The next few weeks were long for Angelina and Dominic, but they stood together by Renni’s side as he gave compelling evidence against Barty Eastburn. The prosecuting attorney was willing to let Renni off with a reduced sentence of 180 days in jail.

Dominic offered to try to get him off without any jail time, but Renni said that he wanted to take care of this problem on his own. He was tired of having other people rescue him.

“I’m impressed with your brother,” Dominic said as they were on his corporate jet heading back to Milan from London.

“Impressed?”

“That he took responsibility for his action. And that he did it for you.”

“I know. He wanted to prove to me that he could take care of his own problems.”

“Now that your brother is taken care of, you are free of obligations,” he said.

“Yes, I am. Why?”

“I have a new task for you.”

“Really? What is it?”

“Planning your dream wedding.”

“I don’t have one. I never thought I’d marry.”

“Well, you and I are getting married, and I want the day to be perfect for you.”

“As long as you are by my side, it will be,” she said.

ake Como sparkled in the midafternoon sun and the wedding guests milled around the grounds enjoying the festive mood that filled the air. Dominic smiled at his bride across the crowded dance floor. She was currently dancing with his father.
“I can’t believe you tied the knot,” Antonio said.

“Me either. I think we finally broke the Moretti curse. Now we have a real legacy to leave to our children.”

“Children?” Marco asked coming up behind them. Little Enzo smiled up at Dominic from his father’s arms. “Are Nathalie and Angelina expecting?”

“Angelina isn’t yet, but we do have a month-long honeymoon planned,” he said.

“Nathalie isn’t either,” Antonio said. “Where are you going? You two have been quiet about the location.”

“I bought a house for Angelina in the countryside. Just thirty minutes out of Milan, but I think she’ll like it. We are going to go there for the month and settle in. See if it’s the kind of place that she’s always dreamed of living in.”

“Will you be happy there?” Antonio asked. “The commute into Moretti Motors will be long and tedious.”

Dominic shrugged. He didn’t mind the drive as long as Angelina was happy. She was his life now, not the car company, and with the curse broken he knew they would be happy for the rest of their days. Because he had unraveled the true power of the curse and knew that it had to lie within his own soul.

“You are staring at your bride like a lovesick fool,” Marco said.

“I learned the look from you,” he said.

“I happen to look very sexy when I stare at my wife,” Marco replied.

“Who told you that?” Antonio asked.

“She did,” Marco said.

The band switched to an old Nat King Cole song, “Stardust,” and Angelina walked toward him. Dominic met her halfway. He pulled her into his arms and danced with her.

“I love you,” he said, needing to tell her as often as he could. She’d made his life so complete.

“I love you, too,” she said, rising on her tiptoes to kiss him. He kissed her back and then hugged her close. Over her head she saw his parents dancing, their love shining as it always had. And Dominic realized he wanted that for Angelina and himself. Some day, twenty years or so from now, he wanted to dance with her at their child’s wedding and still feel as in love with her as he did today.

“What are you thinking?” she asked.

“That you broke the Moretti curse.”

“I’m glad I did. I can’t imagine life without you.”
