n at Isma‘iliyya. He attracted wide support for the Ikhw
n among all classes. He believed that the sickness of Egyptian Islamic society could be cured ‘only by a return to the regenerative springs of the
Qur’
n
and the
ad
th
’. Increasing tension between him and the government culminated in his assassination in 1949.
