But he did offer her some comfort. As he licked and sucked at her gorgeous breasts, he slid his hand down between her thighs and cupped her.

Hot. Damp. Trembling.

She was so ready for him.

Between her slick folds, he dipped a finger, his cock jerking in response to the twitch of her channel. She wouldn’t last much longer. She hovered on the edge. With a few strokes of his fingers, he could probably make her come, but this time, the selfless lover was gone.

The greedy man, the needy soldier, wanted to feel her climax around his cock. Bracing himself on both arms, he poised himself over her.

Her beautiful eyes opened, and the most wondrous smile curved her lips as she breathed, “Gene.”

She looped her arms around his neck and drew him down for a kiss as he thrust into her. He caught her keening cry with his mouth, felt the tremble of her sex as it clung tight to his shaft.

He stroked in and out of her welcoming flesh, and she responded with a wanton abandonment that awed him. Enthralled him.

I do this to her. I bring her this joy.

Just like she brought joy to him. Faster he pumped. In and out, the tension coiling, the ecstasy building until it culminated in one shining moment.

Bliss.

Heaven.

Love.

Home.

Home at last, in the arms of a woman who loved him.

Epilogue

“Someone is going to die,” Gene declared. He would do it himself, with his bare hands. Slowly. Torturously.

Vicky stuck her head around the bathroom doorjamb to ask, “Who? And why?”

“Someone who thinks they’re fucking funny.” Not. As to the why, he held the reason aloft.

Pushing her glasses into place, his Pima perused the offending item. Then she had the gall to snicker. “Is that a superhero outfit?”

“Yes,” he replied through gritted teeth. It had arrived in an unmarked box on the front step, addressed to him.

At first, he’d feared a bomb, and after ensuring Vicky was tucked safely away where a blast wouldn’t reach her, he’d tossed a few rocks at the package. When it didn’t explode, he then placed his ear on it, listening for any ticking sounds. He’d smelled it too.

When nothing suspicious happened, he carefully took his knife to the tape holding it shut. Lifting the lid, he encountered a layer of tissue paper under which lay the atrocity.

He now wagged it like a flag in the air. Black leather pants with a big white G on the ass. Leather straps to crisscross his chest, again with the Giant G emblem on the front. And to top it off, a fucking spiked collar with, you guessed it, another G.

Someone with a warped sense of humor and too much time on his hands was asking for a maiming.

“Are you going to try it on?”

Surely his incredulous expression answered that dumb question.

Vicky giggled. “Oh come on, it’s not that bad.”

He held it aloft again. “Not that bad? It’s a fucking fetish outfit on superhero crack.”

“I think it’s thoughtful.”

“How do you figure that? I’m being mocked.”

“I would have said commended for your heroic side.”

“I’m not a hero,” he growled. Except where she was concerned. For his Pima, he’d do anything. As for anyone else, they could kiss his ass—an ass without a giant G.

Okay, so he lied a little. He wouldn’t just help his Pima. He might give a hand to his friends, no one else, and even then, only if he got to hit something—or scored free beer.

“You’re my hero,” she proclaimed before disappearing back in the bathroom to do who knew what. She shouldn’t have bothered. Gene loved her as she was. Dressed in fuzzy pajamas with polar bears wearing red scarves. In long johns splayed across his snowmobile in the woods. Naked with her hair spilling over her shoulders and wearing those sexy glasses of hers.

Mmm. Hungry. Need. Her. Now.

Why is she taking so long?
“What are you doing?”

From the bathroom, she didn’t answer his question but instead said, “I, for one, would like to see you in the outfit.”

“Like fuck.”

“Not even if I was dressed as your sexy sidekick?” Vicky emerged from the bathroom, and Gene could only stare. He might have drooled a bit too.

He didn’t dare blink, too afraid the sexy vision would disappear.
She is so damned beautiful.
White blouse tied off under her ribs, see-through to show off a black lace bra. A tight black mini skirt. High heels. Hair atop her head in a messy bun and, of course, sporting those hot dark-rimmed glasses. She looked every inch the naughty librarian until she turned around and showed him her butt. Across the skirt was another emblem,
G’s
.

Mine. Oh yes. All mine.

And he was hers. A hero in her eyes, a villain in the eyes of others. Not that he cared. The only opinion that truly mattered was strutting toward him with a come-hither smile and a sexual confidence that excited him.

Who knew love would see his Pima blossom? Who knew the threat of danger would bring out the warrior in her?

How did I ever get so lucky to have the most wonderful woman in the world fall in love with me?

He counted his blessings every day, just like he thanked her every day, not just by making love to her luscious body. For her, he’d settled in to Kodiak Point. He accepted a role as head surveillance dude. He implemented as many warning systems as he could to protect the town—and his Pima. They bought a house. They became a part of the clan. A polar bear and his human.

A man and his woman.

For her and her alone, he dropped his plans for vengeance. A polar bear, and a man, laid bare in the face of her love, and accepted.

In spite of having escaped his prison a while ago, only now did he finally feel free. And happy.

*

‘Twas the eve of the solstice and all through the town

Not a creature was stirring, not even to frown.

The shotguns were lined by the doorways with care,

Packed with silver shot, evil shifters beware.

The wild animals were tucked all snug in their dens

While visions of the hunt danced in their heads.

The alpha and his mate, all snug in their cave,

Had just adjourned but didn’t plan to behave.

When out of the woods there arose such a clatter

The shifters all sprang to see what was the matter.

Out on the ridge, muzzle held high to the stars

Was a single wolf, howling warning from afar.

Stars twinkled, illuminating the ground below,

And dispelled the shadows that crept in real low.

With a roar of challenge, and a split of their skin,

The clan shifters arose to engage attacking kin.

A mighty battle was fought, not without casualty,

But a surprising hero arose out of the calamity.

A ghost, a savior, a bear of pure white,

Came roaring from his den to help them smite.

And when the attackers were rebuffed,

And sent on their way,

The victors all cheered,

With an ululating hooray.

As for the wolf,

Who’d given them fair warning,

He came across a prize,

And thought he was lucky.

But as he was ambushed and taken,

Not without a valiant fight,

He couldn’t help but wonder

If he was in a dire plight.

Because the one who captured

Was not what she seemed,

And sometimes the true story

Remains to be seen.

To the woman who’d led to his ignoble capture,

Brody, the wolf, couldn’t help but mutter.

“You may think you have me now,

but only for the moment,

In the end I shall escape

And cause you sensual torment.”
