Matthew 22:1-33

1
And Jesus answered and spake unto them [the chief priests and Pharisees] again by parables, and said,
2

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3

and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4

Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and
my
fatlings
are
killed, and all things
are
ready: come unto the marriage.
5

But they made light of
it,
and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6

and the remnant took his servants, and entreated
them
spitefully, and slew
them.
7

But when the king heard
thereof,
he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8

Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9

Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10

So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

11

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12

and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast
him
into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14

For many are called, but few
are
chosen.

15
Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in
his
talk.
16
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any
man:
for thou regardest not the person of men.
17
Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

18
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said,
Why tempt ye me,
ye
hypocrites?
19
Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20
 And he saith unto them,
Whose
is
this image and superscription?

21
 They say unto him, Caesar's.

Then saith he unto them,
Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22
 When they had heard
these words,
they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

23
The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
24
saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
25
Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
26
likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
27
And last of all the woman died also.
28
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

29
Jesus answered and said unto them,
Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
31

But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
32

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
33
 And when the multitude heard
this,
they were astonished at his doctrine.

Psalm 27:1-6

A Psalm
of David.

1
 The L
ORD
is
my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the L
ORD
is
the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2
 When the wicked,
even
mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this
will
I
be
confident.

4
 One
thing
have I desired of the L
ORD
, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the L
ORD
all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the L
ORD
, and to inquire in his temple.

5
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

6
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the L
ORD
.

Proverbs 6:20-26

20
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21
Bind them continually upon thine heart,
and
tie them about thy neck.

22
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and
when
thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23
 For the commandment
is
a lamp; and the law
is
light; and reproofs of instruction
are
the way of life:

24
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25
Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26
For by means of a whorish woman
a man is brought
to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

Exodus 17:8–19:15

8
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12
 But Moses' hands
were
heavy; and they took a stone, and put
it
under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13
And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

14
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Write this
for
a memorial in a book, and rehearse
it
in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15
And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:
16
for he said, Because the L
ORD
hath sworn
that
the L
ORD
will have
war with Amalek from generation to generation.

18:
1
When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people,
and
that the L
ORD
had brought Israel out of Egypt;
2
then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,
3
and her two sons; of which the name of the one
was
Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
4
and the name of the other
was
Eliezer; for the God of my father,
said he, was
mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
5
and Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
6
and he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.

7
And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of
their
welfare; and they came into the tent.
8
And Moses told his father in law all that the L
ORD
had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake,
and
all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and
how
the L
ORD
delivered them.
9
And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the L
ORD
had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10
 And Jethro said, Blessed
be
the L
ORD
, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11
Now I know that the L
ORD
is
greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly
he was
above them.
12
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.

13
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
14
And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What
is
this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

15
And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:
16
when they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make
them
know the statutes of God, and his laws.

17
And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest
is
not good.
18
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that
is
with thee: for this thing
is
too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
19
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
20
and thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place
such
over them,
to be
rulers of thousands,
and
rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
22
and let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be,
that
every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear
the burden
with thee.
23
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee
so,
then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

24
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
25
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

27
And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

19:
1
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they
into
the wilderness of Sinai.
2
For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come
to
the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

3
And Moses went up unto God, and the L
ORD
called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
4
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and
how
I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.
5
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth
is
mine:
6
and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These
are
the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7
And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the L
ORD
commanded him.
8
And all the people answered together, and said, All that the L
ORD
hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the L
ORD
.
9
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the L
ORD
.

10
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,
11
and be ready against the third day: for the third day the L
ORD
will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
12
And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves,
that ye
go
not
up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:
13
there shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether
it be
beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

14
And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
15
And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at
your
wives.
