The Aquerei man was almost as tall as Dax, with huge round eyes, high sloping cheekbones, and streamlined limbs. His reddish purple hair waved gaily in the sea breeze. Ava watched as he waded through the surf and then disappeared beneath the surface.

“See what I mean?” said Dax. “That’s the second one I’ve seen do that.”

“Where do you suppose they go?”

Dax shrugged. “Maybe they’ve all been invited to an underwater tea party—or an orgy.”

“He’d probably be a lot of fun at an orgy.” Ava giggled. “Did you see the dick on him?”

Dax rolled his eyes. “I wasn’t looking at his dick.”

“Really? How could you miss it? It was huge! No ruffle on it, though. Glad my guy is a Zetithian.”

“Me too.” Dax gave her a squeeze and a quick kiss.

Nuzzling his cheek, Ava made an interesting discovery—one she felt she should have made a long time before. “Now, I
know
you haven’t had a chance to shave—don’t Zetithians have beards?”

“Nope,” Dax replied. “That’s a human trait. Got a problem with that?”

“Not at all. I never liked the stubble thing anyway. It can be downright painful sometimes.”

Waroun gave a shout of greeting and swam over to them. “So how was last night? Did you two decide to become mates for life?”

Dax and Ava exchanged a look. Ava was fairly certain that Dax was feeling that way, but she still had doubts—chief among them what a nice, virgin Zetithian boy could possibly see in a fickle half-breed Aquerei girl who barely had a credit to her name. Her next thought was one of Dax with another woman, and her hair immediately began to writhe. Perhaps she
had
mated for life.

Waroun waved his hands as though trying to erase his query. “Didn’t mean to make you mad, Ava!”

“I’m not mad at you,” Ava assured him. “I just… thought of something.”

“Well, I’m glad it’s not me you’re mad at, but I’m tickled shitless that there aren’t any frying pans around here.”

“Never gonna let me forget that, are you?”

Waroun laughed wickedly. “Nope. Too good a story.” He nodded out toward the open water. “Any idea what the Sea Urchin People are doing out there?”

“No,” Ava replied. “And I don’t think I want to.”

“Great place to have a meeting if you don’t want anyone else overhearing what you’ve got to say.” Frowning, he added, “Aquerei can talk underwater, can’t they?”

Ava thought for a moment. “I don’t really know. It’s not something I’ve ever tried. Maybe you have to be a full-blooded Aquerei.”

“I’ll buy that,” said Waroun. “Glad you aren’t—full-blooded, that is. Ugly sons of bitches, aren’t they?”

Dax laughed. “I think Ava would agree with that.”

“You know, you don’t have to fuck way out here in the water,” Waroun went on. “You can do it on the beach.”

Ava glanced over at Threldigan. He was flat on his back, and the Davordian was riding him like a horse. “Can’t you go watch them instead?”

Waroun waved a dismissive hand. “Boring. But you and Super Kitten… well, now, that would be a sight worth seeing.”

Ava wasn’t quite sure how to take that. “Did you spend the night in the Norludian brothel?”

Waroun wrinkled his nose in distaste. “You wouldn’t
believe
the things you had to do to audition for that job! Awful, terrible things!”

“Such as?” Dax prompted.

“You had to do a Konklian!” Waroun said, as though everyone would understand the horror.

“Go on,” said Dax. “Don’t believe I know what they are.”

“They’re the meanest, nastiest women you ever—” Waroun broke off, shuddering. “Let’s just say it was almost enough to make me give up sex forever!”

“And Threldigan said it was because the Darconians were taking all of them,” Ava murmured.

“Guess he was wrong about that.” Dax shifted his grip slightly, and Ava slid down on his stiff cock like a sheath over a sword.

“They said it was because I was tainted and had to be purified.” Waroun apparently hadn’t noticed what Dax had done, though Ava didn’t know how he could have missed the way her eyes crossed when Dax’s hard shaft penetrated her. “And that I’d been offworld too long, or some such garbage. Anyway, I just plain refused to do the Konklian and they threw me out.”

