Chapter 16: What the Dragon Wants the Dragon Gets!

Ly
took me to retrieve my robe first, showing me just how angry he was by roughly doing the few buttons that remained while his fingers burned. “So you are allergic to silver?” Interesting, I thought.

“Don’t think you’ll control me with silver. Just like this spell… I can undo it, but believe me… for the hope of your love I won’t go to drastic measures. Don’t push me Emma, you don’t wish for me to let the skeletons out.”

He was angry… he either used my name when he was out of control with rage or desire.

“You should know I won’t scare… I’ve had my own demons to fight, your skeletons will just seem like a walk through the park.”

I stepped away. “I can finish dressing, and you don’t need to be carrying me everywhere, I’m perfectly fine now.”

Before I realized, I was over his shoulders again and shortly after we were standing right before my brother’s cabin.

“I want you with me at all times, now that you’re better he will try to take you from me. And that fucking dress with all the yards of fabric, are useless to cover your attributes… the curves of your breasts and the way your nipples harden for me when I’m near. The sick fuck can’t keep his eyes off you.” He growled referring to my brother.

“You cannot mean…,” He interrupted my denial.

“Remember it is I who feeds you, do not make me regret it. They are still alive because I understand how you feel about family, but stay away from him.”

“Oh, you show your true-self, are you withholding food from me next… I have to say, this is a new means of torture for me.” I say sarcastically.

“No, I’m just saying it’s time you develop a conscious when it comes to your survival and not when you think yourself in love… foolishly thinking of protecting another.”

I was shocked by his outburst, momentarily stunned. Did he mean he could take care of himself or was he referring to Darius? Maybe it was both, who knew with the Lycan.

The double doors to the cabin opened wide. My sister was inside waiting for us to enter. “Do not let him near you.” He warned.

He strode in walking like he was king of the manor. I pushed off him, growling as my brother walked in front of me, blocking me from Ly’s view. I was fisting my robe together because if I let go the top would burst open. He was about to lunge at my brother when I shouted, “Do not dare harm him, stay back!”

He appeared crazed fighting the hold my words had, falling to his knees on the floor from what looked like agonizing pain. My brother watched seeming to enjoy his pain, so I shouted, “Stop fighting it, you’re doing unnecessary harm to yourself.”

He watched me, watched my brother… eyes filling with hate. I turned to my sister, “Please do something,” I begged her.

“Tell him to be calm, he will have to listen.” she suggested.

“Calm yourself!” I said stepping beyond my brother, closer to Luke.

He did as I asked once I was standing next to him. I turned and faced my sister.

“Dear sister, please provide him with some new clothes.” She had turned away, but I wanted him covered. His nearness while being clothed in his shredded pants had its influence on me, and everyone except for my sister had a heightened sense of smell. My brother was watching me intently, just as Luke watched him.

“Of course Your Highness, and I will fix your robe for you.” She did and at the very same moment my robe was intact, he was wearing leather pants and a brown V-neck shirt. He was now standing with his thigh in front of me taking a stance against my brother.

“Brother what is your name?” I smiled, gently asking.

My brother’s eyes watched Luke a moment longer in warning, then turned down to me. “Sweet Emmaley, my name is Andres Emmerson Drake.” I stiffened at his words, he had no idea the effect those words would have on me, of who they reminded me of, but I chose this was not the time to tell him.

For the life of me, I couldn’t understand why Ly smiled at hearing him address me as such.

“Are there humans in this planet because I can’t feed from either one of you,” referring to my sister and him, and I was hoping human blood was less addictive because I was expecting the power in the blood of the breeds is what drew me, “and the Lycan has lost all control. I cannot trust him enough to drink from him without him trying to bite me.” My brother’s eyes flashed green, “You bit her and survived? I’ll kill you!”

He launched towards Ly.

In a flash, I was in front of my brother pushing him with my palms on his chest. “You will not hurt a hair on his head!” I said in a tone that permitted no argument.

Holding me tightly and gently shaking me, he looked down, searching he said, “You would choose him? Let me see your neck, Emma!” Taking my hair and throwing the heavy strands over my shoulder, his hand tipping my head away from him, he gazed at my skin while my eyes searched for Luke.

“Don’t say such things.” I whispered. “I just want both of you to stop trying to kill each other every time you’re in the same room, please. He cannot be the only source I can drink from. We become more dependent on the other, in all aspects… brother. I feel it every time I drink his blood. Do you not realize my dilemma?”

