It
was a name which had subconsciously haunted Kate. Shamilar was Rust’s ex-girlfriend who had gotten herself pregnant to try to trap Rust into a commitment. He had made her lose the baby because she wasn’t a tiger shifter.

Kate remembered what she had heard:

H
e was furious with her. Furious because she tried to trap him
.

And now she was here again.
Shamilar. Beautiful. Dusky-skinned. And
slim
.

Gawd
, was she slim and beautiful! And now she was back.

Kate immediately felt unwieldy and fat compared to the model-like
Shamilar. Rust must have sensed it – bless him – because he put his arm around Kate again as if to say:
This is my girlfriend now
. Or maybe she was reading too much in it, as always.

Shamilar, this is Kate, my girlfriend. Kate, this is Shamilar.”

Girlfriend
. Kate’s cheeks warmed. So he was making a public claim on her now. This was great, except that Kate suspected that being Rust’s girlfriend came with a whole lot of problems.

Shamilar
raked Kate up and down, and Kate caught a fleeing look of disdain on her beautiful features.

I knew it. She doesn’t know what Rust sees in me
.

“Hello,”
Shamilar said, and the frostiness in her eyes matched the tone of her voice as she reluctantly held her hand out to Kate.

Kate took it.
Shamilar’s hand was very warm. Honestly, the woman was quite a conundrum.

“Hello,” Kate said.

Shamilar immediately turned to Rust. “I heard what happened.”

“As have half of New York,” he quipped.

Shamilar darted Kate another frosty look. “I see you brought her with you. Is that so wise?”

It’s really none of your business what I do or do not do, Shamilar. And Kate is right here. If you need to address her, you can speak directly to her.”

Kate’s spirits soared.
Shamilar looked none too pleased.

Now if you don’t mind, Kate and I have an engagement to go to. ” Rust touched Kate’s arm and made to lead her away.

“Rust, wait,”
Shamilar said, and Kate could hear the brokenness in her voice.
She still loves him
, Kate realized. A pang flowered in her chest.

“I need to ta
lk to you. Alone,” Shamilar continued.

Rust hesitated.

Kate swallowed the lump in her throat. But she knew that she couldn’t keep Rust from his past forever.

“It’s all right,” she said to Rust. “You go ahead and speak to her. I’ll be all right.”

“You sure?”

“Yes.” Her heart sank, because part of her was hoping that
he would say ‘No, I don’t need to talk to her. I’ll come with you’.

“OK,” he said.
“Just mingle, if you want to. I won’t be more than ten minutes.”

That was already ten minutes too long.
Still, Kate knew that she couldn’t pay the jealous, possessive girlfriend each time a woman made goggle eyes at Rust, and she suspected that was going to happen very often.

Rust left off
to go with Shamilar. His cock was still erect, and Kate watched jealously as they went behind a cluster of bushes. Two phenomenally attractive people, both naked, going off together in the dark. How was her mind supposed to react?

The waiter who was eyeing her came closer. He only wore a loincloth and a large golden chain around his neck with hoops. Kate was reminded of
how Carlo presented himself back in the restaurant – the event which triggered off everything else in a cosmic reaction.

“Would you like some champagne, Miss?” he asked solicitously.

“I would. Thank you.” She took a glass off his tray and gulped the golden liquid down.

“I wouldn’t worry so much about him, Miss.
One can see he only has eyes for you.”

She wished she could feel that confident.

“Thank you for saying that.” She replaced the empty glass on his tray with another. She was going to be drunk at this rate.

“You are very beautiful, Miss, if you don’t mind me saying so.”

She did not want to thank him one more time, and so she nodded politely and moved away. Her eyes lingered on the spot where Rust and Shamilar had vanished. She pictured him and Shamilar fucking on the soft ground, and her heart wrenched.

“Hi,” said someone from behind her.

She swiveled. She had almost forgotten her own nakedness by now. The speaker was a young man, around her age or maybe slightly older than her. He was curly haired and blond, and he looked positively cherubic.

“I couldn’t help noticing you,” the young man said.
“You’re new here. You’ve never been to one of these parties, have you?”

“No, this is my first time.”

She looked him up and down. She couldn’t help it. His body was entirely hairless. He had clearly shaved his pubic hair off and maybe a lot more than that. His cock was semi-turgid, and his balls were shorn and tight from the slight chill in the wind.

He held out his hand as though they were both fully dressed a
nd meeting for the first time at a normal party. “I’m Teddy.”

She took it. “I’m Kate.”

“Are you a shifter?”

“No. I’m human.”

Teddy grinned. “I could tell. It’s the way you carry yourself, not that it’s a bad thing.”

“Oh? How do I come across?” She felt socially awkward again.

“Like you don’t belong here. All the shifter women slink in like they own the place, though they obviously don’t. My father does.”

She almost gasped
out loud but stopped herself in time. “You’re Teddy Mitchell?”

“The one and only.
” He swept his arm around. “So how do you like my place?”

“It’s . . . grand.”

“I know. I saw you come in with
Rust O’Brien.”

“You know him?”

“I know of him. He’s hard to miss, and he’s quite the talk of town these days.” He grinned at her. “Are you mated to him?”

“I’m his girlfriend, yes.”

“That’s not the same thing. In human terms, mating is like marriage, only the bond is stronger. It’s hard to break a mating the way you can easily do a marriage.”

