Chapter Four

The next day went perfectly, and soon the night started to come to a close. She found herself dancing on the floor in his arms, but they both kept their distance in a way that she didn’t want to. She sighed to herself, knowing very well that it was almost impossible that anyone would know unless she told them. She wasn’t out with friends. This club was new, but it was too much to risk.

They both danced close, but never too close. She could feel the heat of his body, and when no one was looking the way he touched her arm reassuringly. The stolen kiss when the bartender walked away and everyone seemed too intoxicated in the night to care. When they were at the apartment once more she kissed him, furiously and pressing. His lips moved against hers, and she wrapped her arms around his neck as he started to nip and suck on her bottom lip. His tongue danced over hers before pulling away. They sat together, leaning into one another before Nathan turned to her.

“Are you on the pill?” He asked, and for a moment Carol couldn’t figure out what he was asking, and then it donned on her. Her eyes widened, and his steady gaze just caught her there.

“No...” She said, eyes wide as she bit her bottom lip, worried he’d be upset. Nathan leaned down to whisper in her ear, nipping it as she shivered. Worry and lust raced through her, warring for her attention.

“Good.” He whispered, and that single word seemed to shatter her into joy as her heart leapt.

“Good?” She repeated, and he nodded, pulling away.

“It’s about time we put this silly nonsense of us not being right behind us, don’t you think? Start a family. Like a real couple…” He teased her, and she was caught on every word he said.

She bit her bottom lip, trying to keep from beaming as he kissed her again. He started to caress down her sides as she shivered under his touch, opening her legs for him as he started to undo his pants. Her skirt rode up, and she bit her bottom lip, closing her eyes as he lined his cock up with her wet, wanting hole. Pushing in, he started to fuck her.

“That’s right, Carol, squirm.” He groaned, pushing into her a little harder.

“Fuck.” He exclaimed, driving himself closer and closer to orgasm.

“Oh, God.” She gasped, eyes fluttering closed in pleasure at the thought of everything he just said as he took her raw right there on her living room couch.

“Please.” She begged him, feeling herself reaching climax as she spasmed around him.

“Please. Please come inside of me.” She begged, screaming his name as she went over the edge. Her vision blurred as pleasure racked her body, racing through her. He groaned above her. Not even able to answer as his cock twitched and throbbed deep inside of her wet, spasming pussy before he exploded, filling her once more as her arms wrapped around him.

“Yes.” She groaned, and they once again collapsed into exhaustion. The next few days were spent exactly like that. Free to enjoy each other in the privacy of their own home, wet and wanting. Shared kisses and stolen touches. It wasn’t until he was about to ship out that she had the courage to take a pregnancy test, and her world stood still as she saw the results.

“Nathan…” She called loudly, and he popped his head in. He quirked a brow at her, waiting, and she showed him the strip. His grin couldn’t get any wider as he wrapped her in his arms, placing a firm kiss on her lips.

“Good.” He whispered as they both looked down at the test once more. Positive. Her heart leapt. She didn’t know how to take the news. She didn’t know what it meant for them. She didn’t know anything except she wanted this. She wanted a family with her stepbrother. If that was wrong, she didn’t want to be right, but she didn’t want him to leave so soon either.

“Kiss me.” She begged, and Nathan was all too happy to oblige. With his hands roaming down her sides, teasing and taunting her, his lips brushed against her own. They danced together as his tongue caressed her own, and they were lost in one another.

“I’m so happy…” She whispered when he finally pulled away, and he didn’t say anything. Instead, Nathan scooped her up in his arms, carrying her bridal style to the bedroom as she giggled. He laid her on the bed, turned on the TV and curled up beside her. His cock was hard, but he just wanted to enjoy the moment. He knew soon enough they’d be exploring each other’s bodies once more. For now, all he wanted was her curled by his side as their fantasy of wanting a family turned into their reality.

It had been six months since Holland had returned from his stint in Japan. When his orders came in to head back to the States, he had been more than ready. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with Japan, per se, but he had been homesick and longed for a slice of real American pizza. In the six months since he had returned however, the homesickness had worn off and he found himself longing for the life he had built in Fussa. Never in his air force career had he longed to return to a station as much as he longed to go back to Yokota.

“It’ll just take you a while to readjust, honey. Remember your last assignment? How long did it take you to get used to living in Japan after that?” Holland’s well-meaning mother lectured. Holland shrugged.

“It’s different this time though, it just feels…I can’t explain it.” He ran his hand over his short brown buzz cut.

“You’ll be just fine. And hey! At least here you have me?” Laura Golding gave her son a halfhearted smile and he forced one back. She was trying, he had to give her that.

“Yeah, I know.” Laura leaned down and gave him a one armed hug as he sat at the dining table.

“Maybe we need to set you up with a nice young lady? You know, to help take your mind off things? Margaret’s daughter is single and she just got a promotion at the credit union!” Holland shook his head slowly.

