ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I
WISH TO FIRST
thank my husband, John, who watched and supported me during the years I struggled to birth this book. I truly am married to a man of God.
I also want to acknowledge and express my gratefulness to my two daughters, Kristine and Kathy, who inspired me to trust God with all my heart during the difficult years in their lives. Thank you for bringing joy into my life and for your willingness to have confidence in my counsel.
A very special thank-you to all my friends who prayed and travailed for me and my family during the difficult times. There’s no doubt in my mind that God is very attentive to our prayers, and in His timing, He answers.
And last, but most importantly, I want to thank the Holy Spirit for being my Friend and constant Helper all the time!

S PARENTS, WE
have all had this moment: Your precious little one whom you love so much now stands in defiance. And then you hear those pouty little lips rebelliously let loose that dreadful word: “NO!” And so the battle begins—not a battle of wills, but one of setting boundaries and defining character. It’s a battle that will continue to adulthood.
It is no secret; being a parent is a tough job! How many times have I heard a parent say, “If I had it to do all over again, I would have done it better.” Or, “If I knew then what I know now, I would have done things differently.” But before you start beating yourself up, let me stop you. The fact of the matter is that none of us are perfect. You are going to make mistakes along the way, and you will probably, on more than one occasion, drop the ball. But it is not too late. You can be a godly role model in your children’s lives, and you can pour into your children the Word of God and equip them to make right choices regardless of their age or your past mistakes.
Sadly, many parents today didn’t have a godly role model when they were growing up, and they’re struggling with issues that stemmed from their childhood. Maybe your childhood was one of abuse, or your home was dysfunctional. Now you’re a parent, and you find yourself frustrated. Perhaps you’re not sure what a godly role model even looks like, or you might be dealing with a difficult child and feel powerless. Maybe you don’t want to make the same mistakes your parents made, but you find yourself repeating some of the same patterns.
The good news is you can become the parent that will help your children grow to be the godly men and women they are intended to be. It’s never too late to influence your children to love the Lord with all their heart or to teach them how to live a life that is full, abundant, and pleasing to God.
We’ve all heard the adage that knowledge is power, and in parenting, it is key—but only when you understand that the battle of parenting is not so much a battle but rather spiritual warfare. Dr. Delgado’s book is filled with information that will help you to be a strong spiritual role model and parent who knows how to fight for his or her children. What a great blessing to have a book that is filled with knowledge learned from real-life experiences. You don’t have to spend years of learning through your mistakes. Take the principles from this book and apply them, and you will find amazing strength and power that will make a difference in your children’s lives.