Almost in a trance, his eyes focused on my neck as he rubbed my vein, making sure it was intact.

“Let. Her. Go!” Luke yelled his body fighting for control.

I realized then my brother still held me, gently caressing my neck. “Forgive me, but I’ve been too long without holding you sister.” He held me closer to him in an embrace. I embraced him in return hearing the Lycan’s enraged growl behind me. I tried to smoothly break free, but my brother would not let go, “I must confess something to you, something which may cause you pain, but may be the answer you seek to cut the ties between you and the beast.” He said holding my head against his chest while staring over me at the Lycan.

I looked up at him, “What is it, you worry me brother.”

“I wish to discuss it without the Lycan present.” His hold was gentle, but firm.

Luke interrupted us, “I will not leave you with her. I see your intent and purpose with her. You want what is mine! You want her now, you don’t care you share the same blood. The witches poison was meant for
You
to take her, wasn’t it? That is the reason why you let me take her from you. Not because of the contract between us. You knew my men would be dead men in the hands of the witches. More importantly, I would be a dead man as well with all the anger she carries, and with the poison working its way through her blood she wouldn’t know it was you who claimed her! She would have thought it to be the other dragon, the one she cared for, who was taking her. She would have smelled dragon blood.”

I pushed away from Andres and turned slapping Luke, I needed to shut him up because he was destroying my only chance of having a family, so I drank him forcefully causing him pain, but my brother took a tight hold tearing me from Luke. I struggled against my brother while he struggled not to let me go because Luke needed to learn I would not tolerate his anger against my brother.

Luke fought against the weight of the spell, focusing his attention on the hands on my body.

I screamed at the Lycan, “Apologize, damn you. How dare you accuse him of this! It is Darius who is behind this, he promised me he would find me and would always come after me. It was his name I was yelling.”

“Tell him to tell you what it is he proposes. I KNOW WHAT I JUST SAW IN HIS EYES! And I am sorry, I’m so fucking sorry I brought you back to the people who would have you poisoned.”

I turned in my brother’s arms, “Brother, I’m sorry. He’s blind with jealousy. He does not know what he says.”

“Emmaley, there is a shred of truth in all of this.” He said with a heated look in his eyes.

I knocked his arms down and backed away, shocked he hadn’t outright denied it. It felt like the house was closing in on me.

At that moment, Luke attacked as my brother pushed me farther away and they both came clashing together. I soon scented their blood, and heard my brother’s bellow, “I’ll kill you for finding her… for wanting her, and making her want to protect you… need you as she now does.”

Chapter 17: I Have no Soul Left to Give

Ly
attacked him with his claws as he dug into him and they both landed next to me. Blood spurted on me, it was too much. I frantically tried to get it off me smearing it all over my face and arms instead. I threw my head back in frustration, digging my fingers into the wooden floor. In a rush, I stood trying to get out before my rage became too much, and I attacked them both. I heard bones shattering as I headed for the doors.

Then it became too quiet, free of their struggles the room had gone still, I turned seeing Allessa separated them with her mind control. I continued forward reaching the doors, needing desperately to catch my breath with clean air to breathe, their mixed blood saturated the air and me. I would find a spring and wash their blood away and Alessa would handle them well enough. It was all becoming more than I could take.

I had to prepare for what my brother would tell me, but first I needed to get the hunger under control.

She closed the front doors making it impossible for me to leave.

“Emmaley, don’t leave us. Your brother has searched relentlessly trying to save you from Eros.” I flinched at the name, disturbing something deeply rooted within me every time. “He’s been at war with the vampires… just returned from there witnessing so much death, all for you. It is why the covenant was reached and we became allies with the Lycans. They knew Eros was the key to finding you. They reached an agreement to unite and fight the vampires in search for you. Both sides have lost a great deal for you.”

Both Andres and Luke struggled against my sister’s hold while I listened to her. “Allessa, get rid of the blood now, or I’ll attack them both.”

She realized I was on the brink of losing control, shutting her eyes, she easily wiped the house clean.

I took deep labored breaths, waited a moment, and said, “Please, I need to know it was not my brother who would have me poisoned, raped.”

