Boris smiled as her voice touched his mind.

He dropped to his knees, linked his arms around her legs, and dragged her to him. He licked and suckled her most sensitive spot as she held onto his head and bucked beneath his assault. The orgasm coiled deep inside, but sensing that she was about to lose control, he stopped and kissed her inner thigh.

“You taste like honey,” he whispered. “But now, I want to know how you feel.”

He captured her mouth with his, and he lay on his back, pulling her on top. Lillian straddled his hips and stayed poised above his hard cock. She rocked her hips gently and brushed the head with tantalizing, teasing strokes. Once… twice.

Boris grinned and gripped her hips, pulling her down, and impaling her on his shaft. She cried out as he filled her more completely than any lover—had there been others? She could barely recall, but he would be the last.

“Mates. Tigers. Bears… oh my.” She grinned and ran her fingers through his hair. “I’m not sure about the whole forever thing, and as you are well aware, I’m human. Now granted, I may not be your plain old human, so that’s probably why I haven’t had a psychotic breakdown with the latest developments. I’m a psychic human and what most people consider a weird hippie or nomadic gypsy.” She placed a kiss on his nose. “But why don’t you tell me what you are… aside from a fucking rock star in the sack.”

Chapter 4

Boris lay naked in bed with his mate—his human mate—tangled in his arms, and he realized that he’d fallen hopelessly in love. Maybe he’d always loved her? It felt as if he’d always known her—she’d been a part of him from the day he was born.

His mate was asking him for answers, and as much as he wanted to give them, he feared her reaction. Would she want to stay when she knew the truth? Could she love him once she knew that her life would be forever in jeopardy because of him?

He adjusted the thin sheet and stared out the window at the sunrise as he gathered his courage.

“I am Amoveo of the Tiger Clan, Bengal to be specific.” He played with strands of her wavy hair and noticed the way her heart now beat in perfect time with his. “And I have been waiting for you my entire life.”

She stayed nuzzled in his arms with her head on his chest and ran her fingers over his stomach. However, she said nothing but merely waited for him to continue.

“There are ten animal clans among my people, and all of us have one predestined mate. Until recently, we thought our mates could only be another Amoveo… but clearly, that’s not the case.” He brought her hands to his mouth and kissed her fingers before tilting her face to him and locking those bright eyes on her once again.

His voice dropped to low, urgent tones. “Hayden is a Purist—one of many Amoveo who are dead set against humans breeding into our race and creating hybrid children. He and the others are making it their mission to wipe out the hybrids or the human mates.”

“Human mates… like me?”

“Yes,” he said gruffly. “They will stop at nothing and do anything to get to you—but I promise that we’ll find a way to keep you safe.”

Boris sat up and dragged her into his arms. She hugged him and kissed his lips tenderly before pulling back to look him in the eye. Her fingers fluttered along his neck as she let out a sigh. “I’m tired of wandering, Boris.”

She got out of bed and threw on her tank top and pants before going to look out at the sunrise. She kept her back to him but continued speaking.

“I’ve been a wanderer my entire life. I never felt like I had a home—until I met you.” She turned to face him, and he saw fierce determination in those big blue eyes. “I refuse to let anyone take that away from me.”

She folded her arms over her breasts, and her chin tilted with resolve.

“I say we go back to New Orleans and face it head on. No hiding or pretending. You kicked Hayden’s ass once, so I’m sure you could do it again.”

“Are you certain?” Boris watched her carefully. “We—our union—and any children we have—may not be accepted by our people. Aside from the constant threat of assassination, we could become outcasts. Are you prepared to live that way?”

“Really? That’s what you’re worried about?” Lillian pursed her lips as she crawled across the bed toward him. “Honey, I’m a palm-reading psychic, and up until a couple of days ago, I was living in my van. I’m pretty sure that I’m
not
in the mainstream… anywhere.”

Boris let out a hearty laugh, took her face in his hands, and kissed her as he dragged her down onto the bed with him.

“Then it’s back to New Orleans we go,” he growled against her lips. “Purists be damned.”

As the sun rose over the ocean, he showed her how much he loved her and prayed for the strength to keep her safe. Human. Amoveo. It didn’t matter. She was his, and he was hers… forever.

And he would kill to protect her.
