He hadn’t gotten his hopes up that they’d be successful, especially not after only two months trying. But holy shit! They’d done it.

Lifting her up, he spun her around before realizing that might not be good for the baby. As he set her down, the sounds of the water trickling in their yard gave him another thought. He released her and looked down at the waterfall.

“We may need to put a fence around this to keep the baby out.”

Pamela chuckled. “I think we’re good for a few years before we’ll let him or her run around out here unsupervised.”

Their oasis suddenly seemed fraught with dangers. Surviving fatherhood might be one of the toughest things he’s ever done.

Pamela, who’d had more time to get used to the idea, continued to lay out the plan. “And if we take our trip to Norway in September, I should be able to travel by then.”

He grinned, thinking she’d picked up where he’d left off in trying to plan every aspect of life. It would seem that having a baby wasn’t going to slow Pamela down or make her change her routine. Kristoffer would be more cautious and see how they adjusted before making plans for an international trip like that. September wasn’t the best time to be traipsing around Norway anyway.

But that she was already thinking about establishing strong roots for their baby in the place where half of Kristoffer’s ancestors had called home sounded so right to him.

“We can dip baby Larson into the fjords of the motherland while there.”

“Do you have any idea how cold the fjords are that time of year?”

She laughed. “Okay, maybe just the toes—enough for the baby to let out his or her first roar, just like his daddy’s.”
