Firsthome:
The world where the People first arose and set out for the stars.

Firsthome Temple:
The name the Younger Gods attached to the structure on the moon that in current times is known as the Moon Wizard’s Tower.

Firsthome Temple Sowing Song:
“The Homeseeker’s Song,” also “Canticle of the Fallen Moon in the Key of B Minor,” ascribed to Frederico, but far older.

First Precept of the Gospels of P’Andro Whym:
“Change is the path life takes.”

First River:
The easternmost of the three delta rivers. Called the Raj-blood among the Gypsies.

First Settler’s Congress:
The origins of the Charter of Unity and the Entrolusian city-states alliance.

Firstfall Axe:
A symbol of the Marsher monarchy.

Firstfall Steel:
Very silver and gives back a perfect reflection allowing even magicked scouts to be seen. Rumored to have been brought from the moon by Raj Y’Zir and his armies.

Fontayne:
A charismatic mystic who attempted a coup against Lord Jakob which resulted in the deaths of Jakob and Marielle, and Rudolfo’s early ascent to leadership. Later discovered to be the seventh son of Vlad Li Tam.

Franci B’Yot:
Posthumous founder of the Franci Order and contemporary of P’Andro Whym whose correspondence influenced Whym. Eventually, the two movements merged and formed the Androfrancine Order.

Franci Orphanage
: The Androfrancine orphanage where the children of the supposedly celibate priests are raised and trained in the ways of Franci B’Yot.

Francines:
Slang for Androfrancines.

Frederico:
Last of the Weeping Czars, who fell in love with Amal Y’Zir, the youngest daughter of the Moon Wizard, via a silver crescent that let him communicate with her on the moon.

Frederico’s Bargain:
An agreement made in the Deepest Dark, between Frederico, the Last Weeping Czar, and some great power in the Beneath Places, concerning the survival of the light and the People of Lasthome.

Freehold of the Emerald Coast:
The loose confederation of independent city-states on the inner and outer Emerald Coasts.

Friendslip:
One of the Ninefold Forest Houses.

G

Gaerrik:
One of Winteria the Youngers Council of Twelve.

Galdus:
Marta’s father.

Gardens of Coronation and Consecration:
The garden in Windwir where the new Pope is presented and named.

Garvis the Birder:
The birder that served the seventh forest manor (at Rachyle’s Rest) when Rudolfo was a boy.

Garyt ben Urlin:
A grandson of Seamus set to guard the Book of Dreaming Kings by Ria, but who remains loyal to Winters.

Gath:
A professor of human studies at the Franci school who taught Petronus the ways to read human intent in facial expression.

Geoffrus:
A bandit leader in the Churning Waste.

Gervais:
A playwright who wrote
4 Plays of the Early Settlement
.

Geryt:
One of Sethbert’s servants.

Ghosting Crests:
The wide and dangerous sea east of the horn, supposedly haunted by ghosts and other creatures capable of sinking vessels.

Glimmerglam:
The Gypsy King’s first forest house and the location of the peach orchards.

Glossolalia:
Escatic utterance brought about primarily by the Homeseeker’s dream.

Gray Guard:
The military arm of the Androfrancine Order. They guard the light “clothed in the ashes of yesterday’s world” as dictated by P’Andro Whym.

Great Deicide:
A Machtvolk reference to P’Andro Whym.

Great Mother:
The Y’Zirite title for Jin Li Tam, the mother of the Child of Promise.

Gregoric:
Rudolfo’s closest friend and first captain. He died as part of Vlad Li Tam’s shaping of Rudolfo.

Grun:
A gypsy scout who followed Jin Li Tam into the Machtvolk lands.

Grymlis:
A captain of the Gray Guard and friend of Petronus.

Great Library:
The vast storehouse of knowledge that lay at the heart of Windwir and the Androfrancine Order. The result of 2,000 years of careful excavation and recovery from the ashes of the Old World.

Grun El:
A legendary place famed for its cave castles.

Gulf of Shylar:
Forcefully annexed by the Delta city-states.

Gustav:
A Gray Guard scout attached to the Office for the Preservation of the Light.

H

Hanok:
A Gray Guard attached to the Turam Bookhouse.

