About the Authors

Darlene Sweetland, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist with twenty years of experience specializing in work with children, adolescents, and young adults. She has served as head psychologist at a private school for students with learning disorders and clinical director for an agency for individuals with developmental disorders, and she currently maintains a private practice in Del Mar, California. As a child psychologist, she specializes in working with children and teens struggling with social, academic, and emotional challenges. She is established as a sought-after therapist and speaker in the areas of child and family therapy. Dr. Sweetland is the coauthor of
Intellectual Disability and Mental Health: A Training Manual in Dual Diagnosis
(2011), which has been a primary training guide in psychiatric hospitals and mental health agencies for professionals working with individuals who are dually diagnosed.

Ron Stolberg, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and an associate professor at Alliant International University in San Diego, California. As a family therapist, he specializes in working with children with acting-out behaviors and their families. He has authored numerous chapters published in seminal textbooks in psychology and contributed to a new book:
Therapeutic Assessment with the MMPI-2
(2011). A former psychologist for the hit reality TV show
Survivor
, he currently serves as the president of the board of directors at the Winston School for children struggling with learning disorders. Dr. Stolberg regularly presents at a wide variety of national and international conferences.

Dr. Sweetland and Dr. Stolberg have been married for sixteen years and have two sons. They live in San Diego. They, too, are facing the challenges of raising children in this generation.
