Marcus couldn't control the sudden
laughter that erupted from his mouth. This laughter earned a glare
from Lola.

"She's right, sweetheart," he managed
to get out over his laughter. " Go ahead and tell your mother about
your coital vision."

Lola explained to her mother exactly
what she had seen.

When she began describing the man, she
initially hesitated but eventually provided greater detail about
the man's appearance and how evil he looked.

Sable looked thoughtful as she listened
to what Lola said.

"You say this man looked a lot like
Marcus, only older?" Sable asked.

"Yes, he looked like an evil older
version of Marcus."

Sable looked at Marcus, and took his
hand in hers.

"Marcus," she said. "I know who your
biological father is, dear. And he happens to be the evil that is
threatening all of us."

Chapter Six

"WHAT ARE YOU talking about, Sable?"
Marcus asked after a shocked silence. "Are you just kidding me
or..."

"Just what I said, dear," she replied,
regret on her face. "I know who your biological father
is."

Marcus clearly could not speak. He knew
about his mother-in-law's mission, about how she was a female James
Bond within the magical world. Part of him wanted to her, while his
emotions were taking a little bit later to join in.

"Oh, Goddess help me," Lola wailed. "I
need more food!"

She crossed the room to the house phone
and called Amie down in the kitchen requesting more sandwiches.
Sable and Marcus sat by the fire and talked about this new bomb
that she had dropped on him.

Lola was not sure what to make of it,
but she figured that food would help. As she joined them again, she
heard her mother telling Marcus about how she knew this
information.

Lola sat down on the loveseat beside
Marcus and curled up next to him. He put an arm around her and drew
her closer to him.

"Now, I was just explaining to Marcus
how I know this. It was also in New Orleans that I first came in
contact with him. His name is Nicholas Laveau, and he's one of the
most powerful warlocks that I've ever met. There are many that
claim he's a descendant of Marie Laveau, the famous voodoo queen
that lived in ancient times. They said he looked so much like her
husband, the voodoo king, and maybe as powerful. At any rate, he
was not your usual Cajun with that dark auburn hair and ocean-blue
eyes. Though he sometimes might talk of ancient ways but it was
impossible he lived that long! Noone could sustain that kind of
magic! He would have to be... one of the undead." Sable shook her
head, as if just thinking about it seem so foolish she had to shake
it off herself or it might contaminate. "Anyway, his own ancestry
isn't clear, but what is known about him is that he is able to do
things that you would never imagine. In addition, none of the
things he's done have benefited anyone but himself. Nicholas is
definitely a force to be reckoned with and we must all be prepared
to deal with whatever it is that he's planning."

There was a light knock on the
door.

Lola knew it was Amie with her
sandwiches so she called out for her to come in.

Amie entered bearing a tray piled high
with sandwiches. She had also included another pot of tea, along
with an extra cup for Sable. How she had known that Sable had
arrived was anyone's guess.

Once Amie left, Marcus asked more
questions of Sable, but she had basically told him everything that
she knew. Marcus decided to call the Council back together to see
if this new information jogged anything with any of
them.

Lola insisted on taking a plate of
sandwiches with her from the ones that were left over. Marcus and
Sable both gave her odd looks, then exchanged glances.

MARCUS PRESENTED what he had learned to
the Council. Augusta had begun to get a thoughtful look on her face
as he spoke. She waited until he had finished speaking before
adding to the conversation.

"My King, I am aware of Nicholas
Laveau. I'm also relatively sure that I know what he's up to. For
many years, there has been talk of a portal that can be opened for
those that reside in the lower world to come into this world. There
are demons that will come to join common criminals to prey on
innocent humans. Supporters see it as a way for witches to come out
of hiding and openly practice their magic. However, they have not
thought it through. They don't see the dangers that this move will
bring."

"Are you saying that he has supporters
in our community?" Marcus asked.

"Yes, that's exactly what I am saying.
In addition, we've managed to find out more about your biological
mother. It seems that she was dabbling in magic when she became
pregnant with you. She wasn't a natural-born witch. Rather, she was
trying to teach herself the art of magic when she apparently caught
the attention of Nicholas. He took her under his wing, so to speak,
and you were the result. It seems that she may have tried to find
him at one point, but then she simply vanished. Nicholas has been
underground a long time. In fact, he is rumored to be very old, but
he doesn't actually look it."

"So are you suggesting that Adair
summoned him with the misguided notion that she would join him in
ruling a new and evil world?" Lola asked as she munched on a
seafood salad finger sandwich.

"I'm afraid so, my Queen," Augusta
answered.

"Then we need to find a way to stop
this now before it goes any further," Marcus said.

"Dear boy, it has gone much further
than any of you know."

They all turned to look at Drake, a
member of the Council.

As he rose to his feet, his appearance
drastically changed.

A tall man with dark auburn hair and
ice blue eyes stood there.

He turned his stare fully on Marcus and
smiled.

Chapter Seven

"HELLO, my son," he said. "Allow me to
introduce myself. I am Nicholas Laveau. Although you may call me
Father, if you wish."

It took them time to adjust to what was
happening before them.

Finally, Carlos, another Council
member, started to react. He managed to get off one ball of fire in
the direction of the newcomer before he was effectively stopped by
Nicholas who turned the fireball back towards him.

The rest of the Council members watched
in horror as Carlos exploded on the spot.

