“The Fates will want to meet you personally. I’ll make dinner. Do you think you can do vegetarian for one meal.”

“I will eat whatever you cook for the rest of my life. Just please let me do so in this form—Oh Great and Powerful Witch, Defender of Earth and Magic, New Mexico. And I promise to never freeze you again outside of the foreplay you seem to enjoy. I lost my temper when we were fighting. I’m sorry.”

“Goddess help us both. This isn’t going to be easy,” Topper declared.

Her giggle and hug made him laugh and told him everything important. He kissed her face, her hair, and buried his mouth against her neck. His contentment was too large for words, but he had a few to say… and something he had to ask.

“Will you be my mate? I wish us to go public with your people as a couple.”

Topper snorted at his crazy phrasing. “Do I look stupid to you?”

Stark raised his head and frowned. “I swear to the Goddess Icela—I was not making an insinuation about the intelligence of Earthlings. My question was just a simple mating proposal.”

Topper laughed loudly. “Stark—you froze my ass, and then had the audacity to wake me up from it with an orgasm that lasted over a full minute.”

He glared down into her face. “That commentary is still not an answer to my very serious question.”

Topper sighed and ran her fingertips over his pouting mouth. “You are so damn sexy. I never want to leave our bed. And the moment you stepped through the portal in your uniform, I wanted to bawl in relief that you’d come back. Are you sure you’re going to be happy staying here with me?”

Stark nodded and pressed his hips down on hers. “I will always be happy here.”

Topper laughed. “Stop joking. I meant in Magic, not in me.”

Stark shrugged, then grinned. “You are in Magic. I don’t see the difference. Are you playing word games with me?”

Topper closed her eyes and snorted as she shook her head. “Not on purpose, Alien.”

Stark rolled them over and made her squeal. She found herself suddenly staring down into his very serious face. He looked unsure and it bothered her to see him that way. She preferred him arrogant.

“Stark—I love you. Yes, I want us to be a couple, be mates, and maybe even get married. If you really want to be with me, then I want you here, but you have to remember that I’m used to living alone. I’m sure I will have some major adjusting to do.”

Stark nodded against the pillow. “None of that worries me because I am also willing to compromise. We will learn to give each other whatever is needed. We have the wisdom of age on our side… and the fact that we adore each other in all the important ways.”

Topper chuckled and laid her head down on his chest. He was still inside her. She was happy with that. She was happy with him. It was probably the first time in her life that she had ever been really happy with a man.

“Tomorrow we’re going to talk about your Goddess’s portal orders.”

“It was really more of a request for your help. Icela said others needed to use it and that there was a higher purpose for keeping the connection between our planets open.”

Topper nodded against his chest. “Fine. We’ll talk to the Fates about it. I’m sure they’re in on whatever is going on. I wish you’d said it like that when you first told me.”

Stark snorted. “I would have, but ass braying is a very limited language.”

Topper’s laughing prompted him to roll her under him again. Making her scream his name in pleasure was the only sure way he knew to get his witch to take him seriously.

They stood in Gaia’s circle, surrounded by witches, as moonlight glinted off the sheer white robes they wore. Topper secretly thought Stark looked like a silver draped God, but she couldn’t say that to him in earshot of the Fates and whatever other higher powers might be in attendance. His hair, eyes, and clothing illuminated the night as much as the moon did. Nothing would stop her from enjoying the absolute radiance of the man who wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

They turned to the officiate Gaia had sent to conduct their ceremony. The woman was a true Druid, one of a rare few left in the world. She was marked with symbols from head to toe, her power from Gaia a true reflection of the mother of the Earth they all served.

“Stark—do you take the Earth Witch known as Topper to be your sacred wife? Will you be her constant friend, her partner in life, and her true love until you are no more? Will you love her without reservation, honor and respect her, protect her from harm? Will you comfort her in times of distress and grow with her in mind and spirit? And will you refrain from freezing her unconscious unless it is a matter of her life and death?”

Stark chuckled as Topper’s eyebrow lifted in challenge over what she had added to their vows. “Yes. I will gladly do all those things.”

“Topper—do you take the Glacieran warrior known as Stark to be your sacred husband? Will you be his constant friend, his partner in life, and his true love until you are no more? Will you love him without reservation, honor and respect him, protect him from harm, including that which you might be tempted to inflict yourself? Will you comfort him in times of distress and grow with him in mind and spirit? Will you swear never to turn him into any other creature on his planet or yours?”

“May Gaia help me,” Topper pleaded while she laughed. “Yes, I promise to do all those things.”

“Well spoken then. Those of us who have gathered to celebrate your union also celebrate the vows you have taken. By the power given to me by Mother Gaia, and with the blessing of the Goddess Icela of Glacier, I happily declare you to now be official husband and wife. May you have many blessings from your union.”

As Stark’s mouth sealed hers in relief and happy possession, Topper heard the entire town of Magic chanting “
Blessed Be
” in celebration around them.

Tomorrow she’d be turning sixty. She and Stark were headed to Alaska for their honeymoon. They were going dog sledding in a climate that she hoped would help Stark miss his home planet a little less. Her new husband was very excited about getting a chance to talk to the husky team. Yes… she had discovered Stark could talk to most animals, but it was dogs he liked best. Well, big dogs anyway. Lacey adored him. Frost was happy to have someone he knew nearby. Stark’s best magic had turned out to be the way he seemed to fit in so well.

It was going to be a lot of fun taking her new husband along on her future adventures. He was a good traveling companion. They still argued about his strange ideas about Earth, but she was going to enjoy setting him straight about such things.

Maybe he’d let her put some purple streaks in his hair to match hers. They would look like newlyweds for sure then. Topper’s mind spun out ways to talk Stark into it while she kissed him back.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After many years of doing everything for a living except writing books, I finally published my first romance novel in March of 2011. Thirty plus novels later, I am living my own happily ever after as a full time author.

I do my best to give back to the universe by hanging out to write at local coffee shops and helping keep them in business. When not at one of those, I am sitting in my office at a monstrous black desk I bought from my sister, which my husband lovingly refers to as my “table”.

My work spans several genres, such as romance, paranormal, and science fiction. Humor is the most common element across all my writing. Addicted to making readers laugh, I include a good dose of comedy in every book.