“Thanks, mom, but I don’t think I’m ready to get in to all that just yet.” Laura rifled through her small address book.

“Well look, let me give you her number and then at least you have it in case you change your mind.” Finding the right page, she ripped it out of her book and offered it to Holland. “I think you’ll really like her, she’s very pretty and…” she lowered her voice to a whisper, “she has big boobs too!” Holland laughed.

              “Thanks, mom.”

Holland’s mother had absolutely no idea what it was that Holland looked for in a woman. She assumed that he was attracted to the same qualities as his dad had been – a big breasted blonde with a fierce independent streak. She couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Holland lay in bed listening to the rhythmic ticking of his clock. The noise had always soothed him to sleep, but tonight it simply provided comfort in the darkness. No matter how many times he had been stationed overseas, Holland had always readjusted after a few weeks. He would have thought that coming back to America would have been the easiest readjustment to make of all. Still, six months later here he lay, wondering what his buddies back in Fussa were doing. Rolling over Holland caught sight of the slip of paper his mother had given him earlier. He pulled out his iPad, at least looking Donna Reeth up would settle his minimal curiosity as to what she looked like.

Opening up a search engine page, Holland typed in her name and phone number. The first hit was her Facebook page. Clicking the link, Holland was greeted with a close up picture of a bleached blonde with equally bleached teeth. He glanced over her profile. She was two years younger than him at thirty four, but she looked much younger. She listed her favorite books as “Eat, Pray, Love” and “The Twilight Saga.” That was all Holland needed to know before he went to his own Facebook page and closed the book on Barbara’s daughter for good.

Holland’s Facebook page was minimal, he kept it that way on purpose. He had always been a believer of not giving up more information than was necessary to Big Brother. His sister had always accused him of being paranoid, but Holland wouldn’t budge, he was sure that someone, somewhere, was keeping tabs on everyone.

As Holland stared momentarily at the cover image he had posted of the horizon in Fussa. Just as he went to navigate away from the page he noticed a small ad on the right side of the page.

Meet the most beautiful Japanese women.

Hundreds of Japanese ladies seeking romance,

love and marriage.

Holland laughed under his breath, but before he knew what he was doing he had clicked on the link. As soon as the page pulled up, Holland couldn’t help shaking his head at its stereotypically Asian design. He had never visited a mail order bride site before, he’d never even thought about it.

Hello, Friend!

A small box popped up on the corner of the screen. Holland paused, unsure whether it was an automated message.

Are you still there? I would like to be chatting with you.

Holland moved the cursor in to the text box and typed.

I am here.

There was another pause. Holland clicked the link at the top of the page, “Our Brides.”

Hello! My name is Miko! I am very happy to know you!

Holland chuckled at the broken English. It sounded so very much like someone trying to bait him in.

Hello, Miko. My name is Holland.

He hesitated for a moment before adding:

I am also very pleased to meet you!

Scrolling down the page, Holland looked through the profile pictures of the girls. They were all dressed very stereotypically, an attempt to lure in the weirdos, Holland thought.

Are you living in America, Holland?

Holland nodded as he typed back.

Yes, I live in Texas. Where do you live?

As he sent the message, Holland caught sight of a round faced, pink cheeked girl and clicked her picture.

MEET MIKO!

Holland frowned as he examined the picture closely, was this the same Miko he was talking with?

I am from Chiba. This is a city in Japan.

Holland smiled at his iPad screen.

I have been there. I lived in Japan for two years!

Looking down at Miko’s profile, Holland saw that her city listed was Chiba. His eyes flitted back up to her picture, could this really be the girl he was chatting with? Her plump pink lips offered up an innocent smile and the round apples of her cheeks lifted high, causing her almond eyes to squint.

That is great! Would you like to chat on video?

Holland sat up slightly in bed. Here it was, here was where she asked for his credit card number or gave him a 1-900 number to dial.

I can call you on Skype!

This second message made him curious. There would be no money in it for her to call him on Skype. Reaching over he turned on the bedside lamp.

Okay! But I am in bed so I might look a bit rough!

Holland sat completely upright and propped his iPad up on his knees.

Oh I am so sorry! I can call another time?

It would make sense for her to call when he was more prepared, but now Holland was curious as to exactly who he was talking to.

I don’t mind. I would like to see your fac
e

Holland waited for her reply.

I would like to see you also.

Suddenly Holland began to feel very nervous. What if the girl calling him was the same girl as the one in the picture? What was he doing? What did he plan to do? He wasn’t looking for a wife!

My Skype is AFHolland1746998

He waited anxiously. A few minutes passed in silence and just as Holland was debating running to the bathroom, his iPad began to ring.

Incoming Skype Call from LotusBlossom88

Holland could feel his heart begin to race. It was too late to back out now!

