Chapter Nine

It didn’t take long before Alexandria had moved in with Curtis and he kept her and Timmy Jr. as fly as he was. Curtis felt that Alexandria and Timmy Jr. were his family.

Alexandria left her job at Denny’s. Her job was to take care of Curtis’ house, cook, and fuck him how he liked. Since she moved in with Curtis, her place was turned into a little jump off spot. Her friends would go there with niggas to fuck and get high. The place always smelled like weed and pussy. The niggas didn’t care, but when Alexandria rolled through with Liz and Sofia, all three of them vowed to never go back there because they walked in on some of their friends fucking, sucking dick, and getting high. She figured if she wanted to chill with her girls, Liz and Sofia could chill at the crib since they were her best friends. Of course, Curtis didn’t mind. He didn’t like Alexandria at her old place, anyway, because there was so much hot shit that went on there, he didn’t want her to get caught up in that shit.

Timmy hated picking up his son from Curtis’ house because he knew he was nothing but trouble. But, he appreciated him for moving Alexandria and his son out of the hood. He often prayed that living with Curtis wouldn’t land Alexandria in jail and prayed that his son wouldn’t be caught up in Curtis’ grimy lifestyle.

When Timmy picked up his son, he noticed he wore expensive clothes and shoes. Alexandria was the same way. She wore a tight, black dress that looked good against her butterscotch skin. She wore black leather, open toe, Louboutins that Curtis paid six hundred dollars for. She wore a blinding necklace with a diamond charm with
Curtis
in the middle. Timmy was steaming hot, but didn’t show it.

Bad enough she got this man raising my son and now she’s walking around with his name dangling from her neck like she’s his property,
Timmy thought. Since he was back into preaching and didn’t want to be mixed up in an altercation, he quickly asked
God
to take his worries away. He then gathered his son and left.

Alexandria’s parents were still disappointed in her having a baby so young. They still kept in touch, and sometimes, her mother would send things home for the baby when she kept him. When Alexandria was struggling, she would be grateful for the things she received, but since being with Curtis, she tossed her mother’s things aside like a rag doll.

Her parents loved her and Timmy Jr., but Alexandria was still bitter about them kicking her out. Every time Erica spent time with Timmy Jr. she wished that Alexandria still lived at home so that she could have more time with her grandson, but she felt as though she couldn’t go back on wanting her out of their house.

It was late in the afternoon when Alexandria heard the doorbell ring. She was about to peel potatoes to go with the steak she would prepare for dinner. She was quite the domestic chick. She walked through the kitchen, passing the dining room and the living room to answer the door. When she peeked out of the peephole, she gladly opened the door.

“Ma, what are you doing here?”

She was surprised to see her mother at the door being that Erica was against her living with Curtis because he was a drug dealer. So, Erica never stepped a foot in his house. Every time she talked to her mother, she would ask what she was going to do for her and her son.

“Hey, baby. How are you and my grandson?”

“Come on in.” She stepped aside and Erica walked in. “We’re good. Timmy picked up TJ this morning. He’s having some church event for kids, so he has him for an extended weekend. That gives me two extra days to relax, but I’m sure I’ll miss him by Monday.”

“I bet you will. I’m proud of how good of a mother you are to him.”

“Thank you.” Alexandria smiled. She and her mother walked into the living room. She hadn’t had a chance to put her son’s toys away, so she moved them aside. “Have a seat.”

“Thank you.”

“Are you thirsty? I made some homemade lemonade just like you often showed me.”

“I’ll take a glass with ice,” Erica said with a smile.

When Alexandria returned with two glasses of lemonade with crushed ice and a lemon wedge, Erica smiled at how good it looked. Alexandria grabbed two coasters from the center of the coffee table and set their drinks down.

“I hope you like it.”

After taking a sip, Erica said, “Oh yeah! That’s some good lemonade.”

“Thanks, ma.”

After they finished their drinks, Erica looked at Alexandria. Alexandria could sense her mother had something important on her mind.

“Honey, you know I only want the best for you and your son, but you do know that this lifestyle is only temporary?”

“What are you talking about?”

“This…” Erica pointed to nothing in particular. “Drug dealing doesn’t last always and when this comes to an end, what will you do for yourself and Timmy Jr.?”

“Ma, we’ve been through this over and over. I’m okay here with Curtis. I love him and he loves me.”

“God forbid, but what if he gets locked up, you have to move out, and provide for yourself? You gave up your place, you quit your job, so I just don’t know what to expect. I worry about this all the time.”

“Don’t worry, ma. I got this.” Alexandria smiled to calm down her cheerless mother.

“Alexandria, I want to tell you a story. And, I’m only telling you this because I love you and you are grown.”

“What?”

Erica stared at Alexandria sadly. “When I was about your age, I was involved with a drug dealer as well.”

“Really, ma? Not your goodie goodie a… um, self.” She laughed at her almost slip.

“Yes, me. One day after school when I was a junior in high school, my friends and I were at the mall and when we were leaving, he walked in dangling his Mercedes key chain. When I saw it, I figured he was showing off, but then I looked at him and it was obvious that he had money. A ton of money to be exact. He was the son of a drug lord in the Westside of Baltimore and his father was training him to take over. His father before him sold drugs too. So, his family didn’t know struggle like mine.”

“So, what happened next?”

“He pushed past my friend and my sister to get to me. I was so shocked that I didn’t tell him my name when he asked. He said, ‘You are a real pretty girl. What’s your name?’ I froze.”

“Oh my God! That is so embarrassing.”

