“Mothafuckas kill me,” he mumbled to himself as he opened his laptop and slowly spun around in his black highback leather chair.

“I need to see my baby,” he thought as he opened up his Xenia folder and studied their most recent photos together. Saint licked his lips and smiled as he clicked through them. “I love her in this photo,” he said as he looked at the two of them embracing at the Hibachi Grille, the fire so close to their bodies it illuminated her face. He opened another one, staring at her wearing a white bikini in a swimming pool. She was waving, smiling wide, but refused to go under the water. “I wonder if she’s off work yet. Her schedule is messed up this week.”

He picked up the phone. “Hey, Baby,” Saint said as he leaned back in his chair. “I was thinking about you and had a moment before I go out of town.” He put his arm behind his head and swiveled around.

Xenia
coughed and rubbed her nose, “I’m good, Baby,” she said, as she pulled the sheets tighter over her shivering body.

Saint sat up in his chair. “Why didn’t you tell me you were sick? I can’t believe this. You aren’t at work, are you?”

Xenia
sneezed, “I knew you were busy. You’re in the middle of a conference this week. It’s no big deal. I’m OK.” She coughed roughly and stuffed a tissue in one nostril.

“I just spoke to you last night, and you didn’t sound like this. You must’ve been sick then, too.”

“I think I was in denial. It hit me real hard after we got off the phone. Plus, I’m on my damn period, so I thought maybe I just wasn’t feeling well from that.” Xenia coughed again.

“You need someone to take care of you,” Saint said as he pulled his schedule up on his laptop.

“No, I’m fine.” She coughed again. “I just need to stay in. It’s just a little cold. I’ll be fine, really.”

“OK, Baby, well I’m going to let you get some rest. I’ll call you later and check on you.”

“OK, Honey – kisses,” she said as she hung up.

Saint left his office abruptly with his laptop tucked under his arm, closing the door behind him. He walked to the front door where his luggage was packed and ready for the second leg of his latest conference.

Five hours later…

Xenia
lie in the bed, chuckling hoarsely at her television. “Chris Tucker is a fool. I wish they’d make another ‘Friday,’” she said. She continued to laugh, rewinding to the previous scene and laughing all over again.

“What the hell is that?” Xenia muted her TV, then rose from her white canopy bed and walked to the window. She heard her doorbell ring, but still couldn’t see anything. She quickly put on her short, fluffy, teal robe and slid on her matching fuzzy house shoes. She made her way down the steps, rubbing her eyes. She looked out the peep hole. Saint stood there with his luggage, a bouquet of roses, a drug store sack, and a balled-up paper bag.

“Oh, my God!” she exclaimed, coughing as she swung her door open. Saint turned towards her, grabbed his suitcase, and stepped inside. Before he could even say anything, Xenia jumped on him, making the items in his hands drop to the floor.

“Hello, Mrs. Aknaten. You didn’t really think I was going to let my baby just sit here sick, did you?” Saint closed the door behind him with his free hand and held her with the other.

Xenia
put her hands up to her cheeks, “I can’t believe you’re here!”

Saint looked her up and down, “Yeah, and I want you to go back upstairs and crawl into bed. I’ll be up in a minute.” He kissed her cheek and patted her on the behind as she walked back up the steps. Saint walked back to her kitchen, taking out the soup he had picked up. He found a large tray in one of her cabinets and placed a bottle of cough medicine, a new box of tissues, and a bottle of NyQuil on it. He warmed up the soup in her microwave, then placed it on the tray as well. He opened her freezer and grabbed a few ice cubes, placing them in one of her glasses. He then poured the small bottle of orange juice he had picked up over them. He removed his jacket and laid it across her kitchen chair. He picked up the tray and carefully made his way up the steps. Saint smiled as he nudged her bedroom door open with his shoulder. He looked down at her as she watched the television. Her covers were pulled up around her. He loved how she looked without make-up. She even looked beautiful when sick. Her hair was pulled up in a big, curly afro puff. Her bare leg stuck out from the side of the sheet while her left ring finger showcased her sparkling wedding band and engagement ring.

