Mera:
A captain of the Y’Zirite who serves on the staff of General Yazmeera.

Micah:
Lynnae’s murdered son.

Moon Sparrow:
An ancient mechanical bird used to bear messages for the Office for the Preservation of the Light in the Churning Wastes and where conventional messenger birds are ineffective or ill advised.

Moon Wizard’s Ladder:
See Seaway.

Moon Wizard’s Staff:
A relic tied to the Firsthome Temple and hidden by Amal Y’Zir and Frederico for the son of Whym as a part of Frederico’s Bargain.

Moon Wizard’s Tower:
The visible structure on the moon’s surface that was taken over by the first Y’Zir. Properly called the Firsthome Temple.

Myr Li Tam:
Vlad Li Tam’s 46th daughter.

Myra:
A servant of the Ninefold Forest Houses.

Named Lands:
The New World hidden behind the Keeper’s Wall and deeded originally to the Marshfolk and the Gypsies by Xhum Y’Zir. Once the Androfrancine survivors arrived and settled, it became known as the Named Lands.

Neb/Nebios ben Hebda/Nebios Whym:
The Homeseeker of Marshfolk prophecy. Thought originally to be the son of Hebda Garl, Neb is actually the offspring of the Younger God Whym. Neb was left by the Office for the Preservation of the Light to witness the destruction of Windwir, which awakened the latent gift within him.

Night of Purging:
The night during which the remaining followers of Scientism and their allies, led by P’Andro Whym, overthrew and killed the seven Wizard King sons of Xhum Y’Zir in retaliation for the bloody suppression of the Scientism Movement.

Nightstone:
Also called a dreamstone—an artifact of the Younger Gods which allows access to the aether and limited telepathic connection to others. It is believed to have been used to affect “group” dreaming in therapeutic, educational and recreation pursuits.

Ninefold Forest Houses:
The nine forest manors that form the seats of government for the Ninefold Forest. The Gypsy King moves between the houses using a steward in each to administer in his absence between visits.

Niva:
A captain in the Y’Zirite army that serves on general Yazmeera’s staff.

Notes and Specifications:
The great catalog of the notes and schematics of the science and secrets of the First World as compiled by Rufello. Deemed a forbidden text by the Moon Wizard and his descendants, only scattered pages and fragments remain.

O

Obidiah:
Originally designated Mechoservitor Number Seven by Charles in his first generation of metal men, Obidiah was attached secretly to the Office for the Preservation of the Light by Introspect and assigned to the Sanctorum Lux project. Exposure to the metal dream led to the new, self-assigned designation.

Office of Franci Practice:
The Androfrancine office for behaviorism, analyzing, understanding and manipulating the pathways of thought and behavior.

Office for the Preservation of the Light:
The secret office tasked by Pope Introspect with establishing Sanctorum Lux, and the preservation of the greater light, and assisting in the fulfillment of the Marsher Dream and the metal dream identified by the mechoservitors of Sanctorum Lux. Headed by Hebda Garl in the post-Windwir years.

The One Hundred Tales of Felip Carnelyin:
A legend from the era of the czars, it tells the tale of a fabulous voyage to the moon, and how a daughter of the Moon Wizard fell in love and was spirited away from her home.

Orius:
General and Commander of the Gray Guard before Windwir fell, charged with making sure the light survived. He retreated with a remnant of the Gray Guard and other Androfrancines into the Beneath Places to run intelligence and counter-invasion operations in addition to his work protecting the Office for the Preservation of the Light.

P

P’Andro Whym:
The first offspring of the Younger God Whym to appear after the Downunder War. Whym’s birthright was never validated in the Beneath Places; instead he was caught up in the growing Scientism movement. After the Wizard King Xhum Y’Zir and his seven sons destroyed the movement, Whym organized the Night of Purging, during which the Wizard King’s seven sons were killed. His letters with Franci B’Yot would eventually result in the melding of the Whymer brotherhood and the Franci Order into the Androfrancine Order, which shepherded the survivors in the Churning Wastes for nearly five hundred years before settling the lands behind the Keeper’s Gate.

