Shiphra looked at Corinth with a confused look and
asked, “Then what is this all about?”

That is on a need to know basis
and you do not need to know. The only thing you should be thinking
about are the names of those individuals which I desire to
hear.”

I am not giving you any information,” yelled
Shiphra.

I figured as much,” replied Corinth with a
calm tone.

With a simple thought, Corinth reduced the inhibiter
field by twenty five percent. Shiphra slowly lost her ability to
move from the shoulders down, to include her hands and arms.

What is this going to
accomplish? So what, I cannot move. You know you can only keep me
here so long,” said Shiphra as she felt herself lose control of her
faculties.

Not entirely true. I know you
are leaving for Earth in a month or so. Granted, I do not know how
you intend to get there, nor do I honestly care. You already told
most of your friends you are leaving, but you did not give
specifics on where you were going. So, for all they know you are
just another one of those extremists who committed suicide,” said
Corinth as she circled Shiphra slowly.

Are you telling me your plan is to keep me
locked up in here until I talk?”

I do not care if you talk, I
think I am just going to kill you.”

Shiphra who now felt a wave of anxiety flow through
her replied, “You are insane, you know that right?”

Am I really that insane? I
am not the one who chooses to take millions of years of tradition
and throw them out because I want to feel what its like to ‘live.’
Everyone on this planet has all the freedom he or she needs. They
can even take their own lives with proper notice. Nevertheless,
that is not enough. They also want to live like a humanoid and
intermingle field programs as if they were some type of mixed
drink. I am all for diversity, I live for diversity, but we need to
be responsible. How many plant and animal species have we seen that
were introduced into foreign environments causing devastation
because the life forms there did not have the defenses needed to
survive? Your little movement fails to consider this. You cannot
open up the floodgates and let everything go. There will always be
a dominant species that will take over all in its path. It is our
responsibility as
Tureissians to maintain
the checks and balances of our planet and those that we harvest,”
preached Corinth.

Shiphra soon realized Corinth was
set in her ways, decided to forgo a debate, and resorted to
sarcasm, “Wow, did you stay up all night thinking up that little
speech? I am impressed.”

Do you know what it is like when your vital
organs slowly shut down, I am thinking you do not, so I am going to
show you,” said Corinth who now had lost all sense of
reason.

Wait Corinth, are you serious?”

You really have no idea, what a
shame.”

As Corinth slowly powered down
the rest of the inhibitor field, Shiphra started to feel the
remaining parts of her body go limp, and the upper half of her
torso slumped over. “You are pathetic Corinth. Go ahead, kill me,
it will not accomplish a thing.”

As Shiphra cried out Corinth just
stood there with a blank stare as she communicated with Shiphra
telepathically, “I know you can still hear me Shiphra and that you
are going through an extraordinary amount of pain. You see, I made
sure your pain receptors and brain were the last items to shut
down. Now you will know the true reason why a ban was placed on
the
paralysim energy crystal. I can hear
your silent cries. The fact that you can do nothing brings me the
greatest pleasure. Look at it this way; you will now experience
death, and the agony that comes with it. Now die slowly you
pathetic scum!” As the torture progressed, small teardrops formed
at the corners of Shiphra’s eyes, as she experienced indescribable
amounts of pain.

Corinth continued with
excitement, “You see the paralysim energy crystal was not banned
for rendering its victims motionless. It had to do with its ability
to take a humanoid cell and expand it just to the point of it
bursting. Very similar to that popular snack food your favored
Earthlings love to eat, what is it that called? Ah, yes, popcorn.
Here we go, this is the point when those cells start popping. Allow
me to explain,” said Corinth jokingly. “You see normal cells have a
very thin membrane, which allow certain elements, like oxygen,
water, carbon dioxide, and glucose to pass through. This membrane
also prevents others items like starch proteins and sucrose from
entering. Well due to this nifty little energy crystal its all
changing because the crystal allows everything to enter your cells,
resulting in their explosion. Goodbye Shiphra, it certainly was not
a pleasure knowing you.”

As every cell in Shiphra’s body
started to rupture, she started to swell up causing her eyes, ears,
and mouth to expel large volumes of bodily fluids, which led into a
massive seizure. As soon as Corinth noticed there was no turning
back she released the field allowing Shiphra’s body to lock up
further until it gave way and fell to the floor. Shiphra sent out
one last mental communication, before she died, and directed it
specifically towards Corinth, “You are such a fool, but thanks for
helping me get to Earth.”

Chapter 18

I’m Innocent

It had been over thirteen hours
since Reece had been expelled from the operation lab, as he sat in
a holding room, in an undisclosed location. He reviewed every
encounter Jade had with Adam, in order to try and figure out if
there was anything she might have done which could have compromised
Adam’s security. Reece knew for a fact Jade was unable to hack the
encryption within Adam. “How in the world did this happen?” thought
Reece. While he tried to comprehend the problem, a voice came over
the internal addressing system inside his holding
facility.

I hope the accommodations are comfortable Dr.
Fields,” stated a voice.

Reece jumped to his feet and
said, “Comfortable! No, they’re not. I’ve been held here for hours.
I demand to know what is going on. I think I’ve been very
cooperative, but if you continue to hold me I will ask for
counsel.”

I understand your frustration. First, our
apologies, we have been very busy trying to figure all this out,
and currently our resources are spread thin. I do have some good
news, Adam has made it out of surgery and is stable,” replied the
voice.

