CHAPTER THREE

I
woke up after an uneasy night sleep. I'm sure that I tossed and turned trying to push out the thoughts from the night before. Jackson left the party without and explanation almost as soon as we're taken our group photos. I went to find him only to be told by Caitlyn's date that he had gone. After that I stayed by Caitlyn's side and sipped on wine coolers. Now I rub sleep from my eyes and look over at her bed where everything had gone wrong. She was sound asleep still. As we got ready for bed the night before she drilled me for details. I gave her the facts of the first time my ex and I had slept together only making it less awkward than it really was. She never had to know.

I unburied my from the pillows it always ended up under looking for a text message from him. Only my phone was unbearably blank. The absence of my usual good morning text unnerved me more than the abrupt ending from the night before. Jackson always got up early to go for a run. He ran ten miles every morning. Quietly, I got up and prepared for the day. I look at my phone one more time before deciding to go for a run myself.

Looping around the outside perimeter of campus, I ran away from the worries of my perfect relationship. I try to forget the warnings Jasmine gave us all before that first party, before I ever met Jackson Harris. After all this time, I stopped believing that he would have ever treated me in so a callous manner. Finishing my run, I jogged to my room where Caitlyn was now awake but just barely. She sat on her bed, under her comforter still.

"Shit." She muttered. "How could you let me drink so much? And how can you be so peppy?" Caitlyn's tone accused me of something I couldn't put my finger on.

"I didn't drink my weight in fruity cocktails." I pointed out as I plopped onto my bed pulling off my shoes. Hitting the home screen on my phone my heart fell yet again. Caitlyn threw her body back onto her bed and rolled on her side, her back now to me.

"I'm going to sleep today away." She mumbled to the wall as if it would ever care. I shrugged and left the room to take a shower.

Looking up from the lounge-floating device, I could see Jackson pulling off his shirt getting ready to jump into the pool with me. It was middle of September and the water wasn't as warm as I would have liked, but Jackson and I decided today was the perfect time to go for a swim so we skipped class to drive through the neighborhood until we found a house with a clean pool. He helped me jump the fence before jumping down on the other side after me. I giggled and his hand slipped over my mouth from behind. "Shh." He pushed the air from his lips.

"Do you want us to get caught?" He was laughing himself now. I stripped down to my underwear and jumped into the pool. I didn't care about making noise at this point.

Jackson pulled off his t-shirt revealing his ripped muscles. I was very happy to be in the water or it would be a little more obvious that I was becoming aroused. With his shirt off I could see on the left side of his chest was a tribal tattoo; it stretched over his shoulder and curled around his bicep. He dropped his pants and quickly cannonballed into the open water next to me, splashing my face. I chuckled as he pulled the floaty towards him and forced me off. When I came back up for air, Jackson pulled me into his arms our legs treading water he was kissing me. I placed my hands around his waist, holding him. Before I knew it my back was against the wall of the pool and his hands were in my hair.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” A voice erupted through our haze. I pushed Jackson off of me to see a middle aged man standing at the door a phone in his hands. "I am calling the police!" I stood there frozen in fear. Suddenly, Jackson was pushing me out of the water to the top of the wall. "Yes I need law enforcement." I could hear the man saying but all I could do was stand there. Jackson gathered our clothes and pulled me by the arm. We were both over the fence again by the time I realized what was happening, we ran together down to his car.

Jackson peeled out of the block and started turning down random roads, trying to make a path out of the neighborhood without drawing too much attention. In the distance, I could hear the police sirens but we were safe now.

It was on my way to class that I finally texted him. Keeping my eyes on my phone, I almost ran into five different people. No response came. Throughout my class I kept my phone on top of my desk and instead of writing notes, I kept my eyes on the black screen that stayed black. Class ended without a single word from the lecture reaching me. It was on my way back to the Phi Nu house that I saw Jackson; standing under a tree he was talking down to a person that I couldn't see. As I adjusted my course to approach him, determined to get answers that I saw it was a girl he was talking to and then kissing. I stopped dead in my tracks. He was holding her now, hands on her small waist. I didn't even know that my feet were moving again until I was right next to them.

"What the hell?" The words escaped my mouth. He turned his head from her without dropping his embrace of her.

"Hey Leila." His tone was so causal it angered me even more. She glared at me.

"Who are you?" She asked annoyance dripped from her words.

"I'm his girlfriend, who the fuck are you?" I bite back on my tongue. She took a step away from him now.

"Jackson, I'm going to go. This girl is crazy." With that the girl flounced away from us. Now Jackson turned to me fully. He smiled an amused grin at me.

