“I’m sorry. I’m Evelyn Thomas. I once treated Tory.”

“Treated Tory,” Bianca repeated as she looked from the Doctor over to her husband. “I’m his wife, Bianca and what did you actually treat him for?”

Tory quickly spoke up. “Uh… Hey baby, it was nothing serious.” He said, cutting his eyes at the good doctor with a smile that kind of told her that he’d not revealed everything in his past to his new wife.

She jumped right in to back him. “Yeah, it was nothing serious,” the doctor said. “He had a case of pneumonia, right?”

“Yeah,” Tory agreed. “I just had to stay in the hospital for a few days and she treated me for it.”

Bianca nodded her head, clearly not believing a word that either of them said. “So, how long ago was this?”

“About a year ago,” Tory said.

“I see,” Bianca responded.

“Well, I work at this hospital now and,” she said looking down at her watch. “I’m on a lunch break so I should be going.”

“Okay,” Tory responded. He was definitely ready for this conversation to be over with. “We need to be going as well.” Bianca just stood there checking out the pretty doctor. “Babe, your sister,” he said to remind her.

“Oh yeah,” Bianca said. “Well, it was nice to meet you and I’m glad that you took care of my husband back then or no telling if we’d be standing here together now.”

Doctor Thomas smiled. “Right,” she said with a pleasant smile. “It was nice meeting you Bianca and good to see you, Tory.”

“Likewise,” Tory said as Doctor Thomas walked off. “Let’s go check on Lauren.”

“Okay,” Bianca said, following her husband. He reached back for her hand as she grabbed it to walk beside him. Thoughts about the good ol’ doctor remained lodged in her head. Something wasn’t right about that encounter. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but either they’d messed around in the past or she’d treated him for something more than just pneumonia. Whatever it was, she was going to make sure that she found out. Hopefully, Tory wasn’t lying to her. Never in a million years, would she think that he’d be keeping secrets since he was always so upfront about everything.

I hope this nigga ain’t got no kids by this woman or her sister or something.
She thought.
The way he looked at her wasn’t normal and the way she spoke to him wasn’t normal, either. Something is going on with them because a doctor with the title Oncologist on her white jacket shouldn’t be treating no man with pneumonia. I’ll definitely be checking that out when we leave here.

Across town, ShaKita found herself in the parking lot at the police station. Seeing that Coco had showed up to Rocky’s house and did a little damage of her own had her feeling some type of way. She stared out of the window unsure if she should get out, but Rocky pressed her.

“Look baby,” he said. I know that you don’t wanna go in there, but you have, too. First you have to file a police report anyway, because your car has been damaged and keyed.”

“I know, but if I hadn’t lied then she wouldn’t have done that.”

“The crazy woman stuck a butcher knife in my door which means that she followed us to the crib and knows where I live. That ain’t cool. You have gotta do something about that.” Rocky said.

“But, must I take out a restraining order? I could just file the police report and keep it moving.”

“You could and honestly that’s up to you. Maybe she’s just a woman scorned and now she feels better. I don’t know, but what I do know is that she’s certainly unpredictable in her feelings right about now. That can’t be good.”

“I guess you’re right,” ShaKita said. As she stepped out of the car she could see a policeman escorting someone out of the backseat of his patrol car. She did a double take upon seeing Rich in handcuffs, looking fucked up. He had two black eyes, a broken nose, a very swollen lip and he was walking with a serious limp. “Daaaamn,” she said, causing Rocky to look in that direction as well.

“Do you know him?”

“Yeah, that’s the bastard that jumped on my sister.”

“Damn, if she beat his ass like that then I don’t won’t no battles with you or your sisters,” he teased to lighten the situation.

“Her baby daddy did that,” ShaKita informed him. “He should’ve murdered his ass.”

“Well, he should’ve if he put his hands on her. I’ve never been one that believed in a man hitting a woman. There is nothing right about it. I don’t care how they look at it. I’m sure that I would’ve fucked his ass up to had I been there.”

“Well, good thing you weren’t there. I wouldn’t want you in jail for his stupid ass.”

Rich looked over at ShaKita and dropped his head as they carried his scummy ass in the back. He couldn’t even face her, knowing that he was dead wrong in what he’d done.

