My stomach instantly dropped. “Dr. Gordon, what’s going on?”

“It’ll all be all right. We just need to check her over. Everything is going to be fine. We just want to make sure everything is okay since you fell. She seems to be very alert.” But I wasn’t comfortable with that. I needed my baby in my arms.

Damien came back over to me and placed a gentle kiss on my lips. “She’s going to be okay.”

I began to sob.

Then I was hit by another round of contractions, and the doctor was telling me to push again. “Why are you asking me to push again, I just delivered my baby.”

“It’s almost over, but now you need to deliver the placenta.”

Oh, for the love of God. This was fucking torture. I just wanted to hold my baby. Once I was finished, I settled my head back on the bed.

The nurses couldn’t work fast enough. Before I knew it, our little baby girl was settled into my arms. I cooed at her and kissed her head. She was perfect. The doctor and nurse confirmed that.

“You did so good.” I looked down at my hand and our baby’s hand in his. “She’s so tiny. I can’t believe she only weighs six pounds and two ounces.”

“I know she’s just a peanut. And Damien,” he paused and gave me his ear, “we did good.”

His eyes glistened, and he bent over kissing both the baby and me. I knew I had totally just melted his heart. “Thanks, that means everything to me.”

Maybe he wasn’t her biological father, but he was the father in every other sense of the word.

“So, sweets, don’t you think we should give her a name?”

“I suppose that would be a good idea.” I looked down at my baby knowing exactly the name I wanted to give her. “I have an idea.”

“What’s that, babe?”

“How about if we name her Luciana Suzanne Blue and call her Lucy. This way she would be named after your mom and my mom.”

“Really, you want to name her after my mom?” I looked up at him, and his eyes had that same glossy look to them, as if tears were going to spill over at any moment.

“Yes.”

He looked at our baby and cooed to her. “Hi, Lucy, do you like your name?”

Of course, she didn’t say anything she was sound asleep in my arms. “I think she’ll love her name just as much as she’s going to love her daddy.”

“You make me so happy. Despite Wes, today has been one of the happiest days of my life.” He leaned over and kissed me gently on the lips. “As soon as we can have sex, I’m planting another baby inside you. I want to have as many babies as we can.”

My eyes bugged out of my head. Why was he talking about having another baby when I just gave birth? “We’ll see.”

“Yes, we will.” He smirked at me, and I knew he would win this argument.

Lucy started fussing as the nurse came back into our suite. Lucy kept making a motion with her mouth. I looked at Damien. “I think she’s hungry.”

I lifted my gown exposing my breast. I’ve heard a lot about breastfeeding and about how difficult it can be, but she just latched right on, as if she’d been doing it for a while.

Damien just stood there and stared at us. “I think that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

About a half hour later, a knock sounded and the door slightly opened. “Can we come in?” It was Luciana and Thomas. I covered myself with the blanket so not to expose myself. They walked in, and then the entire family trailed behind them.

Damien greeted everyone and they all took turns holding the baby. His mother started to cry. “I can’t believe you named the baby after me, I’m so honored.”

She was holding our baby and seemed to be in her prime. Damien and Justice had stepped out of the room to talk. No doubt, he was filling him in on the rest of what Wes had done to me. I knew if he told him to keep it in the strictest of confidence, he would.

They came back into the room and Damien went and picked up Lucy from his mother. He walked over to me while he cooed at her and called her sweet names. He was so loving.

Bee burst through the doors. “I was just able to go on break. I couldn’t get here quick enough. Damien, hand that baby over to me.”

He gathered her into his arms tightly not showing any sign of giving her over to Bee. I cleared my throat. He looked down at me, and I shook my head.

“What?”

“I think you need to let Bee have a turn, honey.”

“But I don’t want her to have a turn, she’s mine.” He glared at me. So I glared back. Then we both started laughing.

“You better hand that baby over, Damien. I know where you sleep,” Bee said while placing her hands on her hips and giving him her best
you better not mess with me
look.

I just cracked up some more. Damien finally relinquished our daughter to her and came over to me. He bent down and started whispering in my ear. “You’ll never have to worry about Wes again, baby.”

“Thank you.” I felt my hairs stand on the back of my neck just thinking about all I’d been through with that poor excuse for a human being.

