Lucas is crazy good at all of this political and military strategy stuff. It doesn’t really surprise me. He’s smart and fair. He’s exactly the kind of guy that can pull us back together at the end of this. I think Captain Jennings sees it too.

We continue to do recon and to wait. We continue to look for survivors and we wait. We continue to build the largest barriers we can across the country…and we wait.

I take comfort in my backup plan. It helps that the guys are with me even if having to keep it from Lucas sucks. I promise myself to come clean when this is all over if we don’t have to initiate the emergency evacuation. I don’t want any secrets between us. They can hurt too badly.

The others are still thriving (and getting some really great tans too.) It helps to know that their lives are improving.

Lucas and I lie in bed and snuggle close. I’ll stay in the now: in the arms of the man I love for as long as possible. I’ll keep him safe even longer than that.