“Hello?” There was the sound of a microphone moving and then a video screen popped up. Sure enough, there, smiling back at him was the same girl from the picture on the website. She waved frantically.

“Hello! You can see me?” Holland nodded with a smile.

“Yes, I can see you. Can you see me?” She nodded.

“Yes! I can see you. You are very handsome man.” A red blush flushed her cheeks as she covered her mouth with her hand and laughed quietly.

“Thank you. You are very pretty too. I saw your picture on the website and I was wondering if that was you.” She nodded.

“Yes, that is me.” There was an awkward moment of silence before she spoke again. “You are looking for a Japanese wife?” Holland nodded almost involuntarily. “Ah, that is good. I am looking for American husband.” She laughed quietly behind her hand again. “We are a good match then!” Holland laughed. “I am twenty five.” She nodded in affirmation.

“I’m a bit older than that!” Holland laughed again.

“I do not mind older man. I think is sexy!” Miko’s eyes glimmered as she leaned in closer to the screen. “I think you are sexy!” Holland grinned. “And very nice teeth!” She said as she smiled back.

“Why do you want to come to America?” Holland asked, unsure as to why anyone would want to leave the beauty of Japan voluntarily.  Miko’s eyes grew wide.

“I love America! Everything is so big!” Holland couldn’t help laughing at the double entendre in his head. “What?! It’s true! Here in Japan, everything so small!” She held her finger and thumb an inch apart and showed them on the screen. Holland nodded, she wasn’t wrong there. Everything in Japan was small compared to Texas.

“Well, here in Texas, everything is extra big!” Miko’s eyes grew big again and her mouth opened in amazement.

“I would like to live somewhere big!” Miko’s face fell and she leaned her face in the palm of her hand. “But, I think no one pick me.” Holland frowned.

“I’d pick you…” Miko returned to her wide eyed state of happiness as she leaned in to the screen.

“You pick me?!” Holland nodded. “I can be your Japanese bride?” Holland didn’t know what to say but again his body answered for him and he nodded. Miko began screaming. “Oh my God! Oh my God! You pick me!!” Holland laughed nervously. “I come next week!” His heart began to pound so heavily that he could see the thin fabric of his t-shirt ripple. What had he done?

Holland waited by the floor to ceiling window. He had spent the last hour pacing back and forth watching planes taxi in and out, to and from the runway. Now he watched as Miko’s plane sat in front of him and in the pit of his stomach he felt dread. What if he had made a terrible mistake? What if Miko was nothing like he had imagined her to be? They had only chatted on Skype a handful of times before he offered to fly her out to Texas.               He knew that he was a fool for spending so much money to fly a near stranger out to meet him. He hadn’t even told his friends or family about Miko yet and then here he was waiting for her to disembark.

The door opened and people began to file out, their carryon luggage in hand. Holland scanned each one of them, watching for Miko. He needn’t have worried about missing her however, because when she saw him first she squealed his name.

“Holland Golding!” Her accent made it sound more like ‘Horrand Go-ding’ but he couldn’t possibly have missed the gorgeous Asian woman running at him full speed. When she reached him, she stood on her tiptoes and threw her arms around his neck. “I can’t believe I am here, finally!” Holland wrapped his arms around her and took a deep breath in. She smelled like warm vanilla.

“Did you have a good flight?” He didn’t know why he’d asked such a mundane question, but it had seemed like the right one to ask. Miko pulled back from their hug, nodding her head.

“It was long time, but everyone is so nice to me!” Holland looked over at a few of the passengers still leaving the terminal gate, most of them were military.

“That’s good! We should go and get your bags so we can get home and you can rest. I bet you are tired.” Everything Holland said felt so unfamiliar, as though he were talking to a complete stranger. Sure, it wasn’t as though he knew Miko as well as he should, but he found himself talking to her as if she was someone else’s grandmother.

“I just have one bag!” Miko exclaimed as they began heading toward the baggage claim.

By the time they got there, the carousel had already begun to turn and Holland dreaded weeding through the hundreds of identical cases.

“Mine is pink!” Miko exclaimed as she began to chase the carousel around its snaking path. Holland watched in wonder as petite 5’3 Miko slipped through a gap in the crowd and lifted a large hard-backed case off the carousel. “I found it!” She called in a muted shout. Holland walked over to her laughing.

“Let me get it for you!” Miko shook her head.

“I can do it.” She protested but when Holland took the case from her hands she smiled gratefully.

“What are you smuggling in here? It’s so heavy!” He chuckled.

“No! I do not smuggle anything!” Miko’s voice took on a tone of sincere worry and Holland’s chuckle turned in to an outright laugh.

“I was kidding! I just meant that your bag was heavy.” Miko paused before covering her mouth and laughing quietly.

“Oh! Haha, yes. I bring a lot of things in case you want me to stay.” Color began to creep in to her cheeks at the mention of Holland allowing her to stay with him for good.