“Justice and his boys are on it. As soon as we’re out of here, we are getting a restraining order. That’s for when and if he gets out of jail. I hope you don’t mind, but I told him about the rape.” He looked troubled. It was a topic that neither one of us liked to bring up.

“You make me feel so safe, Damien.”

And he did.

Really safe.

“That’s because you are safe.” And I saw in his eyes that he truly meant every word.

“When Justice pulled him up on the computer, he had several charges over the last two years for various crimes.”

“Wow, really? He’s the devil.”

Bee walked over to us breaking us from our conversation. “You two did good. She is absolutely perfect. And after seeing your baby pictures, Syd, I think she looks just like you.” She winked at me as we shared our moment.

“Thanks, honey, she’s perfect. I feel so blessed.”

Damien cleared his throat. “We feel so blessed.”

Everyone had left with the exception of Justice. “Sydney, I’m going to need you to file a report when you’re done. We’ll be pressing charges for attempted kidnapping, but you’ll need to work with Detroit on the rape charges. I actually have a buddy there and gave him a call. He’s been dealing with Wes’ shit for a while and wants to see him go down.”

“Do you think you can make that happen?”

“Hell, yeah!”

“Well, I’m going to get out of your hair. My niece is beautiful.” He came over and gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead, and then patted his brother on the back in a guy hug.

Damien came over to me and placed Lucy in my arms. She was fussy and needed to eat again.

“Honey, this has been one crazy day. I can’t believe it went from darkness to bright glistening sunshine in only a matter of minutes. I feel so relieved to know Wes is going to be behind bars. It will be so nice to not have to look over my shoulder anymore.”

“Yeah, that fucker deserves to pay.”

“Damien, I’m so happy.” And truly I was the happiest I’d ever been in my entire life. I just wish that maybe my mother had been here to share in this blessed event with us.

“I’m extremely happy. You’re so amazing, baby.” He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips. And then kissed Lucy’s forehead.

“Not as amazing as you are.”

“I love you so much.” My heart was overly swollen with the love I felt for this man and our baby. I couldn’t be happier.

“I love you, too.”

He leaned over and placed another warm kiss on my lips and I shivered. I might have had a rough year, and I was certainly damaged, but I wasn’t broken. Damien had shown me a love like no other. It was perfect, it was sweet, and it was the right kind of love.

Sydney

“B
aby, hurry up, we’re going to be late,” Damien called for me from downstairs.

We were going out for the first time since we’d had the baby. Drea had volunteered to babysit since Damien’s parents already had plans. I was a bit apprehensive about leaving her, but Drea assured me she was in good hands. She actually had three kids of her own that were teenagers. So she had the free time to watch our little Angel.

And she was an angel. She was the best baby ever. She rarely woke up in the middle of the night and only fussed when she wanted to eat or have her diaper changed. She was a happy baby and I felt truly blessed.

Dale, my step-father, and I weren’t speaking. He couldn’t believe that I’d accused his son of such a heinous crime. And I wasn’t going to back down. He didn’t know the baby was Wes’ and truthfully, Bee, Damien, and I were going to take that to our grave. I didn’t want anyone to know about him being the father. The baby’s last name was Blue, Damien was raising her as his own, and that was the way it was going to stay.

I won’t lie. Dale had hurt me. We got along well enough. I just figured he would believe me. I mean, why would I lie over something so violent that could damage a person. He took his son’s side, and I believed they would both live in denial.

We were supposed to go to court in a few months. I had the records from the hospital and Bee’s testimony, but that was about it. I prayed that I would win the case. I wanted to see that sorry excuse for a human behind bars.

We also had a case here in Vegas for the assault and attempted kidnapping. He pleaded that he was just visiting a friend, and I wanted to go with him. Then he said Damien got jealous and stepped in and they fought. Thank God he wasn’t trying to press charges against Damien. Fortunately, a nosey neighbor had seen a lot of what happened and testified on our behalf.

So, needless to say, I had a lot of court appearances to make in the future, but I wouldn’t stand down. I would fight until the end. I had tried ignoring everything, but not anymore. He deserved to pay for his actions.

The loss of my only family left wasn’t going to tear me down. I’d overcome so much, and I would overcome them without a problem. I had a real family now, the Blues, and they were amazing. They accepted me with loving, open arms.

