Chapter One

“I don’t have anything to wear.” Beth flopped back on her bed, her strawberry blonde curls bouncing across the white comforter.

She stared across the room into the overflowing hangers of the guest room closet. She’d only been able to bring a third of her wardrobe, more than enough for the black pants and shirts she wore waiting tables at her sister’s pub, the Frosty Pitcher. And the sweats she sported in the house when not working. But a date, or whatever this was, stretched her selection beyond its limits.

Not that she was complaining. She was lucky to have a sister who would offer her a job and a home after she’d been kicked out of her own. Losing her job and her fiancé in one day was a lot for anyone to deal with, but being homeless, too, would have been too much.

“Stop being such a drama queen,” Kelly called from the doorway, walking across the room to the stuffed closet. She shifted the hangers apart, looking deep inside. “You’ve got lots of great stuff in here.”

Beth shook her head along the mattress, throwing her hands behind her. “Nothing good enough for a fancy dinner.”

Kelly shook her head, pulling out a white slip dress from the pile and turning it around to show Beth. “What about this? With your eyes and hair, this would look great.”

Beth leaned up on her elbows, glancing at the dress, and shook her head. “I’ll look like a rhino.” And it was one of Paul’s favorites. But she wasn’t going to mention that. Paul’s name was as good as a swear around Kelly. And Beth loved her overprotective older sister for it.

Kelly rolled her eyes, pushing aside two other hangers to wedge the dress back in the closet. “If you don’t want to go tonight, you don’t have to.”

Beth sighed, sitting up to look over at her sister. She folded her feet underneath her, curling her toes into the comforter. “No, you’re right. I need to get over what happened with Paul. I need to move on. I’m just nervous.”

Kelly fingered the knot of blonde hair at her nape, not a hair out of place. Perfect. Just like Kelly always was. Kelly always did everything right. She never would have opened her mouth and gotten herself fired. And she certainly wouldn’t have dated a dickhead like Paul who did not see anything wrong with taking advantage of people, even his fiancée. Another in a long line of jerks she’d dated since high school.

Stepping toward her, Kelly placed a comforting hand on Beth’s shoulder. Eyes the same sea-green as her own stared back at her. “There’s no reason to be nervous. The Fantasies Fulfilled team does extensive background checks before they let anyone on their site.” She smiled. “I never would have bought you the subscription if I wasn’t sure it would be great for you.” She waggled her eyebrows at her, and Beth chuckled.

That was what had her shaking. She wasn’t meeting one man at the luxurious Snowedin Lodge, but two. When filling out the paperwork subscription to Fantasies Fulfilled services, her generous birthday gift from Kelly, Beth decided if she were going to have a fantasy night, she might as well live out the fantasy she’d been dreaming about for ten years, to be with two men, who happened to also enjoy each other.

Since high school, Beth had fantasized about two men together. Making out in the backseat of her boyfriend’s car, she often imagined him with other men. They’d kiss and touch each other, then kiss and touch her. When she’d expressed the fantasy to Paul, he’d looked at her like she was crazy, yet another sign Paul wasn’t the right guy.

“Just go to the hotel and enjoy your birthday present.”

Beth nodded. She intended to enjoy her present. More than Kelly even knew. This was her one shot to fulfill a lifelong fantasy, and she couldn’t let it pass. If she could only get the butterflies in her stomach to stop polkaing long enough to get out the door.

Kelly walked back to the closet and pulled out a dress from the clutter, fighting with the strap from a purple sweater to release it. Turning around, she displayed the dress she’d chosen across her own body.

The emerald color shimmered from the small golden threads woven through the fabric. The slit up the side would show off enough of her legs to pique some interest. The bodice tightened from the waist up to curve into a heart-shape neckline, dipping to show all the cleavage she had to offer, ending with two small spaghetti straps.

“I think you should wear this one.” Kelly spread the dress out on the bed beside Beth. “It’ll look beautiful against your pale skin and bring out the green in your eyes.”

Beth looked down at the dress on the bed. It really was beautiful. She’d almost forgotten she owned it. She’d bought the gown for the yearly awards banquet at her old company, the one she hadn’t attended, having been fired three weeks before the elaborate affair occurred.

She stared questioningly back at her sister. “Kel, it’s so low-cut.”

Kelly wrapped her hand around Beth’s cheek, meeting her eyes. “Honey, you’re going to show him everything eventually. There’s no reason to hide the goods up front.”

She walked back to the closet and stooped down to pull out a pair of gold three-inch heels. She placed them next to the bed below the dress, positioning them as if an invisible person wore the outfit. “It’ll be great. You’ll see.”

Beth nodded, nipping on her bottom lip as her sister walked to the bedroom door. It had to be great. So little had been going well for her lately. She needed to escape, for one night at least, all the bad choices and mistakes she’d made. Tomorrow she’d go back to serving overpriced microbrews and tapas to preppy skiers that traveled to town for the famous Snowedin Mountains.

Just inside the door, Kelly paused, staring down at the papers lying out on her dresser. The first draft of the agenda and invitation list she and Lanie had put together for their upcoming high school reunion. “Looks like you guys are making some progress on the reunion plans.”

Beth nodded. That had been one of the most surprising and exciting things about coming home. She never thought she’d love planning her high school reunion, but it had turned out to be a lot of fun determining where and what to do at the event, and it was great to get to spend time with her high school friends again and remember the person she was before Paul. “Only three more months. Lanie and I are going to start looking for caterers next week. And Noah’s sister already promised that Sugar Plums can provide the desserts for us.”

“Just make sure you put down Frosty Pitcher as liquor provider.” Kelly smiled, but the brightness didn’t entirely reach her eyes. Beth wondered what was concerning Kelly, but knew better than to ask. Kelly would share when she was ready, and never before.