“So, what are you going to do about Coco?”

“I’m going to file a police report and take out a restraining order on her. You’re right, she is definitely crazy.” As they walked up to the counter so that ShaKita could handle her business, she looked back at Rocky. “Thank you for talking me into doing this.”

“May I help you?” The woman behind the counter asked.

“Yes, my name is ShaKita Ware and I’d like to file a police report and take out a restraining order on someone as well.”

“Okay,” the woman said. She handed ShaKita the paperwork and then faced her computer. “What’s your name again?”

“My name is ShaKita Ware and the person I’d like to take out a restraining order on is named LaCourtney Stealth.”

The woman typed in the information and then looked over at ShaKita with an unsure look on her face. “Ma’am, we have a warrant out for your arrest.”

ShaKita and Rocky frowned. “A warrant?” They said in unison.

“What kind of warrant is out for me?” ShaKita curiously pondered.

“You have battery and assault charges pressed against you by LaCourtney Stealth.”

“Are you kidding me right now?” She asked.

“No ma’am,” she said immediately calling over an officer. “We’re going to have to place you under arrest.”

ShaKita looked over at Rocky in pure disbelief. “This can’t be happening.”

“Don’t worry baby. You’ll be out in no time.” He said as the cop walked from behind the counter and placed handcuffs on ShaKita’s wrists.

“Call my parents,” she said as they escorted her to the back of the jail. “The number is in my cell phone,” she called out.

Back at the hospital, the family was sitting around passing time in the waiting area. The doctor’s had confirmed that Lauren would be able to go home and that she was going to be alright. They were happy to receive that news. However, they all knew that this would definitely affect Lauren in some kind of way, whether good or bad.

Kerry looked over at her mom. She seemed worried, even though Lauren was fine. “You okay, mom?”

“Yeah, I’m good.” She said. “I just wish that y’all girls would be more careful when getting in these relationships. If a man isn’t good to you then it’s okay to walk away.”

“I feel you, mom.” Bianca said. “Glad, I met Tory. He’s good to me and our kids. Plus, we don’t keep any secrets from each other, do we babe?”

Tory looked at her and smiled. He could see Mr. Ware watching him out of the corner of his eye. He cleared his throat. “Right baby,” he responded.

Bianca smiled as she looked around the room at her family. Tory was starting to make her have doubts, but until proven guilty she would go along with what he’d said.

“What is Justin doing here?” Kerry asked with a frown on her face as she saw him standing out in the hallway looking lost. “Did somebody call him? I know he didn’t bring the kids up here.”

“I didn’t call him,” Bianca said. “Plus, I don’t see the kids.”

Kerry looked over at her mother. “Don’t look at me. You know I didn’t call him.” Mrs. Ware said.

“Me either,” Mr. Ware chimed in.

“Well, I’ll be back. Let me see what he wants.” She said, getting up from her seat and walking out in the hallway.

“Hey Justin,” she spoke catching him off guard as he turned to face her. “Who told you that we were here?”

“Huh?” Justin said. “Nobody told me that you were here. Why are you here?”

“Oh you didn’t know?”

Justin raised an eyebrow like he was confused. “Know what?”

This kind of took Kerry by surprise, because she’d figured he was there because of Lauren. “Oh well, never mind. Where are the kids? They better not be left alone with that lil heifa you call a girlfriend.”

“The kids are with my mom still.” Justin responded.

“Oh okay.”

“How was last night?” He asked, remembering that she’d gone out to the strip club. She still had on her make-up and it still looked flawless as she stood there with her arms crossed.

“Last night was good, crazy good I guess you can say.” She smiled a little thinking that it was certainly a wild night.

“Oh okay.” He said not even wanting to get any more details about it. “Well, I realized that I’m on the wrong floor so I’ll be leaving. Uh, is everything good? I mean, why are you here?”

“Lauren felt ill and came in to see a doctor.” She lied not really wanting to share her sister’s personal business. Plus, Justin wasn’t her husband anymore. It wasn’t his business to know what happened.

“Tell her that I hope she feels better,” he said then attempted to walk off.

“Hey,” Kerry called out to stop him. “Why are you here?” She curiously questioned.