I looked in my closet searching for my zebra print pumps. I had decided to pair them with a pair of black slacks and a long sleeve black asymmetrical cascading blouse. It was super sassy. I had just gone shopping with Lucy and Bee. I was going to set off my look with a lot of silver jewelry. I loved my silver.

Finishing getting my clothes on, I grabbed my red clutch and headed for the door. When I got downstairs, Drea was already there, and she, Bee, and Damien were all talking. Damien had Lucy in his arms.

“I’m ready.” But was I ready to leave my girl by herself?

I took Lucy from Damien and peppered her with kisses. She was alert just looking at me. “Mommy loves you, Angel.”

Damien walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my shoulder. “You going to be okay with this?”

“I won’t lie, I’m nervous as hell.” I looked down at Lucy and cooed to her.

“Please don’t worry. She’s in good hands. I’ve raised three children, after all, so I’ve got this covered,” Drea said with a smile.

“Well, all right.”

“Now hand that precious little girl over to me and you all get your butts out of here.” She could be bossy when she wanted to. And she was my boss. She was the best, though. I felt blessed to have her in my life. I was still off work, and she had told me to take as much time as I needed.

Handing Lucy over to Drea, I gave her one last kiss. “She’s all yours. Remember, we’ll try to be home as soon as Damien finishes his set.”

“No problem. I’m a night owl, so staying up late doesn’t bother me one bit.”

Damien grabbed my hand and started dragging me behind him. “I’ll see you later. Call me if you need me. I’ll have my phone on at all times.”

“Have fun.”

And with that, we were out the door in the car and headed to the bar.

“Bee, you’re quiet back there, is everything all right?” She hadn’t been herself the last few days.

“Just thinking.” I looked over my shoulder and indeed, she seemed to be deep in thought.

“Whatcha thinking about?”

“It’s just…”

“Just what, babe?” We were almost there, and I wanted to know what was bothering her before we got to the bar.

“Jensen asked me to move in with him. I want to, but I don’t want to leave you all in a bind with bills. I know you’re not working right now.” She was such a considerate friend. I would be happy for her if it weren’t Jensen. I just don’t like him, but I have to respect my friend’s decision. Damien looked over to me with a concerned look, and I returned it.

“We’ll be fine with bills, babe, but are you sure you want to move in with him?” I couldn’t help it. I had to be honest with her.

“Why don’t you like him?” Her voice was filled with anger.

“It’s not that I don’t like him. I just think you can do better. I only want the best for you.” And I did. He wasn’t the one.

“Well, I’m gonna move in with him.”

“Suit yourself.”

“Don’t be mad.”

“I’m not mad. I love you and just am speaking out of concern.”

We pulled up to the bar and parked.

Exiting the car, I waited for her and gave her a huge hug. “I love you and will support whatever decision you make, babe. Just remember I’ll always stand by your side.”

“Thanks, I appreciate it.” She gave me a warm smile, and I returned it.

Walking into the bar, we headed for our usual table and it was full. Full of family and friends. All of the girls from work and Luka were there as well as Damien’s siblings and his parents.

I rushed over to his parents. “Luciana, you totally surprised me. I can’t believe you and Thomas are here.”

“Damien requested we come, but he didn’t want us to say anything.” That was odd. I wonder why he didn’t want them to say anything.

“I’m so glad you’re here!” I gave her a huge hug. She had quickly become a mother figure in my life.

“How’s my grandbaby?” She smiled at me.

“She’s doing good. I just love her so much.”

“I know you do, sweetheart.”

Destiny came over and put her arm around me. “How are you and my niece doing?”

“All is good.” I smiled warmly at her.

The server came over and asked for my drink order. I was sticking with water tonight because I was breastfeeding.

Damien walked over to me. “Hey, baby, I’m going to head backstage with the guys. Are you up to doing a few numbers with us tonight?” I hadn’t sung with them since I found out I was pregnant, and getting up on stage tonight sounded pretty damn appealing. I knew Damien loved when we sang together. We often sang Lucy to sleep together. It was something that was special and only between the three of us.

“Yeah, I’d love to. Just call me up there when you’re ready for me.” He bent me over and swept me off my feet by laying one hell of a kiss on me. When I recovered, I was breathless. He winked at me and walked toward the guys with Sabastien following.

