“Oh, so you don't want to see me?” He asks.

“Well your wife is going to be with you so I don't think I'm going to get to see much of you,” I answer, not rally paying attention to him because I'm still trying to get my phone to stand up on it's own, but it keeps falling over.

“I'm sure I could get away from her for a couple hours to see you,” I can hear him smiling, and I finally got my phone to stand up.

“Yeah, for some reason that doesn't sound very appealing to me,” I say sarcastically.

“Why not? I know you want to see me,” He sounds so cocky, and I don't really like that.

“It would be nice to maybe see you, but not like that, Jake, don't be stupid,” I roll my eyes.

“Fine, you won't get to see me then,” He pretends to pout.

“Are you going to bring Leia?” I ask.

              “Probably, why?” He wonders.

“Oh, because I definitely want to see her, just not you,” I smile.

“Wow! You only care about my dog, don't you?” He chuckles.

“Exactly! Congrats for finally catching on, she's the only reason I'm talking to you,” I say.

“Would you want to watch her for a night then for me?” He asks.

“No, are you kidding? My dogs don't do well with bigger dogs,” I say, and that's not a lie. Not only do I not want to watch his dog for him no matter how much I like her, but my two little chihuahuas don't react well to having their space invaded by another dog, let alone a bigger one.

“Fine, but I was thinking I could bring her over, and be alone and get to see you,” He suggests.

“No thanks, that still doesn't really appeal to me,” I say.

“Fine, so how was hanging out with Julia and Avery?” He asks.

“Good, it's amazing how big Avery has gotten so fast, she actually says words and stuff now!” It says silly to say that, but it's true. It feels like just last month she was born.

“Words and stuff? You'd think she's an actual human!” He says sarcastically.

“Shut up you wouldn't understand,” I shake my head.

              “You're right I wouldn't understand because I'm not a freak,” He jokes.

“No, you wouldn't understand because you have no soul!” I say.

“Actually, I do have a soul, you are the ginger with no soul,” He knows how to press my buttons.

“I'm not a ginger I'm a redhead, there is a difference and you know this,” I correct him.

              “Whatever,” He blows me off.

“Oh, I wanted to ask, what did you friend say to you earlier when you FaceTimed me?” I ask.

“Oh, he asked if I was talking to Amy, and I said no, and he asked if I was cheating on her with you,” He chuckles. I want to make a comment like “Well aren't you?” but I decide to hold back. It's probably better that I don't say that.

              “Ah, I see,” I say.

“Yeah, so I think that we're coming out there on my birthday,” He says randomly.

“So what day is that again? The fifteenth right?” I joke. I know his birthday is the 19
th
, and he gets so butt hurt when people don't remember his birthday I find it funny.

“Hah, yeah and yours is February 19
th
right?” He jokes right back.

              “Yes exactly,” I smile.

“You know, this may sound weird so don't judge me, but I always thought of you on February 23
rd
and October 30
th
,” He has a more serious look on his face. October 30
th
was our anniversary which is funny because since we started talking in like August, he actually sent me a message on October 30
th
saying “Happy would've been 5 years” which actually made me laugh a lot harder than I should've.

“Yeah, I thought of you on your birthday and October 30
th
too,” I wish I could say I was lying, but I wasn't.

We talk for a little while longer until he can barely keep his eyes open around ten, and I tell him to go to sleep, and he doesn't fight it. He says he'll talk to me tomorrow. I agree before we hang up. I don't know why I like talking to him so much I just do, and know nothing good can come of this, but I can't stop

Chapter 3

I went to work the next day, and texted Jake whenever he could. I decided to tell my coworkers about what him and I talked about, and they were all less than supportive of the whole situation, which I understand. Like Julia they all just want to look out for me, but I couldn't hide this from them. It's very interesting being stuck in a room with the same people for so many hours at a time it's hard to keep anything private because if we did it would just be a super awkward room with no conversations happening, and we like to keep it interesting. Now apparently it is my turn to keep it interesting with all my love life drama. A few ask about Bryan and what is happening with him, but I explain how I haven't talked to him in over a week, and he hasn't even tried to to talk to me, and I'm the one who last tried to reach out os I don't know what more he expects me to do, so I do nothing.

Jake explains to me that we won't be able to FaceTime tonight because Amy doesn't work late, and I know it shouldn't disappoint me as much as it does. I really do like talking to him, but I guess texting will have to do. When he is heading home he tries to call me, but I'm work so I tell him I can't talk I'm at work still.

“Okay well I'm almost home so text me something normal so we can keep talking or snap chat me if it would be bad if a certain someone found out:)”
He says, and that phrase makes this seem so real of how bad our conversations can be. But at least I can still sort of talk to him.

I finish up my last dog, and clean up my station my conversations with Jake are pretty boring, giving each other more shit than usual, but I like to think of it as an act I just hope he is thinking the same. He hasn't replied in awhile, and I'm cleaning up a few kennels in the back before I get to leave, and my phone vibrates in my pocket with a text from him, and this one takes me back a little.

“So I guess I'm coming to Arizona by myself will you pick me up form the airport?”
he asks, and I'm shocked. What happened in the past hour that made that happen?

“Uh...sure? Why?”
I question.

“Amy and I got in a fight and she isn't coming anymore which I'm fine with because then I actually get to see you:)”
Whoa, was this fight about me? I'm almost scared to ask.

