Nicholas Jayzon has broken through the chains of his destitute past by stealing, swindling and charming his way to owning his city. In the city where most everyone owes him a favor, Nick’s power is growing. The police can’t touch him and his enemies are becoming powerless to take him down. He is intelligent, cunning and above all … alluring. No woman can resist him. But, one woman is determined to bring him down and her reasons are personal. Kayla Donovan has spent years preparing for the time she faces him again and plans on denying Nick as much of her as she can. She knows him, and she knows what gets his attention and what he can’t resist. Kayla is the only one that can possibly look into his devilish eyes and not be besieged by them or controlled by a single whisper of his desire. If she is able to manage her fears, then there is no reason for her not to succeed, and if she can’t … well, she has nothing to lose. She has no one left to care about her or to miss her if she fails in her mission. She has no one, not since her beloved sister fell for Nick, became controlled by him, and eventually died because of him.

Driven by hate, Kayla is determined to find a way into Nick’s favor, find a way to make him trust her so she can find the heart of the devil and tear it apart before he captures hers.

The Devil’s Eyes is a Dark, Intense, Romance novel. Not your typical story of two perfect people coming together after overcoming a life challenge. No, Nick and Kayla are two imperfect people, trying to overcome the brutal realities of their worlds and finding life as criminals comes naturally to them both.

Prologue

Sean

The decision seemed so innocent in the beginning, exciting even. How could I have ever known what was going to happen? How could I have ever known that someone could be so evil, so determined to destroy lives. I chose to ignore the advice of my brother and instead trusted - believed in friendship, believed in a woman I once loved. Now I am paying the consequences and living in hell and I have brought my family right along with me.

It all started when the rat entered our lives, and as should be expected, the snake followed.

Chapter 1

Ava

Our wedding is a few months after Sean’s proposal in a secret place that only we know about - the island that brought us together again. We have our closest friends, family, and all of our island family with us when we say our vows to each other. I in a dream dress my husband made sure was available to me, because as he said,
he
did not want to outdo me in his custom suit.
Standing by a small waterfall with flowers draping every place imaginable, petals under our feet and our daughter, Lillah, watching from the arms of her uncle. Lillah is dressed in a sweet ivory dress and new shoes that she makes sure everyone sees, especially her Daddy. After sealing our vows with a kiss, we are off to our reception where there is lots of food and dancing and even more laughter and smiles. The only sadness is at the end when we have to leave Lillah but it is after all - our honeymoon.

Sean planned our honeymoon all by himself, a two-week trip on a yacht that will take us wherever we want to go. I had no clue until he walked me down to the dock. Smiling his enticing smile, Sean picks me up and carries me across the ramp while I hold onto a bottle of champagne from our reception. Setting me down gently at the rail of the boat, I feel the breeze begin to blow through my hair, the stars begin to shine and the rushing sounds of water roar around us as our boat carries us away from our island. “I love you and I hope you enjoy this trip as much I dreamed you would.” he said, kissing me once again.

“Well then, my perfect husband, if you dreamed of something so perfect then what do you have planned for us now?” I smile, tugging at his suit jacket and biting my bottom lip.

“Aren’t you hungry? You didn’t get a chance to eat at all at the reception and I hear the chef has made us something special. All I have to do is call them to bring it up for us.” He twirls me into his arms as if I am being absurd to even consider sex at this moment.

“Well if the food is supposed to be that good, let’s by all means eat first.” I sigh. “My mistake, I thought that sex might be better. It has been two weeks since we have seen each other.”

He laughs, leaning in close, “I promise you the food is spectacular but not nearly as spectacular as I am going to make you feel when I get this dress off you.” His sensuous words rush through my body, weakening me all over. Smiling knowingly, Sean holds me tighter and keeps me from collapsing. “Do you want me to show you now?” he whispers against the edge of my earlobe.

Giving him my new, confident look, “I just hope you can live up to your words, Mr. Grant.”

“Well then, let me show you the way beautiful.” Taking my hand, he leads me to a door and opens it to a room that immediately wraps you in posh comfort. With his heated lips on my neck, his warm body nestled in behind me, and his fingers trailing up and down my bare back I suddenly have an old feeling come over me, that feeling of our first time together. “I did tell you I planned every detail myself. I took extra time with this room.” I am not sure if I am nervous or anxious, which is not much different from the first time. “Take your dress off.”

I turn, and seeing his superior smile I take a deliberate step back from him, “You first.” I demand.

“But I want to see what you’re wearing under this incredible dress.”

“Give me a reason to show you, Mr. Grant. And make sure you entertain me while you do it.” I grab a glass of the already poured champagne, and detour his hand away from his own glass. “Come on actor boy, show me what you got, and …
make it good
.” Pushing on his chest and sending him out into my sight, I watch him shamelessly. Staring at me briefly, he begins nodding in acceptance. Working slowly, he slides off his jacket and shows his muscles which are highlighted by his fitted shirt.