“Uh, Shannon had a miscarriage last night.” He responded. The look in his eyes seemed saddened by having to reveal to her that he’d lost a child.

Kerry stood speechless for a second then she cleared her throat. “I’m very sorry to hear that.” She said.

“Yeah me too,” he said. “I’ll drop the kids off later today.” And with that, he walked off without looking back. Kerry felt bad for him. She knew how much he loved his kids and to hear that he’d lost one definitely made her feel bad for him.

She stepped back into the waiting room. “Lauren ain’t ready yet?”

“Nope not yet,” Bianca responded. “Why was Justin here? I seen him walk off and leave.”

“Shannon had a miscarriage last night,” Kerry revealed. Mr. Ware looked over at his wife. She never even looked up to acknowledge what she’d heard. In the back of her mind she was just hoping that Kerry would still stay far away from him as possible, unless it had something to do with the kids.

Mr. Ware’s cell phone rang as he answered it. “Hello,” he said. Next thing they knew he was shaking his head. “Okay, I’ll be down there in about twenty minutes.” He then ended the call.

“Who was that?” Mrs. Ware questioned.

“That was Rocky, ShaKita’s new love interest. Apparently, she’s been locked up.” Everyone looked with total shock. The day was just starting, yet so much had already happened. “I hope that I don’t get any more bad news today. I don’t know how much more I can take.” Mr. Ware said then he looked over at his wife. “You sit here and make sure Lauren gets home and I’ll go bail out our youngest.”

“Okay,” Mrs. Ware said as he leaned down and softly kissed her lips.

“Hold up, Dad. I’m gonna follow you.” Kerry said. “I’ll talk with y’all later.” She quickly made her exit, not wanting to be questioned about Justin’s business. She didn’t want to talk about it anyway.”

Chapter 14

The next day, Janay and Finn were lying in the bed cuddling. They had just finished a steamy sex session that had both of them nearly out of breath. They hadn’t enjoyed each other like that in a while.

Finn smiled, kissing the back of her head. “I see that medicine that the doctor gave you is working already.”

“I do feel better. However, I don’t know if I can thank the medicine.” She said with thoughts going through her mind about her prior morning’s conversation with Heather. She turned to face her husband.

“What’s up, babe? Are you okay?” He asked.

Janay was hesitant at first, but then she decided to speak on it. “I saw Heather yesterday morning in the grocery store.” She said.

“Oh you did?”

“Yeah and I apologized about the dinner party.”

“I think that was big of you.” He responded. “And you sure that you don’t want to thank the medicine?”

She gently hit him on the arm. “Are you kidding me?”

“You know I’m just playing,” he teased. “What did she say?”

“She said that it was cool and she also apologized for always being up in your face.”

Finn smiled. “I think that was big of her, too. I just wish that you’d trust me more to know that I’m not going to cheat on you, not even with Heather.”

“I trust you,” she said. “I just don’t trust her and now I don’t trust your auntie, either.”

“You don’t trust Aunt Lily?” he asked with a concerned look on his face. “What did she have to do with you and Heather talking?”

“Aunt Lily hasn’t been quite upfront with me or you.” She informed him.

Finn took in an irritated deep breath then let it out. “Okay, please explain this because I’m lost right now.”

“Remember that night at the party?”

“Yeah,” he answered.

“Well, when Heather showed up I thought it was because your mom had invited her. However, while speaking with your ex girlfriend, she informed me that it was Aunt Lily that invited her and not your mom.”

“Okaaaay, so what does that have to do with anything? It’s no secret that Aunt Lily and mom are super close to Heather. It wouldn’t surprise me who invited her. Why is that so shocking to you?”

“It’s shocking to me, because your Aunt Lily acted like she didn’t even know that Heather would be there. So why would she lie about something so small if she too loves Heather the way that you claim?”

“I don’t know. Maybe she wasn’t upfront because of the way that you showed off in front of everybody. She probably was scared to say something, unsure of your reaction.”

Janay lay quiet for a moment as thoughts flooded her mind. Then she finally said something else. “Um, I don’t know. This whole thing has me baffled.”

“Just relax baby,” Finn said.

“Whatever happened to your cousin, the one that died?” She questioned throwing Finn completely off.

“What does that have to do with anything?”
