He glanced over his shoulder, his gaze connecting with his friend. "You're alone, then?" he asked, looking back at her.

She nodded.

"I'm Ian." He gestured to the other guy then held out his hand. "Since it's going to be a long ride, and you're by yourself, why don't you hang with us?"

Karrie took his hand, noticing the skilful way he wrapped his fingers around her palm. A zing of electricity shot through her body. After a long second, she introduced herself and tried to pull away, but he held tight. "That guy over there, that's Ramon." Ian pulled her away from the railing. "Let's go over and say hi."

She sure wasn't used to hot guys she'd just met taking her hand, but she let him pull her along, leading her between the rows of bolted-down benches. They passed an elderly couple of bundled tightly in windbreakers, a family with two wiggly toddlers, a woman sitting alone, and a cluster of teenagers.

Trying to look casual, Karrie glanced at the people, but it was pointless. Her gaze kept going back to Ian's friend.

Strands of his glossy black hair had come loosely and he swung his arm up, shoving the hair from his face. He was watching them move towards him, a light smile lifting his mouth. As she moved closer, Karrie spotted a small row of skulls running up his throat and disappearing into his hairline.

That wasn't the kind of tattoo a person would forget. Now she was sure she knew him.

Ian let go of her but stayed right by her side.

Ramon leant back on the rail, slid one hand into the back pocket of his jeans, and held out his other. "Hey, cool to meet you."

"I'm Karrie," she said, taking his hand. Another shock of electricity shot up her arm and that dark hall fantasy came back. This time she could hear one of her favourite songs,

'Sky of Heaven,' shaking the walls.

"You here by yourself?" he asked, looking past her shoulder.

Karrie finally took her hand back. "Sort of. I was supposed to meet some friends, but I—I—"
Oh, what the hell
. There was no hiding from her own stupidity. "I guess I got on the wrong ferry."

Ian wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "Now she gets to hang out with us."

"Sounds good." Ramon pushed away from the railing and took a step towards the ladder. "There's a snack bar on the first floor, want to get something to eat? Some coffee?"

Karrie looked from one to the other. "Sure, sounds fun."

"Good. I'm buying." With that, Ian took her hand again and led her to the ladder. Ramon followed behind.

Forty minutes later, the three of them sat at a booth, its table covered with empty cinnamon roll wrappers and half-full coffee cups. With their constant questions, Ian and Ramon pulled the two key points of Karrie's recent life story: job as a physical therapist that she loved, ex-boyfriend she hated.

They also pulled out some basic details: mom and dad still married, two older sisters, both with kids. Undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky. Plans to go back for 14

graduate school. Apartment in Covington. Church on Sundays.

"I sound so totally boring. Please stop asking me questions." She crossed her arms and leant back with a mock scowl. "You guys tell me something."

"You haven't told us much about Marc." Ramon, who'd been asking most of the questions, reached out and ran his fingertips across her knuckles. Liquid heat trickled up her shoulder then melted through her. "What did he do for you?"

"You mean what did he do
to
me?"

"No." He moved his hands away, but the warmth inside her kept flowing. "
For
you. Before. When things were good. Hot.

You know what I mean."

Karrie shifted against the hard plastic seat. "Do you mean—when we—"

"Had sex," Ramon finished for her.

Ian nodded.

They stared at her, waiting. "Right. Yeah. Of course." She turned her attention to tucking the half-empty coffee cups into the cardboard carrier.

"He did something you liked, at least for a while, or you wouldn't have stayed with him." Ramon leant forward. "What was it?"

She slid the carrier to the side of the table and started poking it with her finger. "Isn't that a little personal?"

"Sure. The best questions are." Ramon took her hand, turned it over, and ran his fingers across the inside of her wrist. "Ian and I are strangers. You can tell us what you 15

wouldn't tell anyone. Tell us what you wouldn't even tell Amy and Rochelle."

The wind had picked up again, so instead of a churning roll the ferry had started to move along with sharp hops. Karrie braced herself by putting her hands on the edge of the table, still scattered with the remains of their breakfast. Neither Ramon nor Ian seemed bothered by the rocking of the boat—

they were both staring at her, eyes lit with lusty curiosity.

Looking back at them, both so open and uncomplicated, Karrie felt stupid because she had nothing to tell them.

Nothing exciting, anyway.

The boat took another fierce hop, and her whole body lifted off the seat. When she settled back down, she felt the pressure of two hands, one on each thigh. Ramon and Ian were both leaning forward and so close together, she couldn't tell whose hands they were. And they were both still staring at her. Waiting.

Not that she minded their staring. Or having their complete attention. And the strong hands on her bare thighs were a huge turn-on. Why not enjoy the moment? "Things were fun at first, you know," she said, relaxing.

Ramon tipped his head. "Okay, tell us about the first time."

She laughed. "The front seat of my car. In a thunder storm. We were in the mall parking lot, but nobody could see us because the rain was coming down so hard."

The hands squeezed, pulled her forward and pushed her legs apart. "You like to do it in public?"

Karrie wondered if she should pull back, even though she didn't want to. The hands were holding tight to her thighs, 16

and it felt good. Why not stay put? "No. It wasn't about being in public. It just seemed romantic, you know, with wind making the car shake and the rain sliding across the windows and the thunder making the whole thing seem so sexy and wild."

Ramon lifted an eyebrow and grinned. "Was it?"

She frowned and watched one of the crew members slip into a narrow closet across from their table. "Now that I think about it, not really. He doesn't come very fast, so it took too long and—"

Ian scowled. "He didn't come fast? In the front seat, in a rain storm?"

Ram shook his dark head. "What the hell is wrong with the guy?"

She'd wondered the same thing, but thought she was just being a bitch. "You don't think I was expecting too much?"