Hanric ben Tornas:
Selected by Mardic to be Winter’s Shadow, until she was old enough to rule in her own right. Killed during the slaughter Rudolfo’s Firstborn Feast.

Harston Letter:
A historical fragment of the Seven Cacophonic Deaths.

Headmaster Tobel:
Administrator of the Franci orphanage.

Hebda Garl:
An Androfrancine and arch-behaviorist of the secret Office for the Preservation of the Light. He is presumed to be Neb’s father, and was believed to have perished in the fall of Windwir.

High Mass of the Falling Moon:
Y’Zirite celebration of the coming of Raj Y’Zir.

Holga:
The Bay Woman (in Caldus Bay) who prepares and dispenses earth magicks.

Homeseeker’s Song or Sowing Song:
The People’s name for what is commonly called “Canticle of the Fallen Moon.” The melody is coded with a dream that targets mechoservitors and contains instructions for the re-creation of Rufello’s Ship that Sailed the Moon and for gathering the necessary components to command the Firsthome Temple once it is unsealed.

Hounds of Shadrus:
Bred by Shadrus for House Y’Zir, used for hunting Younger Gods.

House Li Tam:
A ship building and banking house known for its neutrality. A house without kin-clave, barring a secret relationship with the Androfrancine Order, this lack of kin-clave allowed it to broker information to the highest bidder. Secretly commissioned by T’Erys Whym to carry out his first assertion in the New World and shape the lives and history of the Named Lands intentionally.

House of Shadrus (Children of Shadows):
An older name for the Marshfolk from their servitude to House Y’Zir upon the moon.

Hymnal of the Wandering Army:
Three hundred and thirteen songs, which have never been written down, that describe the Wandering Army’s strategies and tactics.

Hyran:
Mayor of Caldus Bay and Petronus’s closest boyhood friend.

I

Ignatio:
Erlund’s spy master and Y’Zirite agent, the illegitimate son of a Franci arch-scholar, killed by Lysias for his role in the death of Lynnae’s child.

Ilyna:
The wife of Kember, steward of Rudolfo’s Seventh Forest Manor.

Imperial Archeology Society:
An arm of the Y’Zirite empire.

Imperial Cutting Garden:
An outdoor Blood Temple at the palace in Ahm’s Glory.

Intellect VIII:
An Androfrancine Pope centuries in the past who first gifted House Li Tam with the reconstructed golden bird.

Introspect III:
The last Pope of the Androfrancine Order prior to the destruction of Windwir. Warned of the coming end, he allowed the destruction of Windwir that he might save the light as instructed by the Younger God Whym.

Ire Li Tam:
The 32nd daughter of Vlad Li Tam and one of the Knives planted by her grandfather among the Blood Guard of the Crimson Empress.

Iron Armada:
A fleet of iron ships built by House Li Tam according to specifications provided by the Androfrancine Order, to better allow them to protect the Order’s wealth.

Isaak:
Mechoservitor Number Three named by Rudolfo after being found in the ruins of Windwir. Also, Rudolfo’s elder brother, poisoned by Vlad Li Tam as a part of Rudolfo’s “shaping.”

J

Jakob (the Elder):
Rudolfo’s father, Lord of the Ninefold Forest Houses and a secret Y’Zirite who negotiated a treaty with the Empire of Y’Zir that favored his family.

Jakob (the younger):
The son of Rudolfo and Jin Li Tam, the Child of Promise according to the Y’Zirite gospels and prophecies.

Jamael and the Kin-Wolves:
A bedtime story read to Winters by her tutor.

Jarvis
: A former Androfrancine engineer who designed a bomb targeting Rudolfo, his family and the Forest Library.

Jarryd:
A former Gray Guard dedicated to protecting Petronus.

Jaryk:
A first lieutenant of the Gyspy Scouts.

Jeryg:
A neighbor of Marta’s whose wandering lamb she stole for Isaak.

Jin Li Tam:
The 42nd daughter of Vlad Li Tam, the former consort of Sethbert, and wife of Rudolfo. She is the Great Mother of Y’Zirite scripture and the mother of Jakob, the Child of Promise.

