Enid finally spoke.
"My mother's truth lies at the castle, correct? This lion shifter, Ace, may be my father? He may be the shifter who raped her? I know, I know, you say Patty has her doubts. But I don't. Why would mom lie? After all those years? Why would she tell me, years later, after her father had died and could no longer affect her life, why would she still say that she was raped? If it wasn't true, that would have been the time to come clean. She could've told me that she loved a shifter, and forces at the time made her say it was rape. She could have nursed me with love for my real father, the man she couldn't have, because the times dictated it. But instead she nursed me on stories of how he took her and forced himself on her. No, I don't believe for a minute that it was consensual. Even after her husband, the man who raised me as my father, died she still said it was rape.
It was her story that drove your dad to hunt them as well. And he died for it, killed by her mate's mother," she said those last few words with more disgust than Bella had ever heard from her before, jerking her head toward Keelyn. "Her mate's mother killed your father, and yet she still takes him to her bed."
She took a breath, realigning her original rant back toward her own mother, Lauren.
"My mother had every chance to change her story, but she never did. I know you say Patty thinks it was consensual, but that can't be the truth. It can't. And now you're trying to tell me you believe this shit, too? I see that fresh bite on your neck. I know how that got there. You and your sister have both been brainwashed somehow."
"And Ivy, Mom? What about Ivy?"
"Well that just proves my point, doesn't it? She obviously carries shifter blood. You can't deny that."
"No one is denying that, the only question now is was it really rape?"
"Well, I guess there is just one way to find that out, isn't there? We're going to the castle."
"You're coming with us?" Bane asked. "That's not a good idea. We need to travel fast, and I highly doubt you'd be willing to ride."
That did seem to stump Enid, but just for the space of a breath.
"I'll ride Ivy."
"I'm sorry, you'll what?" Ivy asked.
"Do you want the truth or not?"
"Well, yes, but..."
"The truth lies at the castle, as does the King. Let's go. You guys save the King, and I'll get my confirmation."
