“I went to see Cesar today.”

“I trust him to steer me right. Repose hasn’t done anything to make me question the town or those in charge. In fact, I more than likely would be in a bad situation if I hadn’t come here.”

Nevin touched her shoulder. She looked at him.

“Can you tell us about your fears? About what you think may be going on in that town you grew up in?”

A quick glance at Nevin, who was squinting and straight faced, validated Jesse’s feelings.

“You never noticed anything growing up there? No other men took an interest in you?” Nevin asked.

“Plenty of guys asked me out. My grandparents were strict though. They lived on the edge of town, kept to themselves, and it wasn’t until I was in high school that I met Steven. “How did you meet Steven?” Jack asked.

Jesse got some really bad gut feelings about this guy, this situation and about how far in advance Steven had spotted Carina and chose to do the things he did. “How did your grandparents feel about Steven?” Nevin asked.

“They didn’t like him and were super surprised to find out I was dating him.”

“You stayed with him anyway?” Milton asked.

She looked at Milton. Jesse was shocked when she sat up and started getting off the bed.
