"
You're cut from the same cloth as your brother

selfish to the core
!"

He felt her accusation as keenly as a knife to the chest. Leaning his race close to hers, he whispered, "Rest assured I am nothing like my brother. I would have no problem consummating my marriage. More specifically, I would have no problem bedding you."

If possible, her eyes grew even bigger, green saucers in her pale face. She went as still as stone beneath him. "How do you know Edmund never consummated our marriage?"

He ignored the question, but instead ran a finger along her jaw and down the column of her throat. Her breathing hitched, and he stopped at the throbbing pulse on the side of her neck. "It's an easy enough matter to prove. Maybe that's what you need, hmm? A man in your bed to rob you of your rebelliousness? You could use a little taming."

Acknowledgments

Many thanks to those who read and critiqued this book in its various and dubious stages: Tera, Leslie, Ane, and Christy. Tera, your savvy (or second sight?) helped get me here; Leslie, you made sure my scenes had the requisite "sizzle"—this book wouldn't be what it is without the "cabinettes." And thank you to Ane, my first writing friend, your enthusiasm feeds my soul. Thank you, Car-lye, for being so mule-headed. You never stopped nagging me to write and sell a book—even when I begged you to. Thank you to my mother-in-law, Rosanne, for countless hours of baby-sitting. To my fellow writers at West Houston Romance Writers of America, thank you for your support and encouragement. Not so long ago, I walked through vu vüi Sophie Jordan your doors a stranger, having no idea I would find a haven among you. And thank you to my agent, Maura Kye-Casella, who called at precisely the right time in my life and said all the things I most needed to hear, and to my editor, May Chen, for believing in this book.