“Oh, Baby, you didn’t have to do all of this. I feel so bad that you left your conference,” Xenia said as she grabbed another tissue and blew her nose.

“Don’t worry about that.” Saint reached down and pushed her pillow up. “This is hot,” he said as he took the soup off the tray and set it on her nightstand. He put the tray over her lap, stepped back, and removed his clothing down to his boxer shorts.

“Where are your bags?” Xenia asked, looking around.

“Downstairs – I’ll bring them up later. Right now, just lay back and relax.” Saint walked over to her, took the cough medicine off the tray, broke the seal and poured it in the plastic measuring cup.

“Open wide,” he said. “I know you didn’t take anything, so you really need this.” Xenia opened her mouth and swallowed the syrup, grimacing at the horrible taste.

Saint laughed at her facial expression. “Oh, come on now. It wasn’t that bad,” he grinned.

Xenia
laughed and pretended to gag. “Oh, yes it was!” She rubbed her chest as she felt it burning. Saint laughed and walked into her bathroom. Xenia heard him turn on the bathwater. She watched as he disappeared down the stairs and returned with his luggage. She observed him open his bag, take out a small travel kit, and go back into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. Her curiosity forced her to put her movie on mute. She suddenly smelled eucalyptus, peppermint, and lemon. Saint emerged minutes later and turned the bedroom light off so that the room was illuminated only by the television. He walked over to her, gently taking her by the arm.

“Come on, Baby, come with me,” he said as he stood her up, then picked her up in his arms and carried her to the bathroom. He kissed her cheek again as they made their way into the bathroom. Xenia looked around and saw white tea light candles lit all around the bathtub. Assorted oils sat on the bathroom vanity.

“Oh, it’s so pretty in here,” Xenia said weakly. “You’re so sweet.”

He carried her over to the garden tub and put her down into the warm, sudsy water. He grabbed a thick, soft washcloth and began to painstakingly go over her body, from head to toe. “Just relax and let me take care of you,” he said as he reached down into the water and gently removed her tampon and disposed of it. “You have a fever, did you know that?” Saint asked calmly as he washed her feet. Xenia shook her head ‘no.’

“You’re burning up. When I take you out of here, I’m going to give you some Tylenol.”

Saint lovingly finished bathing her, lifted her out of the tub, and had her sit on the edge of it as he dried her off. She watched as he opened up a small bottle of peppermint lotion and knelt down in front of her. He put some in his hands, rubbed them together, and started at her feet, massaging the peppermint into her skin. Xenia reached over and braced herself on his shoulder. He worked his hands up her legs, reaching her thighs. He moved to her stomach and ribs, then reached behind her and rubbed her back and neck. He finished with her arms and stood up, taking her into his arms and carrying her back out into the bedroom, laying her gently onto the bed.

“I need to put another tampon in,” Xenia said weakly.

“Do you have any pads, Baby? You really shouldn’t use a tampon when you’re ill. It’s too long of a reason to get into, but it would be better if you didn’t. Do you have any? If not I can go out and get you some.”

“Oh, no – yuck. I hate pads! I do have some, though. I haven’t used pads regularly in years. They’re in my bathroom closet.” Saint left and returned to see Xenia pulling a pair of black cotton panties up her thighs. He handed her the pad.

“It amazes me some of the stuff you know,” Xenia giggled. “You’re too funny.”

Saint smiled, “It’s my job to know. And don’t think you’re still off the hook about this birth control issue. I guess we’re just going to keep arguing about it until you stop taking it,” Saint said.

Xenia
rolled her eyes and got back in the bed. “You haven’t given any other recommendation, yet you’re steadily complaining,” she coughed.

“Yes, I did. I told you that since your period is pretty regular, we could just time sex, and if it’s a high risk time, I’d use a condom. You don’t want that though. You said it messes up the spontaneity.” Saint shook his head and smiled. He handed her a couple of Tylenol.