Paltos:
An Emerald Coast city-state and theistic society worshiping some of the more benevolent Younger Gods. One of the oft-avoided cities of the outer Emerald Coast, eschewed by the secular Androfrancines.

Panta Root:
A Lasthome root that enhances strength, senses, speed, stamina when chewed.

Papal Summer Palace:
The location of the Order’s first attempt at settlement and allegedly a military stronghold to assist in containing the Marsher’s “madness.” It eventually became a retreat palace for the papal office and was destroyed in the Marsher uprising following the fall of Windwir.

Papal Unction:
An irrevocable papal decree of the highest priority that must be adhered to.

Paramo:
The third forest house of the Gypsy Kings. It has the rural charm of a logging village and is renowned for the wood products and workings that decorate the great houses of the Named Lands.

Parmona:
An Entrolusian city-state.

The People:
The name the Younger and Elder Gods call themselves, a species that originated on Firsthome.

Petronus:
Also known as the Hidden Pope and referred to as the Last Son of P’Andro Whym. The youngest man ever selected Pope of the Androfrancine Order, he started in the Office of Francine Practice, and developed an eye and a reputation for always being able to perceive the thoughts of others in their faces. He faked his own death on the 19th of Argen in the 1966th year of settlement to go into a life of obscurity as a fisherman and returned to the papacy after the Fall of Windwir to preside over the trial of Sethbert and the dismantling of the Order.

Petros:
An indentured man in the gospels of P’Andro Whym who served beyond the terms of his agreement. Also, the alias Petronus lived under after faking his death.

Phaerum:
An Entrolusian city-state.

Philemus:
The Second Captain of Rudolfo’s Gypsy Scouts, valued for his willingness to question, and for his loyalty. Named Over-sheriff of the Forest in the wake of Rudolfo being named the Chancellor of the Named Lands.

Physicians of Penitent Torture:
A Gypsy holdover from the era of the Wizard Kings. The cuttings now a redemptive ritual heavily influenced by the aberrant teachings of T’Erys Whym and Y’Zirite beliefs around the power of shed blood.

Plague Spiders:
One of the Seven Cacophonic deaths, these large spiders multiply rapidly and carry lethal fever. They are used by the Y’Zirites and Machtvolk to destroy Pylos.

Port Charis:
Old World city, birthplace of P’Andro Whym and location of Sanctorum Lux.

Prairie Sea:
The ocean of grasslands that separate the nine massive forests that form the Ninefold Forest Houses from one another and the rest of the Named Lands.

Pylos:
A nation in the Named Lands, located between Turam and the United City-States of the Entrolusian Delta.

Q

Queen’s War:
An ancient board game still played in the Named Lands, very similar to chess.

R

Rachyle’s Bridge:
The bridge that crosses the second river in the delta, connecting the United City-States of the Entrolusian Delta to Pylos.

Rachyle’s Rest:
The city growing up in the shadow of the new library at the site of Rudolfo’s Seventh Forest Manor.

Rae Li Tam:
The seventh and eldest surviving daughter of Vlad Li Tam. She is the wife of Baryk, a free city warpriest and the finest apothecary House Li Tam has ever produced. She disguised herself as a man and studied at the Franci school for three years.

Rafe Merrique:
A pirate employed by the Androfrancine Order to run secret missions around the horn into the Wastes. Also was hired by Petronus to take him secretly to the Emerald Coast after his faked death. Rudolfo and Gregoric sailed with Merrique in their youth.

Raj Y’Zir:
The Moon Wizard, who returned to Lasthome from the moon to revenge himself on the empire of Frederico, the Weeping Czar, who he blamed for the loss of both of his daughters, Ameera and Amal Y’Zir.

Rajblood River:
The Gypsy name for the Delta’s First River.

Regent of House Y’Zir:
Eliz Xhum, Blood Regent of House Y’Zir.

Remus:
Renard’s father. Also a guide in the Waste frequently hired by the Androfrancines.

Ren Li Tam:
Vlad Li Tam’s 48th son, a skilled engineer.

Resolute:
The falsely anointed Bishop Oriv, cousin of Sethbert. Resolute’s suicide was faked by Grymlis and Lysias acting on behalf of Sethbert’s nephew, House Li Tam and the remnants of the Androfrancine Order.

