“Mr. Prescott, it was all an entirely new experience for me, an experience that I do not intend to repeat. Does that answer your question?”

I sighed. “I guess it has to.”

His smile began to return. “I do assure you, Mr. Prescott, that I am not a man of violence.”

“Luncheon is served, Michael,” said Miss Malandra.

She gave me a lovely smile as we went in, a smile full of sympathy and understanding.

It was some consolation, and I must say the lunch was excellent.

The Turkish police, however, discover the arms and he is further ‘blackmailed’ by them into spying on the ‘gang’ - or rot in a Turkish jail. However, agreeing to help brings even worse danger ....

Rumours abound, and most appear to suggest Flavius is on the verge of engineering yet another of his sensational financial coups. Embarkation is set for Cannes, but that is where the trouble begins. Shock after shock follows a strange encounter Barnes has with a girl in a dingy cafe. Murder and kidnapping follow, along with a dangerous chase which brings the Sûreté Nationale into swift action.
