in Japanese religion (usually Buddhist) who completes the practice of standing naked for a thousand days beneath the Nachi falls, near Katsu-ura. The falls drop in a narrow band of water for about 130 m. At the base of the falls is the Hir

(Flying Dragon) shrine. The Nachi shrine is above the falls, an ancient site, but the present buildings are recent (1848).