Restoration Scientifica Progrom:
The uprising led by P’Andro Whym against the Wizard Kings which resulted in the deaths of Xhum Y’Zir’s sons.

Reyjik:
A neighbor of Marta’s family who glimpsed Isaak in the woods.

Reynard:
Son of Remus, a guide in the Waste.

Ria/Winteria the Elder:
Mardic’s eldest daughter.

Rites of Kin-Clave:
The rituals and social rules which bind the Named Lands. Its origins lie in the years of Settlement following the Age of Laughing Madness.

River Woman
: The herbalist/healer for the Seventh Forest House.

Rothmir:
An Entrolusian city-state governor.

Royce:
One of the two captains singled out by Lysias among the Ninefold Forest’s new standing army to accompany him to the Beneath Places.

Ru Li Tam:
Thirteenth son of Vlad Li Tam’s twentieth son. He died upon the cutting table at Ria’s command.

Rudoheim:
One of the Ninefold Forest Houses.

Rudolfo (Modern):
The Gypsy King, Lord of the Ninefold Forest Houses and general of the wandering army. A competent swordsman and brilliant strategist with the reputation of a womanizing fop, but can also be ruthless and always knows the right path to take. Rudolfo’s life was shaped by the manipulations of House Li Tam largely following a secret Y’Zirite agenda.

Rudolfo (Historic):
A desert thief with a band of Gypsy bandits in service to the Wizard Kings. Before the devastation of the Old World, Rudolfo led his bandits and their families west to the New World, granted access to the lands beyond the Keeper’s Gate. He was also responsible for secretly smuggling Ahm Y’Zir away from the Old World.

Rufello:
The Czarist scientist who spent his life studying the fragments and remains of the Age of the Younger Gods to better understand the scientific mysteries of the first world. Rufello designed The Ship that Sailed the Moon, which was used in the first Czarist Lunar Expedition. Apocryphal tales refer also to a resurrected Rufello working with Frederico and Amal Y’Zir as part of Frederico’s Bargain.

Rufello’s Grave:
An Androfrancine supply cache in the Waste, just outside of what was once Ahm.

Rydlis:
Arch-scholar of the school at the Franci orphanage during Neb’s tenure.

Rylk:
A Gypsy Scout killed by Archbishop Oriv.

Sadryl:
An Entrolusian city-state.

Samael:
An Entrolusian city-state.

Sanctorum Lux:
Bastardization of Sanctuary of Light in a tongue from the earliest days of the Younger Gods.

Sasha:
One of the soldiers of Esarov’s Secessionist Union.

Scars of House Y’Zir:
The symbol cut over the heart of a servant of House Y’Zir and a key sacrament in Y’Zirite faith administered to all practitioners that are twelve or older.

Scattered Isles:
The various isles that are spread across the Emerald Sea southwest of the Named Lands.

Scientism Movement
: During the era of P’Andro Whym, the Scientism Movement was eradicated as a threat by the House Y’Zir. It converted P’Andro Whym in his youth, and heavily influenced Franci B’Yot as well.

Seamus:
The eldest of Winteria the younger’s Council of Twelve.

Seaway, The:
A path from the moon to Lasthome opened when the Firsthome Temple was reopened. In myth, it is referred to as The Moon Wizard’s Ladder, but is actually an artifact of the Younger Gods.

Second River:
The centermost of the three delta rivers.

Serendipitous Wind:
Flagship of House Li Tam’s Iron Armada.

Sethbert:
The Overseer of the Entrolusian Delta city-states. He was manipulated by Y’Zirite influences, persuaded by paranoia and bad intelligence to destroy the Androfrancince city of Windwir. Ultimately tried and killed by Pope Petronus’s own hand, invalidating his papacy.

Seven Cacophonic Deaths:
The last great blood magick spell of the Wizard King Xhum Y’Zir, which legend claims he labored over for seven years to avenge the murder of his sons.

Shadrus (see House of):
The leader of the Machtvolk during the time that Raj Y’Zir and his silver army left the moon and ended the Age of the Czars.

Shadrus’s Dream of Unsealing:
Also known as the Final Dream among the Marshers.
