A casual observer might
think Caleb hurt his partner as he took her, but Trisha sensed the
woman’s enjoyment. The she-panther keened and cried out for more,
and Caleb obliged. The scene inspired Trisha’s arousal, and when it
became too much to bear she slipped quietly away and down the beach
toward The Wall.

Running helped ease the
ache of want, she noticed as she picked up speed. As she bounded
closer to the spot where she’d agreed to meet her friend Marcy, she
thought of Caleb and hoped he found some happiness in his life—if
not with that shifter than somewhere.

Too bad Calla wasn’t one.
He seemed rather sweet on her, so she’d heard.

The bright neon and
booming bass of her favorite night spot, The Wall, came quickly
into view. Clashing scents and sounds toyed with her senses and she
braked to a quick halt about a hundred yards away, lest the
cacophony overwhelmed her sensitivities. Pausing to shake away some
sand, she looked around for signs of life within the perimeter and
immediately picked up on Marcy at their predetermined meeting
point.

Although unnecessary,
Marcy waved her down from the row of portable lavatories near the
boardwalk. Still in panther form, Trisha trotted over. She’d change
behind
the stalls, thank you.

Her best friend since
first grade, Marcy didn’t bat an eye when the panther paused before
her and shifted into a leggy, lithe redhead. “I almost gave up,”
Marcy said, holding out a small duffel. “I figured your mother got
her way tonight.”

Trisha blew out a
frustrated noise. “If I’m lucky, she’s forgotten all about me and
is focusing all of her wrath on Malcolm Weaver,” she said. “Asshole
didn’t even show up.”

What?” Marcy whistled.
“Some fiancé you have there.”

God, don’t call him that.
How’s my hair look?”

Fine. Shifting didn’t
ruin it.”

Good.” Trisha fished the
green tank shift out of the bag and slowly looped it over her head.
“Last thing I want tonight is to be reminded that I’m engaged to be
fucking married. At my age!” Even in podunk Bliss, New Jersey, her
peers entertained dreams that transcended the altar. Her own best
friend had a scholarship to Rutgers, while her future involved
nothing beyond obtaining an MRS degree and squeezing out baby
panthers.

Marcy held up her hands.
“Hey, don’t you worry,” she said, shaking her thick, dark dreds. “I
counted at least thirty fine looking gents that would probably be
more than happy to help you forget.”

Extracting a pair of green
flats, Trisha tossed the bag aside and followed Marcy up the sandy
stairs toward the boardwalk. She’d wait to wipe her feet before
putting on the shoes. “Let’s go. Tick tock.” With her free time
running low, Trisha refused to waste another second. If Malcolm
Weaver of the Weaver pack wanted to meet his mate, he’d have to
find her first.

Good luck doing that at
The Wall on a busy Friday night.
