Four Months Later

“Is this the last of them?” Steve groaned as he dropped down the cardboard box in the center of Dalton’s apartment.

“I think so,” Dalton glanced at the box and then at Lucie who was busy unpacking a different box.

“Babe, any more boxes down there?”

“No,” Lucie shook her head of golden hair. “That’s the last of them.”

“Thank God,” Steve sighed as he stretched. “You’ve worked us harder than we ever do at the gym!”

“Sorry,” Lucie smiled.

“I appreciate the help, old man,” Dalton clapped Steve on the back and grinned.

“Old man,” Steve shook his head and grumbled, but he was also smiling. “There’s nothing old about me.”

Lucie was standing before the large windows in the apartment, cupping a fresh mug of tea between her hands. The sun was setting, burning the sky in a shadow of deep red and orange and making the city appear even more beautiful than normal.

“Think you can get used to this view?” Dalton asked as he came up behind Lucie and looped an arm around her waist.

“I reckon I can,” Lucie titled her head to smile at him. “I’m not sure about that though,” she glanced back at the windows, pointing to a nearby building which boasted a ten-foot poster of Dalton posing in designer underwear.

“That’s the best view in the entire city,” Dalton teased. “You should be grateful for it.”

“Yes, but I don’t need the poster when I’ve got the real thing,” Lucie grinned as Dalton’s grip around her tightened.

“You’re going to love living here,” he whispered into her ear, his breath tickling against her neck.

“You sound very certain of that.”

“I mean, think of the benefits,” Dalton spun her around so that she was facing him. “You’ve got a shorter commute to work, elevators that work.”

“True,” Lucie nodded thoughtfully. “But my roommate is kind of a sex pest!”

“Sex pest!” Dalton cried in fake dismay, lifting Lucie up in his strong arms.

“Hey, watch it!” she warned as she clung to her mug of tea. Dalton carried her towards the kitchen area so that she could safely place it down.

“Besides, I’m not a roommate,” Dalton clarified. “I’m your fiancé.”

“Oh yeah,” Lucie playfully kissed him on the lips and then raised a hand to admire the giant diamond which resided upon it. “So you are.”

She kissed him again but this time the kiss lingered. Dalton dropped her from his embrace as Lucie pressed her body against him. She sexily bit her lip and reached for the zipper on his jeans.

“Wait,” Dalton gripped her shoulders, holding her back. He suddenly looked anxious. “Is anything cooking?” he asked.

Lucie’s sharp laughter bounced around the room. “My apartment smelled like burned bacon for days!” she recalled fondly.

“We’ll have none of that now you’re living here!” Dalton told her playfully.

“I reckon I can burn a few dishes, break the kitchen in,” Lucie teased. But then any further words were stolen from her when Dalton started passionately kissing her, his hands tracing a line up her back and then tangling up in her hair.

Lucie kissed him back hard. Whenever she was with Dalton she wanted time to stand still so that she could cherish the moment forever.

“I love you,” Dalton murmured as their lips briefly parted.

“I love you too,” Lucie told him sincerely, cementing the declaration with a firm kiss.

“Just ten months until you’re Mrs. Dalton Hughes,” he purred the words to her as she pulled down his jeans.

“I can’t wait,” Lucie replied breathlessly.

“It will be the best day of my life,” Dalton enthused.

“It will be the second best of mine,” Lucie admitted.

“Second?” Dalton frowned and stepped back from her, looking hurt. Lucie expertly wound herself back into his embrace, smiling seductively.

“Yes, second,” she confirmed. “Because the best day of my life was the day you saved me in that parking garage. That was the day I fell in love with you and my whole world got turned upside down.”

They kissed again as the sun set behind them, leaving the city sprawled out beneath them dark, glittering and beautiful.

In Love With a Haunted House

The last thing Mallory Clark wants to do is move back home. She has no choice, though, since the company she worked for in Chicago has just downsized her, and everybody else. To make matters worse her fiancé has broken their engagement, and her heart, leaving her hurting and scarred. When her mother tells her that the house she always coveted as a child, the once-famed Gray Oaks Manor, is not only on the market but selling for a song, it seems to Mallory that the best thing she could possibly do would be to put Chicago, and everything and everyone in it, behind her. Arriving back home she runs into gorgeous and mysterious Blake Hunter. Blake is new to town and like her he is interested in buying the crumbling old Victorian on the edge of the historic downtown center, although his reasons are his own. Blake is instantly intrigued by the flame-haired beauty with the fiery temper and the vulnerable expression in her eyes. He can feel the attraction between them and knows it is mutual, but he also knows that the last thing on earth he needs is to get involved with a woman determined to take away a house he has to have.

About Kate Goldman

In childhood I observed a huge love between my mother and father and promised myself that one day I would meet a man whom I would fall in love with head over heels. At the age of 16, I wrote my first romance story that was published in a student magazine and was read by my entire neighborhood. I enjoy writing romance stories that readers can turn into captivating imaginary movies where characters fall in love, overcome difficult obstacles, and participate in best adventures of their lives. Most of the time you can find me reading a great fiction book in a cozy armchair, writing a romance story in a hammock near the ocean, or traveling around the world with my beloved husband.
