“Oh Soph. Oh
baby, don’t cry.” One step closer and Alan gathered her into his
arms, his heart almost bursting. She loved him! “Oh baby.” Jesus,
was that all he could say?

One sideways
glance showed Mike calmly sipping his coffee. Surprisingly, he
nodded to Alan and made a gesture with his cup.

Like he needed
advice from King Kong. Mind you, he did have a devoted wife. Go
figure.

A sniff from
the chick in his arms had him cupping her wet cheeks and tipping
her head back so he could look down into her eyes. “Really, Sophie?
You really love me?”

“Yes. I’m
sorry.”

He couldn’t
help but laugh.

“Don’t, Alan.
Whatever you do, please don’t laugh. I’ll be gone by morning, you
won’t have to see me again. Laugh then but don’t laugh in front of
me.”

The shame and
misery in her eyes almost done him in. “Oh baby.” He kissed her
eyelids tenderly, one each, lingering and soft.

She
hiccuped.

Drawing back a
little, he rested his forehead against hers and looked deep into
her tear-drenched eyes. “Sophie, I love you. I was going insane
thinking of you going home, back to your family and friends and
leaving me behind. I couldn’t even get any cheer up when booking a
hoon, and that’s saying something.”

There was a
glimmer of hope in her eyes.

“I was on my
way home to tell you to stay, to beg you, when this speed hog sped
past us and we had to give chase.”

She blinked.
“Ummm…”

“Soph,” he said
softly. “I love you. Stay here, marry me, drive me insane, make me
laugh, grow old with me, and still have hot sex with me when our
hip and knee joints are replaced and my perfect body is all
wrinkly.”

She started to
laugh, watery, true, but genuinely amused. “Oh, Alan, that’s the
most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.”

“Don’t worry,
baby, there’s more where that came from.”

“Promise?”

He kissed her
lightly. “Every night, Soph. Every night.” He kissed her again, a
little deeper, a little longer. “I love you, Soph.” Another kiss, a
lot of tongue. “My own personal fantasy.” Sweeping her into his
arms, he kissed her with hot thoroughness.

Cars swept
past, their lights providing the perfect backdrop. Several hooted
their horns and a couple of young blokes let out yahoos as they
drove past.

Alan couldn’t
care less. In fact, he didn’t hear them. He had Sophie in his arms
and that was all he needed.

In the cop car,
Mike sipped on his coffee and smiled.

In the window
of Elsie’s bookshop is proudly displayed a huge poster of Sophie
Willow’s latest erotic romance,
Cop Heat
. Australia and New
York Times Number One Best Seller.

In her latest
interview, Sophie Willow (married name Sophie Cooper) states it’s
based on real life.

Her husband
just smiles and winks. He’s kind of cute in a boy-next-door way.
She says he looks hot in uniform and hotter out of it.

He says she
should know, she strips him out of it regularly.

Who knew the
Sex Queen could blush?