"Girlfriend?" He asked. "Since when did we label each other boyfriend and girlfriend?" Stunned I didn't have anything to say. "Listen, Leila, you're great and I have fun with you, but we've never said what we were so I don't think it's fair for you to call yourself my girl."

"Excuse me? Are we fifteen?" I snapped at him. "Have you been sleeping with other girls this whole time?"

"Who said anything about having sex? But yes. You couldn't expect to keep me having sleeping with you and me not find someone that would." Jackson pulled up his slipping backpack higher on his shoulder.

"We did have sex." I pointed out. "If that's what you can call you fucking me and then ignoring me for the rest of the night."

"That was only last night." He sighed. His bemusement twisted into exasperation. "Come on, babe. We were just having a good time. Let's go back to my room and we can talk about this some more."

"I'm not going anywhere with you, asshole." I said pointedly before turning away from him. I rushed back to the house and up into my room. Caitlyn was still asleep in her bed so I dropped all by things onto my desk and climbed into my own bed.

CHAPTER FOUR

Book
open on my desk, I flipped through pages absentminded. Caitlyn was getting ready for a party at Phi Kappa Nu. She didn't seem to notice that I wasn't fluttering around preparing to leave so I didn't mention the fact that I wasn't going. After what happened yesterday, I wasn't ready to go out and see Jackson. When she finally emerged from her hung over slumber she had gone out to get some greasy diner food without a word. I knew that she would be too sick too notice that I was upset yesterday, but today my mood had not improved and she still didn't give me a second glance.

"I am so thrilled for this party!" She burst back into the room. "Our first real party as sisters!" That's when she made note of my yoga pants and sweatshirt. I felt her eyes boring into my back. "Leila..."

"Yeah I'm not going." I stated not lifting my eyes from the textbook.

"Yes, you are. Get up now!" She grabbed my shoulders and swiveled my chair around to face her. I looked up at her now and she could see my pale face entirely without makeup. I had bags the size of Texas, and in the few moments I was alone I allowed myself to cry so now she could see my tear stained cheeks. "What did Jackson do to you?" I avoided her question by looking down at her feet adorned in slivery strap heels. She grabbed my chin and raised my face to her's.

"He had been cheating on me this whole time." I confessed. "Also, our first time wasn't as romantic or sweet as I led you to believe." The words sighed out of my mouth. "So I am not going to the party." Caitlyn pulled over her desk chair and sat in front of me. She took my hands into her's, giving them a comforting squeeze.

"What a jackass." Caitlyn frowned at our hands. "Do you want me to stay home? I'll get us some ice cream and I'm sure Heather would be willing to buy us a bottle of vodka." I shook my head.

"No, I just want to be alone right now. You go out and have fun." I gave her a sad little smile.

This was our routine for the next couple of weeks that followed. Each week whether the party was hosted by them, or us; Caitlyn offered not to go and I pushed her out the door. She would have stayed I was sure of it but at the end of the night I knew she would be moaning about how the party was probably so much fun. It was by the fourth week that she put her foot down. It was our turn to host and the downstairs had been transformed into a rave scene including neon glow sticks and black lights. When we returned to our room, Caitlyn took my textbooks and laptop from my desk and placed them on her own.

"You're done moping around here like some ghoul in the attic." She snapped at me and I knew that there was no use in arguing with her. We had kept what happened between us but the other sisters were beginning to whisper about me. With a sigh, I went to our closet and pulled together an outfit and came out for her to inspect. "Perfect!" She clapped wildly.

Within the next hour, music started bumping through the speakers and sisters buzzed around excitedly. I was given the job of doorkeeper when I showed up downstairs so I moved quickly outside. Another newer sister, Crystal, was assigned door duty as well. Crystal was a quieter girl but she was fun enough. Once you got her to open up you should see that she had a sense of humor. The first hour only a few guests trickled in, as it got later more and more people showed up. It was around that time that I saw him approaching in the distance. He wasn't coming the direction of the frat house. Another sister came out to relieve me in that moment.

"What am I assigned now?" I asked her and she just waved me in.