“What was the fight about?”
I ask nervously. I see he read my message, and that he starts typing, but it is taking awhile so this is probably going to be a long message. I put my phone back into my pocket, and continue to clean kennels until I feel my phone vibrate again, and I was right it is a long message.

“She's always on my case about money, and says that I spend too much and that we need to save all the fucking time which I get, but I am saving. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and she's mad because we don't make as much as she would like and she gets mad at me for spending any of the money that I earn which also pays for rent and almost everything else in this fucking house, and her money is just for her and I'm sick of it so we got in a fight about it and I called her spoiled, and she told me to have fun going to Arizona by myself and I said I would so I just bought  plane ticket I'll get there on my birthday at 11:30 is that okay?”
That was a lot to take in I'm not even sure how to respond at first. I don't want to say I'm happy that they are fighting, but I kind of am. I feel like a horrible person, but I also know how to avoid situations like that.

“Wow I'm sorry, yeah I'll pick you up from the airport that day,”
I say because I'm really not sure what else I can see.

“Thank you, I'm going back inside now so I'll talk to you tomorrow,”
He says.

“Okay. Night,”
Again I'm not really sure what else to say so I keep it simple. I'm still in a bit of shock at how much he opened up to me, but there is also some excitement that comes over me thinking about how he's coming here, and that I'm going to get to see him in person for the first time in 3 years. I finish cleaning up at work, and head home trying to hide my smile that is trying to peak through.

I drive home, and once I get there I change out of my work uniform into more comfy clothes, and climb right into bed. I think about everything. I look at my white board calender I have hanging on my wall, and I see that he will be here in 2 weeks exactly, and I can't wait.

I wake up the next morning from my alarm once again signaling that I have to go to work again. Luckily, today I don't work until 9 which is much better than 7. I'm a little disappointed that I don't have a text from Jake, but I understand because it is Saturday, and he doesn't have work so he should get to sleep in since its one of the few days that he actually gets to. I get ready for work a little early so I can stop by Starbucks on my way to grab a drink before I go in.

Once I arrive everything is in full force, everyone has their dogs on their table, or washing them in the back. It isn't even half of how busy it is going to get around noon when everyone comes in for walk ins, which we really wouldn't mind doing except for the fact that it disrupts our grooming of other dogs that we only have limited time to finish anyway, but people don't seem to understand this. However, we have to go by the philosophy that the customer is always right so I put on a smile and start my day.

I tell everyone how Jake is coming to visit and that he wants me to pick him up from the airport, and of course everyone jumps on my case about it, and they ask if I'm going to hang out with him while he's here, what we are going to do, jokingly calling me a home wrecker. I laugh because I haven't wrecked any homes, but I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that if I tell him.

The day goes by quickly as Saturday's usually do, and soon enough I'm done with all my dogs and heading home for the day. I hadn't heard from Jake all day, and I was beginning to get a little concerned until on my drive home I get a snap chat from him. It's a message.
“Hey, sorry I haven't talked to you all day Amy wanted to spend the day together since we both had it off, but I haven't forgotten about you, and I'm excited to see you:)”
I realize why he sent that through snap chat instead of text now.

Once I reach a stop light I quickly reply, “
It's okay I understand just text me when you get a chance, and then you can tell me why you're so excited to see me:)”
I flirt back to him.

“I'll let you know tomorrow;) Goodnight”
He says, and I don't bother to reply knowing he is probably around Amy.

I get home, and go to my calender and draw a heart on the 19
th
I don't want to admit how excited I actually am for that day to come around.               I get into bed and text Julia
“So Jake is going to be here on the 19th”
I say because I know she will be excited and or nervous for me because she wants me happy, but also wants to look out for me which I totally understand because I feel the same with her, even though I love her and her fiance together. They may have their issues, but at the end of the day they really do love each other. It also hasn't helped with Julia being pregnant and everything, the hormones have started to go a little crazy on her end so her fiance, Blake, and I just kind of have to endure it for the next few months. It doesn't take long before I see she replied
“Oh my god really? Is his wife coming too?”
I laugh as I type out my response.

“Originally she was, but they got in a fight and she isn't anymore so I'm picking him up from the airport.”

“Scandalous! Well the four of us need to hang out and see a movie or something”

              “Don't make it weird Julia!”

“I'm not making it weird I just want to hang out with him and find out what his intentions with you are(:”

I smile. That is Julia, always has a reason when I can see that is not the real reason she initially meant.

“I'll ask if he wants to then:P”
I set my phone down and go downstairs to grab something to eat. My dogs both jump off my bed to follow me, I swear they both are my little shadows.

I look in the fridge and we barely have anything in this house as usual. I look in the freezer and see the frozen fruit so I decide to just make a smoothie because I really don't feel like going to the store, maybe I will tomorrow after work.

I take my smoothie up to my room and put on a movie. Sometime in the middle of the movie I fall asleep which has gotten easier and easier to do being to busy at work it wears me out.

Sunday is a little slower at work, we don't have as many walk ins which is pretty nice. It's also another day that Jake hasn't talked to me, I wonder if she gets the weekends off on purpose to spend time with him. Gag me. I feel like such a bitch for thinking that, but it's true, people need space sometimes, of course the space she does give him he uses to talk to me...whoops.