K

Kallaberries:
the dried berries of the Kalla plant, they have a calming and refreshing effect on the user. Can be smoked in dried form or ingested as an augmented, powdered mix called kallacaine.

Keeper’s Creche:
The scattered spaces of the world created by the Keeper to preserve human life on Lasthome during its various apocalypses and cataclysms.

Keeper’s Gate:
The massive locking gate in the midst of the Keeper’s Wall that sets the Named Lands apart from the Churning Waste.

Keeper’s Hatch:
The offspring of the Keeper that are born during specific times to serve the People.

Keeper’s Wall:
The wall of mountains that protect the Named Lands on the East.

Keeper of the Book:
The librarian and cataloger of the Marsh King’s dreams and glossolalia.

Kember:
Steward of the Rudolfo’s Seventh Forest Manor. He and his wife are secret Y’Zirites converted by Lord Jakob.

Kendrick’s Town:
A town south of the ruins of Windir.

Kin-dragons:
Legendary war beasts of the Younger Gods.

Kin-healing:
The Y’Zirite rite of cleansing those who owe a blood debt and reuniting them with House Y’Zir and its faith.

Kin-wolves:
Twice the size of timber wolves, intelligent and violent. Creation of the Wizard Kings.

Kin-ravens:
Bred by the Wizard Kings as spies and messengers, larger and brighter than an ordinary raven. Thought extinct for more than 2,000 years until very recently.

Kinshark:
Rafe Merrique’s ship, which is cloaked by magicks that render it invisible.

Kinsman’s Rest:
A Marsher village.

Knives of Tam:
The secret children of the Tam line set aside by Ben Li Tam for the time when they would be needed in the Y’Zir lands.

L

Landlish:
One of the languages of the Old World that eventually became the common language of the New World.

Lasthome:
The world of the Named Lands.

Lasthome League:
A measure of distance, approximately 1.04 miles.

The Letters of Sister Alouise:
A collection of letters by an early follower of Ahm Y’Zir’s faith.

Library of Elder Days:
The great storehouse of knowledge sealed within the Firsthome Temple, containing millions of years of the People’s history and lore.

Lower Landlish:
A variation of Landlish spoken on the Scattered Isles.

Lynnae:
Jakob’s Entrolusian wet-nurse and member of Gypsy King’s household. Also, General Lysias’ daughter.

Lysias:
An Entrolusian general who fought against Rudolfo in the War for Windwir and later sought asylum in the Ninefold Forest, where his daughter resided. Lysias was tasked with creating the Forest’s first standing army.

M

Machtvolk:
“The people of power” once attached to the Firsthome Temple who later became the servants of House Y’Zir.

Magisters of the Knowledge of the Faithful:
A Y’Zirite order dedicated to identifying, collecting, safeguarding and utilizing the magicks and mechanicals dug from the ruins and found in the Beneath Places.

Mal Li Tam:
The first son of Vlad Li Tam’s first son, and secret high priest of the Crimson Empress. Working for his grandfather, Mal ultimately betrayed Vlad Li Tam and brought about the death of most of his family. Mal was later killed by Vlad Li Tam in the basement of the Moon Wizard’s Ladder.

Mardic:
Marsh King and father of both Winteria the Younger and Winteria the Elder.

Markday:
The day that a follower of the Y’Zirite faith takes the mark of House Y’Zir.

Marshfolk:
The House of Shadrus, also known as the Machtvolk, former servants of the Wizard Kings. Seen as still affected by the Age of Laughing Madness, Marshers embrace superstition and mysticism and are not a part of the kin-clave of the Named Lands.

Marielle:
Rudolfo’s mother, killed in her sleep during Fontaine’s uprising.

Marta (Martyna):
A young girl who becomes the traveling companion to Isaak after his transformation. Her mother sold produce in Windwir and died in its destruction.

Mayhap Falls:
A waterfall near the caves where Isaak hid after his battle without the Watcher.

Meirov:
The Queen of Pylos who, enraged at her son’s murder, eventually leads the conspiracy to kill Rudolfo and his family by bombing the Forest library. She is killed when Ria unleashes plague spiders upon the nation of Pylos, killing every man, woman and child.