"Nothing, Jasmine said that all the other jobs are taken care of at the moment." Jackson caught up with one his brothers that I did not know only ten feet from the table so I quickly ducked back into the house and lost myself in the party. Caitlyn was dancing with a guy at the center of the room. She'd broken a glow stick and splashed it all over the front of her shirt. I pushed through to the kitchen where the bar was settled and where the large bag of glow sticks was. I easily snap one open and paint the front of my blouse. Heather handed me a couple of Jell-O shots and I took them back-to-back. The girls around me woo'd loudly and put more in my hands. We toasted to the night before I went out into the main room again. I found Caitlyn again joined her dancing around the middle of the room. Moving to the music, I began to forget about Jackson as I danced with other men as the came onto the floor and left for whatever reason. I felt hands on my hips and a body pressed against mine, I thought maybe Caitlyn was now dancing against me but when I turned around I saw that it was him, a drink in hand. His hips swayed with mine. He offered me his drink and I took it, draining half of it quickly. He grinned and before I knew it his lips was on mine. We did all of this without a word; we continued to kiss and dance through six more songs, taking breaks to get more drinks.

We eventually found a corner of the room; he had pressed my back against the wall. Hands in my hair, lips on my neck. I placed my hands on his hips, pressing him into my own hips. He glanced around the dark room, no one paid us half a mind, he moved on of my hands from his side to the front of his jeans. I could feel his bulging erection.

"Leila that is what you do to me. You drive me crazy with your silence, you've been avoiding me." He said into my ear. "Then I come here and you don't say hi to me, then I find you out here dancing with any man you can. This is what you do." He took me by the mouth forcefully.

"So you were jealous?" I asked him finally pushing him off of me. Jackson chuckled but nodded his head and began to kiss me again. "Come show me how much you missed me." I breathed between caresses. I pulled him by the hand towards the stairwell that lead up to my room. He shut the door behind us, turning the lock. Our lips found each other again. I placed my hand on his crotch once again, cupping his cock through his jeans. He worked at taking off his pants and they fell to the ground around his feet. I pulled his boxers down over his hips and his manhood bounced upwards. I licked its length, he anxiously thrusted his hips forward. Jackson grabbed my hand and placed it on his balls, I gently massaged them as I sucked the throbbing pinkish head of his cock, taking him entirely into my mouth.

"Fuck." I heard him mumbling as I stroked him with my tongue. He pulled me up to him by my arms. Jackson worked quickly removing my clothes and discarding them in a pile by my bed. He laid be back and climbed on top of me between my legs that were now wrapped around his waist, driving in to me I let out a grasp. The feeling of him filled me satisfyingly. Jackson cupped my breast in his hands giving them a firm squeeze; he sucked on my nipples with a small bite. His thrusts were alternating between deep and slow and fast and shallow. Jackson let out a low groan and I knew he had finished; he collapsed on top of me before rolling on to his side next to me. "Would you have let those other men do that to you?" A nervous giggle burst from my chest.

"What would you have done if I had?" Jackson wrapped his arms around me.

"I would have hunted them down and killed them." His tone shot through me and I knew that it was at least partly true.

The next day, I woke up to a 'good morning' text message with a winking emoticon. I felt as if those three weeks hadn't happened, Caitlyn stared at me from her the doorway as I smiled down at my phone. "No don't tell me. He came crawling back." I didn't look up at her, which I assumed gave her the answer she needed. That night he took me to dinner and then back to his place. It was perfect once again. Everyday that week was the exact same until one morning Caitlyn woke up complaining loudly that her period was going to prevent her from having fun at the party that night. My heart sank. I trained my eyes on my notebook as I calculated days. Sixteen days. It had been sixteen days since I was supposed to get my period.

"I mean seriously why do our bodies have to punish us once a month for not having babies!" She threw herself onto her bed, sprawling out. "Should they congratulate us for being so smart? Safe sex right?" He had never used a condom, I thought. My heart was beating so hard I could barely hear the thought in my own head.

"I have to go to the store!" I stood up abruptly. "Do you need anything?"

"Actually I need tampons, do you mind?" Shaking my head I snatched my purse and booked it out the door. The entirety of my walk I thought about how there were a few other options. I could suddenly be infertile. Through that would be short-lived relief. I also thought about how I would tell Jackson, who I was sure still didn't consider me his girlfriend as we never discussed what we were doing since our break. I grabbed two packs of two tests that claimed to only take two minutes and the box of tampons for Caitlyn. The cashier cocked an eyebrow as he rang up my purchases. All I could do was avoid his glaze. Swiping my card with one hand and reaching for the bag with my other, I booked it for the door as soon as the reader said 'approved.'

On the way back, I stopped into a classroom building and found the first bathroom. I closed the stall and stared into the bag. I couldn't believe that this was happening. The instructions were simple. I peed on all four sticks back to back placing them atop of the plastic toilet paper holder. With my head in my hands I waited until the timer reached the 1:58 mark. I looked up at the tests as each one turned positive.
