Thank you to Eddie (Kate Burnitt), Chren Byng and Barbara Mobbs â the kind and clever women who continue to guide and support me in my work.
Thank you, once again, to Lucia Masciullo. I go all gooey with emotion every time your new illustrations come through. Writing about Olive and her friends is a bundle of laughs, but you lift the experience to a whole new level of joy with your delightful artwork.
Thank you to my own two naughty boys, Klaus and Finn. Your humour, cheekiness and brilliance inspire me more than you will ever know.
Thank you to Carsten, my darling husband, for frolicking cheerfully beside me through another story. You are the cogs in the cuckoo clock of my mind, the cherries in the Black Forest gateau of my heart, the drifts of edelweiss across the alpine meadow of my life.
KATRINA NANNESTAD
grew up in country New South Wales in a neighbourhood stuffed full of happy children. Her adult years have been spent teaching, raising boys, perfecting her recipe for chocolate-chip bickies, time travelling and pursuing her love of stories.
Katrina celebrates family, friendship and belonging in her books. She also loves writing stories that make children laugh. What can be better than contagious belly giggles, hen-like cackles or wild guffaws that end in a snort?
Katrina now lives near Bendigo with her family and an exuberant black whippet called Olive. She dreams of one day owning a spotted pig called Harold and a goat called Feta.
LUCIA MASCIULLO
lives on the Gold Coast, where she works as a freelance illustrator. It's the best job in the world, she says.
Born and bred in Italy, Lucia moved to Australia in 2007. Since then she has collaborated with Australian and English publishers, illustrating more than fifteen books and the series Our Australian Girl.
Lucia likes to create whimsical characters and dynamic compositions, and she works with traditional techniques, mixing watercolour, acrylic and pencil.
When not in her studio, she enjoys bushwalking, surfing and eating home-made pizza.
