"Mama helped me with all the planning, and Dat has been generous. The men will come tomorrow to help, and the women will cook. Oh, Samuel, I cannot wait to marry you! I am looking forward to our wedding."

"I am, too." He stood and took her in his arms and kissed her lovingly. He then took out his handkerchief and wiped her face. "Do you feel better now, my
lieb
?"

"Except for my bottom," she agreed. "I hope I can sit down comfortably on our wedding day!"

"A bit of tenderness will only remind you that you are loved by the man who will be your husband."

Sadie nodded, and then stood on tiptoe and kissed him. "I do love you, Samuel Hilty!"

"And I love you, Sadie. Now, let's go back and find something to eat."

"After I tell Mary how sorry I am," Sadie said firmly. It didn't take long to find Mary; she was helping to serve the men's tables. "Mary, I am sorry I was so mean to you earlier today, and all of this last week. I love you, and I think I am stepping on your toes because I know you will still love me, even if I am a beast... That doesn't make it right, though. Please forgive me?"

"There is nothing to forgive, Sadie. Just please remember when I am nervous before I get married, okay?" Mary said with a big smile, and then she hugged her sister. "I only hope I am half as wonderful as you have been, sister. I know how hard this has been for you with
Mamm
unable to help. And I admire the way you made her feel as though she was making the decisions and helping out."

Sadie felt tears fill her eyes and she quickly tried to blink them away. Mary leaned in closer to whisper, "Are you still sure you want to marry a man who spanks?" The look in her eyes was teasing, however.

"I love him," Sadie said, nodding her head.

Tuesday arrived right on schedule and Sadie was delighted to learn that the day was going to be beautiful. She hurried around, tending to last minute details while Mary fixed breakfast for their large family. The little girls pitched right in, helping Mary to set the table, and do what she needed them to do. Miriam was the first to arrive, and Atlee was happy to see her. "
Danki
for coming so early to help, Miri," he said.

"I know that Sadie will do the same for us, Atlee."

They ate, cleared away the dishes, and by then the ladies chosen to heat food and set it out, and those who were asked to set up the tables were there already, working to make sure that everything would be ready on time. Martha clapped her hands and sent Sadie upstairs to get dressed for her wedding, and she sent the rest of the family to do the same. Miriam joined Mary and Sadie in their bedroom, and they talked and giggled as they dressed in the beautiful blue dresses that Sadie planned for them to wear. Their aprons and
kapps
were new, too. And so were their shoes and stockings. Sadie truly felt pretty. It wasn't long before
Dat
came knocking and said it was time for the wedding to begin.

Sadie knew that she would never recall all of the prayers and hymns that were sung, or all of the advice offered to them by the ministers, but she would never forget the vows she made to Samuel or the vows he made to her. The look in Samuel's eyes as he spoke his vows to her in a clear voice, assuring her of his love, filled her with pride. She felt she was the luckiest woman in the world, and certainly the happiest. After the service was over they were congratulated by family and friends, and then the wedding feast started. The 'roast' was fantastic, and the creamed celery exceptionally good. She loved sitting at the
eck
, on Samuel's left side. Her sister Mary and Miriam sat on her left, and Atlee and David sat on Samuel's right. The feast was delightful, and Sadie was very pleased. She could see that her
Mamm
and
Dat
were excited for her, and Sadie looked at Samuel and said, "We are truly blessed on this wonderful day, Samuel."

"I want to give you one more promise, Sadie," Samuel told her, and his expression was as solemn and serious as she'd ever seen it. "I give you my word that I will never subject you, or any children we might have, to a shunning. I will do nothing to sever your ties with your family or with our community. I will never do to you what my father did to my
Mamm
. This is my promise."

"It is a good promise, but one that did not need to be made, Samuel. I trust your heart to do what is always best for us. It is that simple." She smiled at him and he returned her smile with one of his own before leaning toward each other and kissing, much to the delight of the others at the table.