The idea of Waroun being thrown out of even a
Norludian
brothel was too much for Ava. She began laughing uncontrollably, which had a considerable effect on Dax, who let out a yelp.

“What’s the matter with you?” Waroun demanded. “She’s not hurting you—oh, for the love of Leon! You really are fucking, aren’t you?”

“Trying to,” Dax gasped.

“You shouldn’t fuck in the ocean,” Waroun advised. “The pussy juice will get washed away. Causes too much friction. You should do it on the beach.”

“Too much sand on the beach,” Ava declared between giggles.

Dax smiled. Taking Ava’s hips in his hands, he pulled her firmly against him and began sweeping his cock in circles. Ava bit back a groan but couldn’t control her hair, which began tossing in time with the waves as they crashed onto the beach. “You’ve never done an Aquerei, have you, Waroun?”

“Your point?”

“Remember what you said about them liking to mate underwater? Well, I’m pretty sure it’s true. They’re
made
for underwater sex.”

Waroun was clearly fascinated. “You mean the seawater isn’t washing it away?”

“Nope,” Dax replied. “It’s making her slicker.”

“But what about her scent? Don’t you need to smell her to get it up?”

“You’d think it would be a problem, wouldn’t you? But the water seems to be intensifying that too.”

“Well, I’ll be damned.” Waroun shook his head in disbelief. “Who’d have thunk it?”

“Waroun…” Dax began.

“Go away?”

“Please.”

“Oh, all right,” Waroun said disgustedly. “Even Teke got laid last night, and Threldy’s got
two
women! It’s not fair, I tell you, it’s just not fair!”

Ava pressed her face against Dax’s chest in an effort to stifle her laughter, but Waroun heard it anyway.

“Go ahead and laugh,” he grumbled. “Someday I’ll get a chance to prove my sexual prowess, and then you’ll be sorry.”

The shout of laughter that accompanied this remark was compounded by an orgasm and came out as a strangled sound from deep in Ava’s throat.

Waroun turned to swim to the shore, muttering under his breath. “Damned Zetithians. Don’t even have to
try
to make a woman come. It happens automatically! What kind of skill is there in that?”

Ava would have disagreed if she could have spoken. Dax was doing something all right; it must have taken
some
degree of skill to stimulate every vaginal nerve ending she possessed. Sure, it might have been easier for a Zetithian, but it was still fabulous.

“I may not have much in the way of skill,” Dax admitted. “But I’m a quick learner.”

Ava couldn’t have agreed more. Sighing, she captured his lips in a delicious, deeply satisfying kiss. What
was
it about Zetithians that made every part of them taste good? Granted, there were parts of him she was unlikely to ever put in her mouth, but still…

Ava’s Aquerei nature began to assert itself, giving her ideas she’d never had before. Spreading her legs wide, she fanned her toes, feeling a pleasing pull as the water caught in the webbing between them. Breaking off the kiss, she rested her hands on his shoulders. Gazing at his face, she began an effortless swimming motion that carried her up and down on his rigid penis.

The sound of his purring augmented the crash of waves on the shore. Ava’s entire essence seemed to center on the point of their connection as she floated in a steady rhythm. Dax’s expression was one of sensuous delight, but she knew she could do even better. As she increased the force of her strokes, his head fell back and his barely audible “Ohhh” brought a smile to her lips and a throaty, seductive note to her voice.

“Feel good, Dax?”

He tried to nod but couldn’t seem to raise his head. Ava didn’t mind; she drank in the sight of his face, droplets of water sparkling like diamonds on the planes of his cheeks, the sharp gleam of his fangs beneath lips parted in ecstasy. His curls had relaxed in the water and were fanned out in a dark, swirling mass behind him—a mass that cried out for her touch.

