He cleared his throat, unable to speak otherwise. “What’s the genre?”
“IR romance.” She nipped his throat lightly, right above his Adam’s apple.
“What’s that?” he asked, his voice strained, this time not with grief or doubts or guilt, but with desire.
A little nuzzle against his earlobe, and he was sorely tempted to throw her down on the floor and take her right then and there, but he caught himself. She deserved better. He’d treat with her respect, unveil her bit by bit, shower every inch of her dark skin with kisses and adoration.
“It’s when the hero and heroine are difference races, like white and black … or black and Latino.” She stared into his eyes, asking him a silent question.
Are we for real? Is this for real? Is there an us?
Whatever it was, Victor knew the answer. And though they’d only known each a short time in that loft, he felt confident in it, in them.
He trailed his hands down to cup her ass, allowing himself a squeeze. The air whooshed out of him, and his brain was growing almost too muddled to function. “They have a damn label for that? Why does that need a label? It’s just two people who love each other, right? Like … like … like us,” he whispered against her lips. “Just like us.”
She shuddered against him, and he tightened his hold on her to prevent her from sliding to the floor.
“Yes, just like us, Victor Guzman. Let’s give this a chance and see what happens.”
“You have converted me, Felicity James.” He smiled down at her.
A look of confusion flashed over her face. “What?”
“I now believe in happily-ever-afters. I have mine, right here in my arms.”
He crushed her mouth with his then, no more holding back, as a feeling so divine it could only be love threatened to burst in his chest. With one heft, her legs left the ground to twine around his waist, and he turned to carry her to his bed, his mouth never leaving hers, not until he realized, halfway between the coffee table and his bedroom door, that he’d forgotten to say the most important thing of all.
He pulled away from her just long enough to look at her, to marvel at her swollen lips, her sparkling eyes, the feel of her body against his. She gasped and looked bewildered, but only for a second.
“This is going to be a very long story. We may never finish it, Fel —”
The last of his sentence was swallowed in a scorching kiss.
