“Home, I suppose.” Billy Salter turned his face up to the rain, eyes wide open.
“Are you okay?” Hasim asked, troubled.
“Just allowing the rain to wash away my sins,” said Billy.
“And do you think that might help?”
“Not with the load I have to carry, but let’s get moving, I’ve had enough of this place.”
As they roared away, Sara said, “Does he mean it?”
“For now he does.” Roper shrugged. “But he’ll be back.”
“How can we be certain of that?” she asked.
“Because he has nowhere else to go,” Dillon told her. “So let’s get out of here before you ask me if that also applies to us.”
