I couldn’t help but smile by the simple thought of smacking her ass until it turned a bright shade of pink, something I had not thought about doing to a woman in five years.

My teeth clenched my lip. “Oh, Via, I would love to assist you in answering that question of yours.”

“As delighted I am to test this theory, I need to sleep. I will call you first thing in the morning, Ryan.” With that, she hung up the phone.

Instantly I was alone again. My heart sank once I could no longer hear her.

I had never once ached over someone in my thirty years.

Before I could stand up to prepare myself for bed, my cell phone rang. I grinned as I answered, “I thought you were going to bed, Miss Johnson?”

She exhaled on the phone. “I had to tell you something. Somebody once told me to always let people know how you feel because one day, it may be too late.” She took a deep breath and released it. “I think I am in love with you.”

I opened my mouth to express my feelings for her, but the line cut.
Did she actually just hang up on me?
Staring at my phone, I waited until her name flashed over the screen again.

“You tell me that you love me and then you hang up on me?”

“I’m sorry. I wasn’t ready to hear your response. I panicked.”

Instead of speaking right away, I let the awkward silence linger just to spite her. Her breathing grew harder, and I would put money on it that she was biting her sexy ass lip. She was growing anxious, which was making me a bit horny. “I don’t
think
I am in love with you. I already know.”

My heart slammed against my chest, surprised by the words I had just spoken.
Do I love this woman? Do I want to spend the rest of my life with her? Damn straight!

“What makes you so sure?”

Does she seriously want me to explain how she makes me feel over the phone? That’s not going to happen!

“Go to bed, Olivia. We will talk about this when I see you again. I have a trial in two days I must prepare myself for so I am not clueless in court. You are a huge distraction. Now, get well rested because you will need it before you see me again.” With that, I hung up the phone.

As much as I wanted to, I refrained from answering when she called again. Instead, I shut everything down in my office and went straight to my bedroom. As my head hit my pillow, my phone buzzed, this time with a text message. I smiled once I read her message.

Via

Since you have decided to ignore me now, I will play this little game of yours. I am going to bed. Not because you told me to, but due to the fact I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow. So much so, I may be too busy to answer any of your messages or calls. Consider this your warning!

I had to admit, it was a bit of a turn-on when she got a little bothered. It was much more amusing in person, but the text message would do for now. It would be enough to allow me to picture her wide blue eyes that changed to a shade of green when she was angry, or how the color of her cheeks would transform into a bright shade of pink. Rolling over, I tried to block out my perverted thoughts. I lay there, trying my damnedest to think of what I needed to complete for my case.

I was meeting with my client tomorrow afternoon to go over a few questions they might ask her in court. The questions would zero in on my client’s relationship with the heartless son of a bitch.
When she met him, how long had she known him? Did he show any signs of odd behavior
—that sort of thing. I had spoken with this woman over the phone. The run-through of the trial would be our first physical meeting, which was what she had requested, of course.

Normally, I did not take on clients unless we met in my office. A phone call was too impersonal and distant. I found my job easier once I got the eye-to-eye contact. I was a hard-ass in the court room, but with my clients, I preferred to be laid back enough so they were comfortable.

My lips mumbled the lyrics of
Baby Got Back
before my eyes opened the next morning.
Oh, that woman is so going to get paid back for what she did to me.

I didn’t care if she was the first woman ever to have enough balls to pull this prank. Others would be too intimated or know better. She wasn’t afraid of me. In all honesty, I was afraid of her.

No matter where I traveled, women would stare at me with the same expressions. It was either an

look or the jaw dropping

gawk. I got a kick out of watching the women drool over my appearance, but it was merely looks. Olivia Johnson was the one woman who did not glare at me like I was from another planet. Hell, she had me wondering if she even found me attractive. She did a fantastic job at ignoring me until my brother introduced us.

For the first time in a long ass time, I didn’t feel like another sex object. It felt as if she saw right through my soul when she stared into my eyes.

The loud ringing of my alarm jolted me out of my thoughts. I clambered out of bed and straight to the bathroom, dragging my phone along with me just in case my Via called. I turned the water to the shower on, stripped out of my lounge pants, and stepped underneath the water. Letting the warmth mask my body, I drenched my hair and lathered on shampoo. My hair was nice and sudsy when my phone rang. “Of course.”

I checked the ID and answered, “Good morning, Emilia.”

“Good morning, sir.” She sounded dumbfounded by my chipper tone. I couldn’t blame her since I had been slightly bitter and short with her since I hired her. “Samantha Benson just called to confirm today’s meeting, sir.”

“Thank you, Emilia. I will be in the office in approximately an hour. See you then.” I hung up the phone.

Rinsing the shampoo out of my hair, I finished my shower. I stepped out and wrapped a towel around my waistline. Standing in front of the sink, I brushed my teeth and rinsed with mouthwash.

Chapter Five

The morning air was nice and crisp in my nostrils.

I optimistically greeted a still-smirking Charlie when he opened the door for me. Even he looked shocked about my new attitude.
Hmm…I would never have guessed I was that much of a dick.

Emilia greeted me with a manila folder of paperwork once she saw me. I smiled at her as we came into contact. “Thank you, Emilia. Are there any messages for me?”

It took her a few moments, but she grinned. “No sir.”

“Emilia, you have been working for me approximately five years now. I think it would be safe for you to call me Ryan.” Winking at her, I made my way into my office.