"Now, Do the rest of you want to
challenge me?" he asked.

Everyone was frozen until someone
spoke.

"I do," Marcus replied and stood up.
"You're the creature that helped to create me and I couldn't be
more appalled to know that. But that also makes me more qualified
to challenge you and stop you from this madness that you seem
hell-bent on unleashing on the earth. This is my home and you need
to go back where you came from."

Nickolas burst into peals of unpleasant
laughter and applauded Marcus's speech. "Do you really think that
you're strong enough to stop me? Just because you're my son doesn't
mean anything, other than I must get you out of the way
quickly."

He flicked a glance at Lola that
immediately made her feel dirty.

"I'll be claiming your beautiful wife
as my own, just so you know. You can think about that in the
seconds before your death." With those words, Nickolas raised his
hand to lob a ball of flame towards his son.

Nothing happened.

In fact, his hand froze in
place.

"What is this?" he exclaimed. "Someone
has been doing a bit of practicing, but it won't do you any
good!"

He looked around the room to see from
where this power was emanating.

He was forced back down into his chair
by an unseen strength as another chair flew across the room toward
a window where the shutters opened onto nothing but sky and
sunlight.

Clouds rapidly arrived from out of
nowhere. The sky suddenly burst, a powerful thunderstorm appeared
and hundreds of bolts of lightning exploded.

one lightning streak crawled down
towards the earth and hit the castle's window, striking Nickolas on
the chest.

Nickolas Laveau never had the chance to
scream.

His mouth was opened in shock as he
turned into ash.

Even The Council was in awe of what had
just taken place as Lola and Sable got up from their chairs and
walked over to the pile of black ash. They looked at it, then at
each other, and blew gently.

The ashes swirled up and into the air,
gathered momentum, and blew out of the window.

The two witches smiled at each other
and then walked back to the table.

Marcus stood up to greet his wife with
a look of amazement on his face.

"I never realized how good you are!" he
exclaimed as he took her into his arms.

"Never underestimate the power of a
witch in love," she said as she smiled at him. "Of course, I
couldn't have done it without Mother's help."

"A witch in love and protecting her
own," Sable corrected. She smiled. "The pleasure was all mine,
darling. I just wish the spell would have taken effect before he
was able to kill poor Carlos. It was a good thing I realized who he
was when my daughter saw his face in her, err, vision," she said,
as her daughter's face flushed red. "And I remembered how he was
defeated the last time he did this. I expect he will find another
way to recoup and he might... be back."

A disappointed murmur was heard inside
the chamber.

"Next time, since we know who he is,
we'll be ready," Lola said determinedly.

This seemed to revive the
group.

Marcus sighed. "I'll have to study my
powers better. I can't be all bark and no bite."

"Tst, don't think that," his wife
admonished him. "I couldn't have used that amount of power without
you here. The spell was a manifestation of the 'Soul Mates' power.
I agree, though, that you could practice on your physical magic
more."

"If he comes back," Augusta said,
"we'll all be ready. We can't be taken out just like this." She was
looking at Carlos' ash mournfully.

They offered a few minutes of silence
as they paid respect to Carlos, and then cleansed the place of
negativity.

Chapter Eight

SOON, Augusta had the ash in a
vessel.

"Now that that's over with, there's
someone I need to meet. Do you think we can dial down the
protection spell on this place just long enough for me to admit my
guest?" asked Sable.

"Of course, Mother," Lola told
her.

Sable departed, and Lola turned to her
husband. "Marcus, I'm tired, so I'm going to lie down." She was
frowning a little. She did not tire easily.

"I'll join you, sweetheart. I'm sure
that took quite a lot of energy out of you."

He put his arm around her and they
returned to their bedroom, where she kicked her shoes off and
positioned herself on the bed. "Come here, my King," she commanded
as she used her finger to motion him to her.

"I thought you were tired," he
said.

"Oh, I also need a kiss and a hug..."
she said as she pulled him down.

Their kiss deepened into something much
more, just as it always did. She should have known. She did not
want to stop it, and soon their clothes were piled by the bed as
their naked bodies writhed together under the blankets.

It was a gentle, comforting lovemaking.
Marcus sensed that she needed comfort more than sexual passion, and
he did not let her exert herself too much. Instead, she lay on her
back while he made love to her body; kissing her all over, touching
her skin, caressing her while his hard cock rode inside her...
slowly, sensually, until they both reached that pinnacle of erotic
release.

As they lay together afterward, still
kissing and caressing each other, Lola's cell phone rang. Marcus
reached over to give it to her.

It was her mother.

"Lola, darling," Sable said. "Would it
be possible for you and Marcus to join me downstairs? Your father
would like to say hello."

"Father? Dad's here?" Lola couldn't
help but to squeal in delight. "Wait a minute. Dad's your
guest?"

"There's no need to make such a huge
deal out of it," Sable retorted. "It's not like I haven't known him
forever."

"I know you, Mother. This is a very
huge deal! And yes, Marcus and I will be down shortly."

"Your father is here?" Marcus asked as
she laid her head on his chest.

"Yes, apparently he's Mother's
guest."

He sighed. "Which means you're going to
postpone your rest. We're going to have to go down so we can say
hello."

She began smiling, and he looked
curious. "Is there something wrong, sweetheart?"

She sighed. "I suppose I have to tell
you first before I tell them."

"What?"