“No, of course not. Rest assured it was not him. Our father dedicated his life to searching for you when your mother took you from him, from us. We are centuries old, but on your fifth birthday my mother had a premonition. She said you were destined to reign over the three richest kingdoms. She also said that many oracles would have the same vision thus you would be running most of your young existence because every king from all kingdoms would soon have this knowledge and do anything to possess you for the power you would represent. She said their greed would end up destroying them because one look at you… and they would forfeit the gold- the power. They would lose everything just to be with you. But the truest treasure was not the kingdom themselves because true power would be bestowed on those who were able to conquer your blood. They would not know any defeat or death, they would become like you a true immortal. She also said that your love would belong to a Lycan King, it is the reason the witches tried to kill him,” she said pointing to Luke, “why Eros killed his brother King Logan… hoping to take his place by becoming a hybrid. After your constant denials, he thought he found the missing component- force fate and become your Lycan King.”

“It is also the reason Darius took you far away and kept you from us when father entrusted him to bring you back to us. He knew of father’s plans for you and decided to keep you for himself.”

“What was father’s plan?”

“It is what Andres just now tried to tell you.” She answered with sympathy in her voice.

Shocked I answered, “She took me away to protect me from all of this. She knew what my life would become, and she did her best to keep me safe, and I’ve hated her for it. She told me never to love, that it would cause me nothing but pain, ultimately destroying me. Now, I understand she was afraid for me, she knew they would fight for me relentlessly because the victor would have all the power he ever dreamed of.” I said devastated as I looked at Ly.

“You knew about this, you spoke to the witch and you killed her because she was going to warn me about you… you are after the same things everyone else wants.”

“No, that is not how it happened. She tried to get me out of the way by killing me. Everyone wants what will be mine, they want me dead.”

I didn’t know what to believe.

“Emma, our father loved your mother dearly, you don’t remember because you were so young, but for the seven years she was here and the five he had you he was the happiest he would ever be in his existence. Your mother was as in love with him, and it broke her heart to leave him, but she did it to keep you safe. She confessed as much to our mother when she asked for her aid to leave here with you.”

“She was lucky our father never found her, gods only know what he would have done to her.”

“My mother was our father’s mistress.” I said finally understanding.

“Yes, but he would of left my mother the queen… sent her away to a faraway land if it was your mother’s wish, but she was very reluctant. Your mother did not want to cause any more unnecessary heartbreak. She was good and caring to us all.” She answered.

“With the death of the Lycan King, it is over isn’t it?” I said hoping the prophecy could not take place, broken somehow.

“No, it is only the beginning because Luke is the king from my mother’s vision. She passed her vision to me, it is he. Everything is as it should be, the events have been set in motion, and I’m afraid Eros was right in seeking the Lycan King. In the vision we do not see his face, but he is shown in a circle created by fire mating with you, and then you kill three witches to save his life. I’m guessing this has happened. Your souls became bound in those precious moments. It is difficult to interpret, but I believe Eros only played his part in all of this because Luke has been searching for his brother’s killer. It is why he hunted down those witches and found you. Those witches were the witches that aided Eros in finding you through your dreams. They were the same witches who aided him when he first captured and tortured you. For the past two years Luke’s sole mission has been to find Eros and kill him. He knew nothing of the Circle of Fire Union vision. He defied his brother, and refused to believe the stories.”

“How did he defy his brother?” I asked as fear and foreboding crawled up my spine, tightening like a noose around my neck.

“While his brother did everything he could to find you, to protect you because he believed you were to be his queen as all have believed, Luke unbeknownst to his brother sought to find you, searched endlessly for you so when he did find you… he sought to kill you and end his brother’s fascination with you. He believed you to be in league with Eros, believed you to be inherently evil by helping Eros your lover steal the other two kingdoms. He has possession of a weapon said to end all immortals.”

My eyes focused on Luke. He was watching me with fierce yearning, perhaps knowing he had just lost me forever. “You followed me through the desert because you expected Eros to come looking for me. Did you enjoy thinking you were close to ending us both? Where is this weapon?”

“You have every right to hate me because I so unscrupulously misjudged you. I was shown your pain… your hate for Eros, and I finally understood my great mistake. I’ve paid for it more than anyone should have to. My brother is dead most likely because I wasn’t there when he needed me. Instead, I was doing everything I could to underhand his attempts to find you. I will never stop paying for the wrongs I’ve committed against you.”

“You think I would listen to anything now, after you’ve had all this time to come clean?” I exclaimed.

“You have been running from me the second I found you, claiming to kill me at every turn…”

Interrupting him, I asked about the only thing I now cared to know, “Where is the weapon?”

“He doesn’t know the answer. The witch he killed tried to save you and Eros, she made him forget, but every spell has a counter spell or a reversing spell- it is nature’s way of finding balance. He will simply have to find another witch, powerful enough. He may have been leading you to the witches in hopes of making them reverse the spell the witch cast to protect you.” My sister decided.

