, the existence of God, and many other topics. His questioning of some traditional RC doctrines in his

On Being a Christian
(1974; Eng. 1977) led to the intervention of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome. In 1979 it was announced that he could no longer teach officially as a Catholic theologian.