“OK, then
I’m not mated to him.” Not yet anyway, she told herself.

“You’re
fully human, aren’t you?”

And you’re awfully curious and chatty
, she wanted to say. But he was the son of her host and she had to be polite.

“Yes,” she said.

“Well, he can’t take a human mate,” Teddy said. “He’s a tiger shifter and he can only take another tiger. Genetics and breeding and all.”

“Thanks for telling me what I already know,” she said wryly.

Teddy put his hand on her arm.

“Just so you’d know,” he said, smiling, “I’m available.”

His manipulativeness made her recoil in disgust.

“No, thanks,
but I’m taken,” she said, moving away. What was it about her that attracted wayward shifters in the worse way possible?

Teddy’s face changed color.

“You know,” he spluttered, “you’re not that pretty. And you’re kind of fat.”

“But you still wanted me, Teddy, pretty or not,” she said, walking away before he could say anything more to sting her.
She tried not to reel from the blow.

But oh, all her insecurities were welling up now. What was she doing here, displaying herself when she clearly had inferior goods to display? She suddenly felt cold
and ugly, and she wrapped her arms around herself. She looked longingly back in the direction of the parking lot. Was Hector still there? Would he take her back to the hotel?

S
he wondered if Rust would be annoyed if he came back and found her missing.

Just as she was moving away, Rust reappeared,
Shamilar in tow. Kate tried not to look for signs of sexual play – blades of grass sticking to their bodies, Shamilar’s marvelous hair in disarray.

“Kate?” Rust came up to her. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she lied.

“Something’s wrong. Tell me.”

“Nothing. I-I don’t think I want to be here, Rust. I’m sorry. Can Hector take me home?”

His expression mirrored his concern. “
Hey,” he put his arms around her. “I didn’t fuck her, if that’s what you’re worried about. We just talked about the past. You don’t have anything to be worried about. I’m here with you, and that’s all that matters.”

“It’s not that. It’s something else.” Her frightened eyes strayed to Teddy, who was now talking to a group of nubile young women.

Rust caught her glance.

“Did he speak to you?” he demanded. “Said something to hurt you?”

She trembled. He was incredibly perceptive. Then she remembered he was both a psychiatrist and a psychologist, and a damned good one. But she didn’t want Rust to create a scene.

So she lied. “No.”

A gong somewhere clanged. The guests all looked up and chattered excitedly.

“Come,” Rust said, “it’s time for the
Ceilidh
, where the last shreds of our inhibitions are cast away and we can choose to be anything and anyone we wish to be.”

And I wish I was slim and beautiful like Shalimar
. Kate could not keep that unbidden thought from springing to her mind.

“It’ll be all right,” Rust assured her. And then he added fervently, “You are beautiful, and don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. You are beautiful to me and to every man here. Can you see how their eyes roam down your flesh?”

It was only the waiter and Teddy so far, but she was beginning to feel less uncertain. And she was so grateful to Rust for caring enough to reassure her. Whether or not they would be mated was arbitrary. She should revel in the attention of this man for as long as she caught his attention, and the future be damned.

“Then come.” Rust once again led her where everyone else was heading –
beyond the circle of stones.

She wondered what
psychological delights or tortures awaited her there.

The gardens beyond the circle of stones were even more richly decorated. The trees were decked with brightly colored lights, and the area was festooned with flowers. The air was redolent with their sweet smell, and the ground virtually tingled under Kate’s feet, as though a volcano was waiting to erupt beneath it.

There were scaffolds in the garden. Wooden beams ere
cted in various conflagrations, and which were affixed with iron hooks and ropes and pulleys. Bright lanterns shone onto them, lighting them up. Kate’s chest chilled when she observed some of the guests taking their places at these scaffolds, which she now realized were bondage racks.

Rust’s arms circled around her waist.

“I want to tie you up to one of those, Kate,” he murmured in her ear. “It’s going to be a whole new level of pleasure for you to experience.”

“I don’t know about that,” she said, frightened. No, scratch that. She was terrified. She wasn’t sure
that she was ready for such a public display.

“Don’t be scared. I’m right here with you. And you don’t hav
e to worry about a thing. Do you trust me?”

She gazed into his beautiful green eyes.

“Yes,” she said, although her heart was throbbing.

He led her to an unoccupied
rack. It was a horizontal beam mounted on two vertical ones, which were further stabilized by triangular legs. Suspended from the horizontal beam was a harness. Around them, some of the guests were beginning to shift into their animal selves – wolves and panthers and foxes, even a bear. A tremor passed through Kate. Their eyes were hungry as they surveyed the veritable landscape.

She was the only non-shifter here, she reckoned. Would they take it in mind to devour her?

Rust took off her bikini bottom, but left on her top. He helped her into the harness. It was actually a set of leather bonds and pulleys, designed to display her body in the most open way possible. When he had finished tying her up, her wrists were suspended from the top like a prisoner, and her thighs were splayed wide open – held up by two slings.

Her wet, glistening pussy
was nicely exhibited. Her engorged clit was very prominent in her nether mound. Her vagina was a leaking water tap above the wet hole of her anus.

Rust surveyed her. The lust was very
obvious in his eyes. Her pussy was at the level of his cock, which was pointing straight at her. He began to stroke her – massage her breasts and her nipples to get her aroused. He rubbed his thumbs and fingers down her sides and belly and hips. His ministrations were insistent, measured.