Sitting down at the table, I had a great spot between Shaina and Bee. My two besties. Shaina had since given up on Sabastien. She said he just wouldn’t open up to her or try. I couldn’t blame her. Sabastien wasn’t like any of the rest of the Blues. He was shy and just different. He certainly danced to the beat of his own drum.

Hearing chatting on my other side, I turned to Bee to see what she was up to. She was carried away in a conversation with Reeve and Justice. She was batting her eyes and flipping her hair. She was pulling out the flirt with these two. This was a very interesting turn of events. It would be so much better if she could fall for one of the brothers, instead of creepy Jensen.

“Hey, Bee.” I nudged her with my elbow.

She turned around and gave me a death glare. I guess I was interrupting her shameless flirt. “What’s up?”

“Not that I mind, but I was just wondering where Jensen is tonight.”

Her face softened a little bit. “He had a bachelor party to go to, not that I mind one bit.”

She was totally digging the Blue boys. Shame on her. She had a boyfriend. “Well, I don’t mind either. Resume your conversation.” I shooed her away with my hand. She turned around and went back to her flirt. The girl could turn it on. I still couldn’t believe she was going to move in with Jensen. I had a feeling something was going to go wrong.

Terribly wrong.

But I wouldn’t worry about it tonight. She was in good hands with Justice and Reeve.

I looked to the stage excited to see my baby perform, and I noticed the lights go on above the stage and the fog permeated the room. The guys came out and took their position. Damien and Sabastien had switched positions, so my guess was that Damien was going to sing their opening song.

The first notes started playing from their instruments, and I instantly recognized it. How Soon is Now by The Smiths. It was one of my favorites. I loved this song. Shaina took my hand, and we headed to the dance floor. The rest of the girls followed with the exception of Bee. She couldn’t be pulled away from her flirt with Justice and Reeve.

The song ended and Damien greeted the crowd. “Tonight is a special night, we appreciate everyone coming out. We are The Fade.”

They immediately started playing Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard and the crowd went apeshit. Sabastien was back as their frontman, but he took his typical position with his back to the crowd.

I looked to Shaina as she watched him. It was obvious she still liked him. If I could help her out with this situation, I would. He was just so complex. She leaned over in my ear so that I could hear her. “Doesn’t he have an amazing voice?”

I nodded my head yes. Sabastien wasn’t into the groupies like some of the other guys. He just didn’t do girls at all. I had asked Damien if he was gay, and he gave me a hell no. It was pretty comical.

Mags came up to me and pinched my butt. I turned around and gave her a giant hug. We started shaking our asses. They began to sing Cheap Trick’s  I Want You to Want Me, and everyone made it to the dance floor even Bee, Reeve, and Justice. They had rushed the stage, and she was dancing pretty provocatively between them.

Damien was singing lead vocals on this song, and he was staring straight at me as he sang them. My panties went wet, my mouth went dry, and my nipples got hard. It was still too soon after having Lucy to have sex, but it didn’t mean I couldn’t pleasure my man, and boy, did I ever have plans for him.

The song ended, and I went back to the table to grab my phone and headed outside to check on Lucy. I was just walking back into the bar when I heard Damien calling me up on stage. Placing my phone in my back pocket, I made my way to the stage. He walked over and gave me a panty-dropping smile.

“Can everyone welcome my girl, Sydney Summers? We’re going to do something a little out of the box for this band. Hope you enjoy it.” We had rehearsed the song. It was fun, it was fast, and everyone loved to dance to it. We sang You’re the One that I Want by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. We had so much fun singing it together.

After the song ended, I knew it was my queue to leave the stage, but he had taken my hand. “Stay, babe, I want you to be on stage when I sing this song.”

He started singing Faithfully by Journey. But he didn’t sing it to the crowd he sang it directly to me. He stared into my eyes and belted it out. It was beautiful. My belly did a whoosh.

A big whoosh.

When the song ended, he got down on the ground on one knee. I thought he dropped the microphone, but instead, he completely shocked me.

“Tonight, I am gonna give my girl
special
. You and Lucy mean everything to me, and I want to make you mine officially. Will you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?”

Everyone in the crowd had fallen silent.

Tears started to rain down my face, and I gasped covering my mouth.

“You’re putting me through misery here, Syd. What do you say? Will you give me
special
forever.”