Suddenly, it wasn’t enough to have him inside her. Doing a backflip off his cock, she swam up between his legs, delighting in the feel of his genitals caressing her skin. His hair trailed over her backside as she surfaced behind him.

“Oh, Dax,” she sighed. “You’re a delight for all my senses. You look good, feel good, smell good, and I absolutely
love
the sounds you make, but the way you taste… Mmm, you’re good enough to eat.”

Dax sucked his lower lip into his mouth, his sharp fangs pressing into the fullness of his flesh. “So eat me.”

Not needing any further encouragement, Ava dove down to suck his luscious meat into her mouth. She couldn’t see his face very well, but was content with the feel of his eager thrusts and the sharp tang of their combined wetness. Dax hadn’t been kidding when he’d said that the water made her slicker. Her cream seemed to adhere to his skin, mixing with his own orgasmic secretions to provide an unsurpassed degree of lubrication—one that enabled her to swallow him completely until softly curling pubic hair tickled her nose.

His balls bounced lightly against her chin as she used her arms and legs to propel herself through the silky water, his thick cock sliding in and out of her throat with each stroke. This was a surprisingly erotic feeling for her, but it was apparently downright orgasmic for Dax. Unable to hear his response, she felt the force of his ejaculation deep inside and her body reacted wildly as his snard was absorbed. The muscles of her womb flexed as a burst of radiant energy flooded through her, racing from her center to the far reaches of her extremities, culminating in tingling jolts that seemed to pulsate through each individual shaft of her hair.

She felt him begin to relax and reluctantly released him. Dax didn’t hesitate a second, pulling her up out of the water and into his arms.

“That was incredible,” he gasped. “And to think, I used to hate being in the water.”

Ava giggled. “What in the world were you thinking?” Giving him a quick kiss, she added, “Of course, I’ve never actually done that to anyone before, but it seemed like the thing to do at the time.”

“Glad I was your first. Believe me, it was an honor.”

Ava considered that for a moment. “You know, for all practical purposes, you
were
my first—in all the ways that count, that is.”

“Then I’m doubly honored.”

Ava shook her head. “Believe me, the honor was all mine.”

It took some doing, but eventually Ava got Dax to swim a few strokes. He managed a creditable breaststroke but still insisted on keeping his head above the water, which made it difficult for Ava, who didn’t need to, to teach him. She was certain that his natural athleticism would overcome this obstacle in time, but after an hour or so of practice, they were both getting tired and decided to take a break.

Ava plopped down on a chair next to Waroun, who was sunning himself on a chaise lounge. He looked even more sallow than usual against the chaise’s brilliant orange stripes. “How about some lunch? I’m starving!”

“Sex will do that to you,” Waroun said smugly. Teke and Diokut both nodded in agreement from the comfort of their own chaises. Quinn, who was lying on a beach towel with a plate of sausages beside him, merely belched. Threldigan’s two women, thankfully, were already gone, leaving Threldigan passed out on his blanket with Luke curled up beside him, neither of whom responded at all.

Dax collapsed gratefully on another blanket. “Swimming takes it out of you too. I need a nap!”

“Come on then, Waroun,” Ava urged. “Let’s go check out that concession stand and get some sandwiches.”

“I’ll come with you,” Teke said. “Perhaps they’ve got some of those little shellfish I enjoyed so much last night.”

“I’ll eat anything you bring me,” Dax mumbled. “Just as long as it isn’t moving.”

Ava was still having some difficulty adjusting to all the nudity on the beach, but Dax sprawled out face down on a blanket was enough to make her forget everything else. She just stood there, staring at his perfectly shaped buns.

Waroun hopped up and took her hand. “I see that look in your eyes, Ava, but trust me, he needs some rest!”

“I’d better come along too,” Diokut said. “No telling what I’ll get if I don’t.”

“Oh, just the usual squirming, fishy, wormy stuff!” Waroun said with fiendish glee.

The warning from deep in the blanket was quite clear. “None of that, Waroun!”

Waroun made a face. “Yes, Captain.”
