“I'm going to miss you, Susie.” Josh was holding the baby girl that had been his special charge. He kissed her and then handed her back to her mother. “I'll come back and see her when she's grown.”
Sarah said, “I think I'm going to cry,” for she had just said good-bye to her own special infant. She turned and walked away.
Before mounting his unicorn, Josh went over to shake hands with Gus. “Gus,” he said, “you're a fine fellow. You'll make the best governor in the whole world.”
“Or anywhere else for that matter.” Gus winked. “Come back and see us, Josh. We need to hear more about Goél.”
“I'm sure we'll be coming back, and you'll do fine.”
Josh climbed onto the back of his unicorn, then said, “Let's head 'em out.”
The Seven Sleepers rode out of the castle walls and
made their way down the road. Everything was green, and flowers bloomed along the roadside.
“It's a different place without those monsters and that crazy magician,” Reb said, riding beside him. “Goél sure knows how to put us in the right place at the right time.”
On the other side of Josh, Sarah just listened to the two of them talk. She still looked sad at having to leave all the babies.
“I reckon it was a good experience,” Reb finally said, summing up everything.
“Reb, is changing diapers harder than killing dragons?” Josh asked suddenly. He winked over at Sarah.
Reb Jackson took off his hat, studied it, then put it back on his head. “I reckon,” he said firmly, “I like both. A man needs a little variety!”