Unless my sister took it from him first, I now understood what my siblings were conspiring to get. They wanted the weapon, and I would help them find it. I decided to distract him from discovering the truth. “All you care about is your bloody vengeance; you don’t even care about the power, the kingdoms, immortality, or much less me. The witches told you I was coming, but you didn’t care- you wanted Eros instead. It is why you killed her.”

He howled from the pain my words caused. His eyes glowing molten silver… he pleaded, “No, you’re wrong. Let me explain. It was only that way before you stepped into that cave. I thought myself different from all these fools leaving everything and everyone behind… searching for you, including my brother. I too found myself crazed searching for you, in a frantic attempt to save my brother and I from a deadly obsession- I came up with a desperate plan. I knew our only fate would be death. I told my brother many times, but talk of you had spread and he too became too enthralled to listen.”

“Don’t listen to your sister’s lies… the witches were working with them not Eros. Remember they wanted you to mate with a dragon. You know me. You can feel what I’ve felt for you! I do not seek to betray you, enslave you as they did… I want to set us free.”

“By killing me, you have been the worst… your hate for me drove you to betray your own brother.” I struck him where I knew he would feel it most.

I said those words,
I promise to set us free
… I’d said them to Eros the last time I saw him.

“I initially thought the witch was trying to trick me, get me off track with the vision of Eros torturing you. But by the time she was done showing me your torture, everything changed, I was possessed with a hate for Eros I hadn’t thought possible, even after feeling it to large extent for the death of my brother. For you my hate towards him took on a new meaning.” He looked like he was suffering… but I no longer cared to believe him. He gave me a reason to hate him, and I tightly held on to it- hardening my heart against him.

“Watching you being tortured by him… I knew I had to find him and kill him because I was madly in love with you. Now I understood why I always sought to find you before my brother did.”

I couldn’t let myself believe him, believe this was the reason why he was always so patient… gentle with me- I understood what it was like to carry so much guilt… but I wouldn’t allow myself to feel compassion for him.

I walked over to him watching him fight my sister’s hold over him the closer I got. I whispered with hate dripping in every word. “Why would I listen to your lies, when you laughed jubilant at the thought of me on my back with Dracos between my thighs as Eros watched consumed with pain on our wedding night? Were those not your exact words to me? A Lycan in love would never be able to stand the sight of his lover with another. Did you know they would kill me rather than watch me choose another? You’ve never cared.”

“Release me now, and I’ll show you how wrong you are Beauty, I’ve painfully sacrificed, wanted, and loved you all of our days together.”

“You would say anything now. Just as they would do anything. What Eros did to me is nothing compared to what you planned. And Darius, well… let me just say he is no better, killed me repeatedly in order to keep me trapped, weak, mind scattered to the wind with desire for him. Darius didn’t need torture when he could just as easily kill me and have me wake up to blinding pleasure. So much more effective, wouldn’t you agree? I’ve never once felt for you what I felt for him.” He looked shocked, blinded by pain, and ready to kill me.

He was barely breathing as he watched me. This is how I wanted to see him, it reminded me… he always sought to kill me.

“But why would you care when I would soon bring you closer to what you’ve wanted most. But no harm done
Ly…
it’s quite all right because why would I want you Lycan when I’ve had… him?”

His eyes went solid black and his voice was hoarse, barely recognizable. “I will punish you for the lies you seek to destroy me with.”

What the hell,
I backed away seeing someone else entirely in there… it was impossible. I quickly looked at my brother and sister to see if they’d seen it, but they seemed unaware of what I’d seen.

I’m fucking insane… he haunts me.

He shouted, “You are frigid cold, heartless, and cheating yourself out of your own happiness- deceiving yourself, but I promise you by the time you realize this it will be too late.”

I hysterically laughed at him.

“You will cheat yourself out of happiness with a mate who will die a million times just to see you happy… in my bed.”

You
,” I continued to laugh trying to recover from what I thought I’d seen, but unable to- a tear slipping, “you said you’d show me a wild ride no strings attached, and you expect me to believe of your undying love… after hearing of your wishes to kill me! Save your breath, all you wish to do is take from Eros what he has already taken from you. What better way than to use and discard me once I’ve led him to you? I know your plot… and I don’t blame you. How many times did I try and do the same with you. I used you to find the witches, so I may break Eros’s bond and then, well you just became unwanted baggage.”