“Who are you telling? He laughed at me and then asked me again. Finally, I told him my name was Erica. He told me that he never seen a girl like me with such pretty, light skin. I told him I was Creole, and he said he fell in love after that. He said I had an exotic look about me. Then, when he got to know me, we were crazy in love. Everywhere he went, I went. I thought I would marry him and have his kids. So, I moved out of my parents’ house to be with him all of the time.”

“Wow, ma. I never knew this. So, what happened to him?”

“Skip was his name. He had made so much money one night that he wanted to take his friends and mine out to the skating rink. We were skating, laughing, holding hands, and sharing kisses the entire time. I loved that man so much. Then, after the skating rink was just about empty, we left as well. On our way to his car, he looked into my eyes and told me, ‘I love you so much, Erica.’ I said, ‘you know I love you too,’ and the next thing I knew, I heard gun shots ring out and his chest was full of bloody gunshot holes. I cried so hard and I felt empty that someone would take away the only love that I had. They never found the killer and it took me about five years to let another man get next to me.”

“Ma, that is crazy. Why have you never told me this before?” Alexandria wiped her mother’s tears from her eyes.

“I don’t tell hardly anybody that story. All of my friends that were there and my sister, we barely talk about it, either.”

“I’m so sorry.” Alexandria hugged her.

“It’s okay, honey. I just don’t want to see the same thing happen to you that happened to me. That’s why I’m so involved in the church because I don’t want to see young people living that way. Street life is horrible. You never know if you will wake up today or tomorrow, and you can’t promise your loved ones that they won’t be killed right along with you. That gun man could have easily killed me too.”

“Wow, I never thought about that.”

“I just want you to be ready, so that if the day comes that Curtis can’t take care of you, you won’t find yourself lost like I was. You are pretty much an adult now. You have to think about yourself and your son.”

“I hear you, mom. I still can’t believe you were with a drug dealer. Never in a million years would I have thought it.”

“You do things when you are young that you will never do as a grown woman.”

After sharing more time with her mother, she finally understood what she was saying all along. Alexandria didn’t want to find herself living in public housing ever again and she never wanted to be under her parents’ roof again. But, after talking to her mother, she knew she never would be able to live the life Curtis allowed her to while working a nine to five. She didn’t know what she needed to do, but she figured she would start taking money anyway that she could.

Chapter Ten

“Damn, it smells good like sum’in serious!” Curtis announced as he walked into his house.

He sat his Gucci duffle bag at the bottom of the steps, and then walked into the kitchen where he found Alexandria cooking.

“Baby, I didn’t hear you come in.”

“Of course, you didn’t with that loud shit playing.” He was referring to the stereo that she often listened to while she cooked or cleaned.

Alexandria turned the music down. Curtis walked over to Timmy Jr. and kissed him on his chubby cheek. He walked over to Alexandria, hugged her, and kissed her on her forehead. He loved going home to the both of them. Timmy Jr. adored Curtis and his face lit up wherever he was around.

“I missed you, baby. How was your day?”

“Good, baby. I made a lot of money, shitted on a couple of haters, and I got something for you. I think you’ll like that shit.”

“For real? What is it?”

“You have to wait ‘til later. Now, kiss me.” He pulled her into a kiss. “Love you, girl.”

“Love you too.”

It had been over six months since they had been together, so the love was still fresh and good. They fucked often and Curtis kept Alexandria with whatever she needed and shit she didn’t need. The same was for Timmy Jr. But, he was a hustler, and pussy was easy to get at when you had money. Curtis was sexy, about 5’8, two hundred pounds, and his dark skin was sexy on his muscular frame. He had been to jail for six months and his body showed it. Once he was released, he kept up his muscles by working out every day.

Just before he came home, his other bitch, Karen, was being a bitch to him. She wasn’t getting money like she used to since Curtis loved another bitch. She wasn’t getting fucked like she used to, either.

Curtis went to her house because he heard that she fucked one of his homeboys. He didn’t give a fuck about Karen, but he wasn’t feeling her fucking one of his niggas. His crew clowned him about sleeping with a tramp and often said she’d share her pussy with anybody.

When Curtis busted through her door, she knew he was mad from the scary look on his face. “Bitch! Why the fuck I’m hearing you fucked my nigga, King? You know that shit ain’t cool!” Curtis probably wouldn’t have been mad at Karen if it weren’t for his friends clowning him.

“You’re the one that’s got that bitch laid up in your fucking house. That damn baby ain’t even yours and you got them both chilling. You don’t buy me shit no more, and you don’t even handle this pussy. What the fuck else was I supposed to do!”

“Not fuck my nigga! Since you want to go hard and fuck around with that nigga, fuck you and him. I’m through with you!”

“How the fuck you through with me, nigga? I’ve been through with you!” she screamed. “Get the fuck out!”

“Fuck you, bitch! Fuck you, scandalous ass hoe!”

Karen was so hurt by Curtis’ actions that she knew she would set his ass up somehow. Curtis had been fucking her for about six months. He took her shopping often and every time he hit her pussy, he gave her about five hundred dollars. Any bitch would get used to that. And, any bitch would wild out if a nigga all of a sudden took that shit away.

When Curtis got in his ride, he knew he had to make shit right with Alexandria. He loved her and didn’t need anybody else but her and Timmy Jr. But, it was hard saying no to a bitch that offered him pussy without thinking twice. He went to the store and copped her a pair of new high heels, a purse to match, and a bottle of Baby Phat Goddess. He spent a quick thousand dollars on her, but she was worth it to him.