"If I was fucking you in the front seat of my car, I'd come in about three minutes."

Ramon slammed against Ian, and the hands on her thighs lifted. "Three minutes? What would take so long?"

"I'd want to make it last." Ian pretended to look hurt. "I could do it faster than that if I wanted to."

Ramon shook his head. "Sure you could."

Karrie laughed. "You guys are crazy."

Ian ignored his friend's jibe, speaking to Karrie instead. "I don't know how to break it to you, but that guy of yours was a loser."

"That's pretty judgmental, isn't it? What makes you think you can tell just from what I told you?"

"We're guys," Ian replied, lifting one shoulder. "We know these things."

"Yeah. Look—" Ramon stood up and thrust his hips forward. A solid bulge filled the front of his jeans. "I'm hard just thinking about doing you."

"Me too." Ian made a show of shifting on the bench, readjusting his position. "I'm just not a show off like him."

"I'm not a show off," Ramon said, looking down at his crotch.

"Yeah. Right." Ian scooted to the end of the bench and stood up. "I got somewhere to go."

Ramon grabbed his arm. "You are not going to jack off in the bathroom."

"Fuck off." Ian laughed then leant down, lowering his voice to a husky whisper. "You didn't see that girl in the pink T-shirt?"

Ramon shrugged then took a quick look around. Karrie didn't bother because she knew exactly who Ian was talking about. She'd stood next to the girl at the coffee counter. That pink T-shirt and butt-cheek short shorts she was wearing didn't leave anything to the imagination. Karrie pointed to the doorway. "She and her friend just went up the ladder."

"I know," Ian said.

"You don't think she'll notice your dick is sticking out?"

Ramon asked, pointing at the obvious bulge.

"Hey, if it gets me noticed I don't give a shit."

Ramon laughed as he kicked his friend away from the table. "Go on, before your heart seizes up from the constant frustration."

Ian dodged the crewmember coming out of the closet then turned back to grin over his shoulder. "Wish me luck." Then he rushed off.

"Does he do that often?" Karrie asked.

"Chase down unsuspecting girls while he has a massive hard-on?" Ramon replied, dropping back down.

"Something like that."

"Yeah. He does."

She glanced at his crotch. "What about you?"

His only response was a laugh, but he added, "I'm glad he's gone. I can concentrate on you." He leant forward again.

"Finish what you were saying."

"I wasn't saying anything."

"Yeah. You were telling me about the lame guy you were with who couldn't even get it up."

It was Karrie's turn to laugh. "I didn't say that."

"You might as well have. I can do it in less than two minutes."

"What about the girl?" Karrie asked, now completely relaxed. "That might be too quick for her."

"I make sure she likes it," he said.

Karrie twisted her lips. "I don't know if I believe you."

Ramon tipped his head towards the narrow closet door.

"Go in there with me, and I'll prove it."

"You serious?" she asked, both shocked and thrilled.

"As serious as this—" He pointed to his cock, still hard enough to fill out the front of his jeans. "I dare you."

The door was probably locked anyway. But still, it was tempting. And so was he. "That's all it's supposed to take? A dare?"

He grinned as he reached down, cupping the solid bulge under his zipper. "Sure. Why not?"

Sure, she was a scattered, last-minute type, but even she could usually think of a hundred reasons
why not
. But right then her mind was blank.

"How long were you with him?" Ramon asked, the teasing tone in his voice replaced with a softer one.

"Eight months," she replied, running her finger across her wrist where she used to wear the bracelet he'd given her for their sixth-month anniversary.

"That's not so long."

She lifted her finger away. "No, not really. It just ended ugly."

"Keep the good stuff with you, toss the rest."

"You make it sound so easy. You have a lot of practice tossing girls aside."

He winced. "Not really."

The lie was obvious, and the pained expression on his face was such a contrast to the happy-go-lucky personality he'd been putting out that she laughed. He was definitely a lot more complicated than he let on.

"What's funny?"

"You aren't a good liar."

"No." The glimmer faded from his eyes, but he smiled anyway. "I'm not. Ask me a question, test me out."

Karrie reached out and laid her palm across his knuckles.

Sure, she could ask him if he thought she was hot, or fun, or whatever. But she'd had enough of the truth. "Nah." She shifted to the edge of the bench and shot a look at the door.

"I've got something else in mind?"

Chapter Two

* * * *

Before she had a chance to reconsider, Karrie leapt over, grabbed the handle and twisted. It came open easily. She backed into the tiny room, then lifted her T-shirt all the way up to her neck. Beneath her white bra, her nipples tightened into hard points, and reckless energy flowed through her.

Ramon shot forward, sliding through the narrow doorway as he reached for her breast with one of his long-fingered hands. They stumbled into the closet, his hand sliding under her bra. The boat took a hard hop, and the small door slammed shut. A tiny ray of light came from under the door.

Fuelled with unfamiliar excitement, Karrie reached for the waistband of his jeans, found the button and popped it open.

The zipper came down easily, and she shoved her hand in, quickly finding his rock solid shaft.

"When do we start timing?" she asked, curling her fingers around the hard, warm skin, thoroughly enjoying the wicked naughtiness of the act.

"If you keep doing that," he groaned and thrust forward,

"we won't even get a chance to start."

Karrie laughed, gliding her palm up and down. His penis got even harder, and the tip brushed against her lower abdomen. Liquid heat made her pussy slick, and she quickened the pace of her strokes, silently letting him know what she wanted.

He moaned and took a step back, making his penis fall from her hands. "I'm serious. You keep that up, and I won't get to prove anything."

Laughing, she reached for him again, but he grabbed her wrists and shoved her arms behind her, guiding her backwards through the darkness.

"Ouch." Something pointy poked her in the back then tumbled to the floor. She groped behind her, finding a row of cold metal. "There's shelves."