That’s great news. Have we figured out how
Adam’s matrix was getting accessed illegally?”

No, but hopefully you can help us with that
very issue.”

Most certainly anything I can do
I will, I just want answers like everyone else and I just want to
make sure Adam is safe from harm.”

That is what we like to hear.
Please have a seat. We will be meeting with you in a few
minutes.”

Will do,” complied Reece.

The individual who spoke to Reece
walked away from the communication holoscreen, and walked up to the
technician who had been monitoring Reece’s thought
patterns.

The technician explained, “Every
thought Dr. Fields has had since he’s been here was either trying
to figure out who hacked Adam, what was Adam’s current status, or
how it was impossible for Jade to execute these hacks. According to
the readings, there is no question; Dr. Fields’ thoughts confirm
that Jade had nothing to do with Adam being accessed unlawfully.
There have been no indications whatsoever that Dr. Fields committed
a virtual trespass on Adam’s matrix. We also confirmed, by
reviewing Dr. Fields’ logs from earlier today, that he did indeed
find the hack.”

What about the times when Dr.
Fields disabled the recordings between Adam and Jade by creating a
dampening field with Jade’s PIC, while they were in contact with
each other in his lab. Or when he illegally accessed the security
droid’s program so it would not record live conversations between
the two?”

According to Dr. Fields’ memory
patterns, he didn’t want this encounter recorded because Jade was
confiding in Adam in regards to her father’s death. Dr. Fields felt
this was an extremely personal moment and did not want others to
witness these talks,” explained the technician.

Interesting, does Dr. Fields suspect we are
monitoring his memory and thought patterns now?”

Not at all, but he is aware this
technology exists. Jade’s psychologist has been using it on Jade
for sometime now. However, Dr. Field doesn’t know we have the
technology to access this information wirelessly.”

Could Dr. Fields be giving false
readings?”

I don’t see how that’s possible. In my
professional opinion he is in fact telling the truth.”

Ok, send in a general
investigator, have them ask the standard questions on security
breaches while adding a little pressure and disbelief. Once he is
finished with his interview, have the investigator ask Dr. Fields
if he wants to take a Memory and Thought (M.T.) scan. I am sure Dr.
Fields will say yes, perform the M.T. scan, and release him.
Understand?”

Yes sir.”

Also during the M.T. scan I want you to place
this chip inside Dr. Fields PIC.”

A small silver chip, the size of a pinhead, was
turned over to the obedient technician by a secondary
assistant.

Now, what about Dr. Petrov?”

I can’t answer that sir, for
some reason I was unable to do an offsite M.T. scan on him and
don’t know why. I recommend we place him in a confined area similar
to Dr. Fields and have me conduct the scan in a controlled
environment.”

That will not be necessary; I
will take care of Dr. Petrov personally. I want you to wipe all the
work you conducted on Dr. Fields and Dr. Petrov. Also, make sure
you do not record any conversations that the investigator has with
Dr. Fields. When he has completed his mock interview, destroy
everything.”

Yes sir.”

As for me, I was never
here.”

Yes sir.”

The individual who was speaking
with the technician left the lab as the technician commenced his
new orders immediately.

A few buildings down from the
facility that held Reece stood the building containing Dr. Telmar
Petrov’s office. This structure was the headquarters for all of the
company’s electronic security. It was the smallest building on the
grounds, at seventy yards in length, and had a unique shape. The
lowest end was three stories while the highest was nine. The
exterior of the wedge shaped building was made of ocean blue
one-way glass intertwined with white beams of different widths and
angles all flushed with the windows, which beautifully made up the
skeleton of the building. There were two entrances one on the
shorter side used by guests and one on the opposite side used by
employees. The surgery for Adam had just ended and Telmar was on
his way back to his building. Since he was the head of this
division, Telmar had the nicest and most secure office, so he
thought. As he walked past his secretary, he gave her a slight
smile, a small nod, and told her he did not want any interruptions.
The internal security immediately cleared his identity and the
entrance to his office opened vertically. Upon entry, the internal
lights did not turn on, and the self-tinted windows blocked all
natural light from coming inside.

Lights,” barked Telmar, but
nothing happened. Telmar turned around and headed towards the exit,
and subsequently realized the closed door and its inability to
open.

What the heck is going on? HICAMS are you
online?” There was no response. Telmar pulled out a small LED
flashlight, removed the exterior panel, near the entrance, and
tried to activate the override switch.

Do not bother. I disabled it as
well Telmar Petrov,” said a voice within the room.

Telmar jumped, turned around, and
asked, “Who said that? Who is here? If you are the reason why
nothing is working I suggest you turn the lights on or I
will…”

You will what? Telmar you are of
feeble mind! Your tiny threats will not work with me.”

Who are you?” Telmar started to scan his
office with his small LED flashlight, but was unable to see
anyone.

Please, you are not going to find me, lights
on,” called out the voice.

As the lights came back on, Telmar looked over at
his crescent birds eye maple desk and said, “Oh my God.”

Perhaps. You have been on this planet too
long if you are starting to use religious references in your
speech,” replied the tall muscular humanoid sitting at Telmar’s
desk.

Sorry, I did not know you were on this
planet.”

Use my name, stop with those
ridiculous Earth pleasantries.”

Yes, sorry Zaccai.”

Much better. Now have a seat, so
we can talk.”

Telmar pulled up one of the
chairs specifically used for his visitors and sat.

It is a pleasure to see you
Zaccai.”