“Take these, Sweetheart.” Xenia took them from his hand, picked up her juice, and swallowed. Saint then sat next to her on the side of the bed.

“Thanks again for coming. You’re full of surprises. This is so nice of you.”

“This is what I’m supposed to do. I knew if I told you I was coming, you’d tell me not to. You’re my baby. I have to take care of you.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead.

“I almost forgot. Pull your panties back down,” Saint requested. Xenia smiled, quickly taking them off then lying back down. Saint went into the bathroom and returned with a pink razor. Xenia grimaced and crossed her arms over her breasts.

“I thought you were going to give me some!” She said half-heartedly. Saint laughed.

“You’re sick, you have a fever, and you’re on your period. That’s not exactly ideal,” he said. “No, you aren’t getting any sex. You’re just going to get well.”

“But sex will make me get well,” Xenia whined as she looked at his dick moving in his boxer shorts. Saint straddled her. He opened up a small can of shaving cream, squirted a small dab onto his fingers, and rubbed it on her groin. He removed the safety plastic from the disposable razor and gently removed her pubic hair, leaving a small landing strip. He looked at her legs and lifted one of her arms. “Looks like you got everything else,” he said as he rose off of her.

“Please,” she said, squirming around, her skin warm to the touch.

Saint looked at her and shook his head. “Come on now, get some sleep.” He walked to the other side of the bed and climbed in with her. He sat up, took the movie off mute, and started to laugh as the next scene rolled out.

“Saint, come on, please,” she said, looking over at him helplessly.

“Eat your soup,” he said, avoiding eye contact as he looked straight ahead.

“I won’t kiss your mouth,” Xenia joked. “Just a quickie – just once.”

“You know it won’t be once. You know how we are. Once it starts, it won’t stop. I don’t think we’ve ever had sex just once. You need to go to sleep. I’m serious,” Saint said as he put his arm around her. Xenia batted her eyes at him. He could see her out the corner of his eye. His dick jumped, responding to her advances.

“You don’t have the strength anyway. Come on, stop it,” Saint laughed, still refusing to look at her.

“We can do it in the shower. What? It’s my period too, right?” she asked softly.

“You know that wouldn’t stop me. It’s because you’re sick. I’m starting to get mad because you’re not taking me seriously. Plus, you know if you keep working on me, I’ll give in.”

Xenia
stood up and slid her panties off. She walked flirtatiously past him, almost skipping. He watched her intensely as she disappeared into the bathroom. He hung his head as he heard the shower water come on. He closed his eyes and shook his head. He slowly stood up, pulled his boxer shorts down, letting them fall at his ankles. He walked into the bathroom and closed the door behind them.

“You know you’re wrong for making me do this to you.”

Two weeks later…

Xenia
sat cross-legged in the vast, open living room. The bubbling and gurgling from the aquarium made her sleepy as she continued to channel surf.

“Hey, Sweetie,” Saint said as he returned from a meeting. “Sorry it took so long, and please don’t kill me, but I have to run back out. I’d like to go to the gym later too. I haven’t worked out in two days. I also have an interview with…”

Xenia
waved her hand, “It’s fine, Honey. Do what you have to do,” she yawned. “I’m pissed,” she said as she stood up and stretched.

“I know, Baby, but I can’t control my schedule to the point where I cancel everything this week.”

“No, not about that. I’ve been looking for my laptop and must’ve forgotten to pack it. It doesn’t help that my cell phone is acting up. I can’t get my email right now,” Xenia sulked as she stretched out on the couch.

“Well here, use mine,” Saint said as he walked into the bedroom and returned with his silver laptop, handing it to Xenia. “The password is ‘ILOVETOFUCK247.’”

“Classy!” Xenia set it on her lap and opened it. Saint laughed and quickly kissed her before grabbing his car keys and heading right back out the door.
