“Nor I you,” he said just as softly. Then a smile lit up his eyes and Winnie was struck again by just how lucky she was to have this man who laughed easily and loved with his whole heart.

“And certainly not at this accursed Christmas party,” he said wryly, glancing up to where someone had festooned a bough of mistletoe above their heads.

“It hasn’t been so bad.” She laughed, joy and love making her giddy. “I can think of one or two redeeming factors about it.”

“What’s that?” he asked, kissing a path down her neck in a way that made Winnie’s toes curl.

“It gifted me with you,” she said simply.

His response was not verbal, but next to her song, Winnie thought it might be her favorite Christmas gift of all.