I took a seat at my desk and began going through my papers concerning the case, something I should have done last night, but somebody in Aspen kept distracting me. It was a pleasant distraction, at least.

Emilia gently knocked on the door and poked her head in. “Miss Samantha Benson to see you, sir…Ryan.”

Looking up, I set the papers aside and smiled. “Thank you, Emilia. Please send her in.”

A small grin formed on the corners of my lips as I saw my secretary become flustered at my new change of heart. She opened the door wider for Miss Benson to walk in. “Will that be all, Mister Rayner…Ryan?”

“Yes. Thank you, Emilia,” I announced, and she excused herself from the room.

Samantha Benson stood in front of me, staring wide-eyed at me with her humongous brown eyes. She acted and dressed the part of a woman in the writing field. Her clothing was a size, perhaps two, too big for her body. She kept her blond hair up in a tight bun. I couldn’t help but wonder how it looked when she set it free.

Being the gentleman I was, I stood and held my hand out for her to shake. Her skin had been on the pale, clammy side as she grasped mine for a quick second.

“Please, have a seat and we shall get started.”

“Thank you for helping me Mister Rayner.” Her voice was innocent as she sat in a vacant chair opposite me.

I grinned at her as I adjusted myself in my seat again. “If it were up to me, the bastard would be rotting in prison by now, but that is what our job is now. Well, your job, anyway. I’m going to be straightforward with you, Miss Benson, this case rests upon your testimony. It is mostly the reason why I took on your case.”

She stared at me, surprised by my blunt honesty. “Do you honestly believe that what I have to say will matter?”

“I have no reason to lie to you, Miss Benson, and I sure as hell do not beat around the bush,” I told her while smiling in her direction. “I think the asshole will not stand a chance when up against your testimony. Now, I have gone through the paperwork that you have sent me, and I must know why did you let him carry on this way for so long?”

Beginning to grow nervous again, she tucked her hair behind her ears and shrugged. “I thought he was being a flirt at first. Everything had just spiraled out of control. I was home alone waiting for Chinese take-out the night everything happened. After I ate and watched Jay Leno, I headed to bed. To this day, I am still not sure how he did it. When I stepped one foot into my bedroom, he grabbed me and hurled me on the bed.

I tried my damnedest to escape his grip—hitting, clawing, biting—but nothing worked. He smacked my face hard and said he would let me live if I was a good little girl. Tears were streaming down my cheeks by the time he uncoiled the condom wrapper and slammed himself into my body. I tried my best to think of anything but what was happening as he furiously thrust into me.

Once he pleased himself with his ejaculation, he pressed his lips to mine long and hard. He told me if I was to ever tell anybody, he would kill me just like the rest of them. The next morning is when I decided to visit the police station to file a report against him. Shortly after is when I called your office. I have already won my case. I am here as a witness for yours. That bastard does not deserve ever to see the light of day!

My heart went out to her. How could this woman be so strong after what that low-life son of a bitch had done to her?
Ugh
…I would go ape-shit if something like that were to happen to my Via!

It was my turn to stare at her in amazement. “I am so glad you pressed charges and agreed to assist me in my case. The man is a monster, and deserves the death penalty in my book. May I say my deepest apologizes for what happened.”

“Don’t be sorry. Just help me put the cocksucker away for good so nobody else has to go through what I did.”

Hours after Miss Benson had left, I was finishing up at the office. As I stood waiting for the elevator, my phone vibrated from inside my pocket. I dug it out to see Via’s name. “It’s about time. Where in the hell have you been?”

“I’m sorry, boss. I went to my dad’s for the day. The cell phone reception is crapola there,” she spoke, not a single ounce of sarcasm in her tone. “I should have texted you, letting you know where I was. I’m sorry.”

I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the first floor. Standing there for a moment, I collected my thoughts. “No baby, it doesn’t have anything to do with you. I just had a long day at work. I am on my way home now.”

“I wish I was there with you. I would be giving you a rub-down every night you came home stressed.” As she spoke, I grinned. “If you want, I can arrange a masseuse for you.”

Even though she couldn’t see me, I shook my head. “I don’t fucking think so! You are grounded until further notice from ordering me anything.”

She giggled.

I loved to hear that sound
!

“Aw, I’m so sorry Daddy. But I’m afraid it’s already too late.”

“What did you send me now?” I wondered, stopping dead in my tracks.

Her end of the line fell silent for a moment. “It’s nothing bad, I promise. You will like this one. Call me back after you receive it. Bye.”

Just like that, she hung up on me. No woman has ever cut me off…
Ever
. I had to admit it was sexy. A female leaving me senseless and tongue-tied was rare.

My thoughts swirled on what Via’s surprise could be. With this woman, the possibilities were endless. Maybe she was just trying to be her sarcastic self by saying she had something waiting for me, but didn’t.

The buzzing of my phone made my heart jump. I picked it up to read the message.

Dear Ryan,

Charlie has your first present. I hope you like it. ;)

Without missing a beat, Charlie passed a gift box back to me.

I opened the box to see a small card resting on top of a few layers of tissue paper. Opening the envelope, I read it.

“Ryan, please wear this, and
only
this, when we Skype tonight.”

I pulled back the paper to see a navy blue tie made of silk with my name in small rhinestones. My manhood had woken up to the thought of wearing nothing but this.
