew me. But it was
something unselfish he would have done as well. “Those were my first thoughts.
I would have loved to get to know him again. The things I remember of him were
good, and the letter reinforces those memories. My second thought, however, was
what if we had reconnected? My path in life would have changed and I might have
never met you. That thought is absolutely abhorrent to me. It helps me to
understand my grandfather’s choice better. If I had to choose between you or
him…I think I would choose you, but I’m glad I didn’t have to.”

Nic kissed the top of my head. “I’m glad you never had
to choose either, even though I wished you would have had each other. From his
words he sounds like an exceptional person, strong just like you are. And hell,
I’m glad I don’t have to worry about him haunting me, because I will always be
totally devoted to you.”

I sniffed wiping my face clean of tears and other stuff
before facing him. His green eyes overflowed with love and my heart clenched in
wonder at seeing it. “I feel the same way.”

We kissed softly and then I rested my head on his
shoulder. We sat that way for a couple minutes.

“So I guess you got out of me buying you a car since
your grandfather’s given you one.” Nic commented. “You’re lucky, because I
would have eventually gotten my way.”

I laughed shaking my head. “God, your ego is massive.
Guess what? Now I can start threatening to buy you stuff all the time. I’m
going to inundate you with gifts, just you wait.”

“Psst,” Nic scoffed. “You’d run out way before me.”

I frowned. I’d never asked Nic about the amount of his
trust fund because I really hadn’t cared about it, only that he would have been
deprived of something that was his. I looked up and narrowed my eyes. “Just how
much is your trust fund?”

Nic rolled his eyes up to the ceiling and blew out a
deep breath. There was a definite curl to the corner of his mouth. “A little
more than yours,” was all he said.

Mine was around six hundred thousand which blew my
mind. I can’t believe grandfather had left that all to me. If Nic had a little
more… “So, like a million.” I gasped in disbelief. Wow!

Nic sighed and rolled his eyes the other way. His lip
was still curled. “A lit-tle more.” He said emphasizing the ‘little’. Somehow I
don’t think his little was really little at all.

“Oh. My. God. It’s not little at all. It’s huge, is
it?” I gasped in amazed dismay. I was dating a possible multi-millionaire.

“That’s what they all say.” Nic stated proudly wiggling
his hips under mine.

I gaped at him, and his innuendo, before busting out
laughing.
