She moved to look out the window. “I wanna see this cemetery. I used to visit the really old ones back home. I always found them fascinating.”

David took her arm and led her toward the door. “Then let’s grab the picnic basket and we can take a walk that way. You can look around the cemetery and then a little farther out is a really pretty spot near a creek. We can take a blanket and have lunch out there.”

Win frowned, waving his hand in front of his face. “That’s a good idea. It’s too dusty to enjoy such a meal here.”

“Well, come on, then.” She grabbed Win’s hand. “Let’s go.”

They approached the small cemetery on foot, David carrying a basket of food and Win carrying a blanket and holding Kat’s hand. The little graveyard wasn’t much, just a collection of odd-shaped headstones surrounded by a crumbling wooden fence. Weeds were overrunning the place, leaving many of the stones unreadable. The ground looked solid and unbroken.

“How long since somebody was buried here?” she asked.

David scratched his head. “At least a couple of years. There’s a bigger place outside the church in Treasure City, and most folks prefer to send their loved ones there. We don’t have a preacher to say any nice words over the dead, and families usually want to take them somewhere that they’ll get a prayer for their souls when they leave this world.”

Kat moved forward and peered closely at some of the stones. “Most of these are over fifty years old.” She walked over to a group of stones close together, a small white fence separating them from the rest of the graveyard. After reading the first three, she straightened, her hand pressed against her chest.

“All three of these are children with the same surname. They must’ve been brothers.” She turned to David, tears welling in her eyes. “The dates say each one died just a month after he was born, and the three dates are only one year apart. How could the same woman keep having babies when they all kept dying when they were just a month old? Wouldn’t the doctor have stopped her, or investigated something?”

Chapter 6

“Kat, honey.” David took her hand. “She most likely never saw a doctor. There aren’t many docs out this way now, and that was almost fifty years ago. She would have delivered the babies at home with just her husband, or maybe a neighbor’s help. Any number of things could have gone wrong back then.”

“What about now?”

“Now, we have midwives and docs pretty close by. I don’t remember the last baby that died around these parts. You already know Mom had no problems with her pregnancies. She delivered fine, healthy babies.”

“She didn’t have you in a hospital, did she?”

David shook his head. “I was born in the bedroom we’re sleeping in now.”

“Oh, God. Okay, I get your drift. Let’s change the subject. Where’s this creek you told me about? I’m getting a little hungry.”

Win took her arm and turned her around. “It’s this way, and it’s not far.”

As they walked down the trail through the trees, the birds began chirping again, and she could hear the flapping and fluttering of wings. The air was fresh with the smell of pine and wet earth. After only about fifteen minutes they came to a clearing. She could see a narrow stream, the water meandering at a fairly slow pace.

David set down the basket and took the blanket from Win. He spread it out in a shady area, close enough that she could watch the fallen leaves bobbing up and down in the current. A rabbit raced across the path in front of them and disappeared into the dense ground cover of heavy vines and moss.

David turned and smiled. “Okay, my lady. Have a seat and we’ll serve you your lunch.”

Grinning, she sank to her knees on the blanket and then moved to sit with her legs tucked up under her skirt. She watched David open the basket. “What’s for lunch?”

He pulled out a loaf of fresh-baked bread and a plate with fried chicken.

“Who made the chicken?”

He smiled. “I did.”

“What time did you get up this morning?”

“Way before the sun came up, pretty lady.”

“You work too hard, David.”

“Nah, I just like to eat. We’ve also got some leftover bacon and biscuits from this morning, a few deviled eggs, and some oatmeal cookies Mom made yesterday.” He pulled out a couple of tin cups and a large jar. “I also made up some lemonade. Mom said that you’ve always like it.”

“That’s true. It’s always been one of my favorite things, especially in the summer months.”

David opened the jar and poured some lemonade into one of the cups. “Well, it’s not summer, but it’ll still be tasty.” He handed her the cup and then pulled out three plates. He deftly placed food on each one, handed them out, and then sat back, crossing his legs on the blanket.

“What’re your dreams, Kat? What do you want out of life?”

He definitely doesn’t want to hear that I dream of going home, so maybe I should tell him what’s in my heart.

“I always wanted to love someone and to be loved in return. I wanna teach children, young children, all that I can. I wanna be that one special person in their life that instills in them a thirst for knowledge.” She took a drink of the tart lemonade and pursed her lips together. “Boy, that has some pucker power.”

David laughed and set his plate on the ground. “Is that all you want?”

“You make it sound like that’s nothing. To have someone truly love you, and not wanna change a thing about you, that’s something really special, David. Not many people find the kind of love your mother has. We all search for it, but it’s like the ever-elusive butterfly—it’s a beautiful concept, but hard as hell to actually capture.”

David moved the food containers aside and scooted close to Kat while Win moved in close to her other side. “You have to believe by now that Win and I both have strong feelings for you.” He cocked his head and studied her closely. “Do you think you could ever feel that way about us?”

She sat her plate down and clasped her hands together. “You don’t really know me at all, David. It’s complicated. I’ve been friends with your mother since we were young children.”

He placed his hand over hers, stilling her motions. “That doesn’t matter. This isn’t about my mother, or anybody else. The only ones who matter are you, Win, and me.” He pulled her onto his lap, bringing her close enough for her breasts to rest against his chest. “Now, I ask you again. Do you have any feelings for the two of us? Because we’re a package deal.”

“David, I—”

He pressed his mouth to hers, taking advantage of her lips being parted, and devoured her in a sensual kiss. She was resistant at first, and then she melted, thrusting her own tongue into his mouth. Their kiss was long, and when he finally broke away, her breath came in short, shallow pants.

David chuckled. “I guess that answers that question.”

“What are you trying to do to me?”

Win slid closer. “We’re trying to show you we love you.” He let his lips feather down her neck. “Let us love you, Kat.”

Kat groaned, suddenly feeling very weak. “But somebody could come along. We’re out in the open here.”

David reached for the buttons on her blouse. “This is our land, and it’s away from any of the main trails. We’ll hear if anyone is coming around.”

She glanced over at the trees and sighed when David’s hand traced her nipple through her chemise. “I don’t seem to be able to think clearly around you two. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.”

David licked the side of her face. “It’s a very good thing.” He bent over and brushed his mouth lightly over hers before capturing her mouth in a hot kiss, his tongue swirling against hers.

She felt Win come up behind her, his erection nudging her buttocks. His hands came around her shoulders, his fingertips running over the top of her barely exposed breasts. He peeled the lace away from her skin as he dragged his mouth along the sensitive skin of her neck and shoulders.

“Wait,” she gasped. “Somebody could really come along. We’re so exposed here.”

David cupped her cheek and gazed into her eyes. “I’d like nothing better than to strip off all your clothes and be buried inside your warm, willing body.” His hand drifted up, his fingers making maddeningly slow circles around the peak of her breast. “But we’ll protect you, love. I swear nobody will see you but us.” Leaning forward, he kissed the corner of her mouth, lightly running his thumbs over the hardening tips of her breasts.

“I feel like I’m in heat around you guys.” Her head dropped back onto Win’s shoulder when David peeled down her chemise, opened his mouth, and sucked her nipple deep inside. Win’s fingertips slipped under her skirt, working tiny circles on her sensitive inner thigh. David ripped open his shirt and pressed closer, rubbing her taut nipples against his chest.

David looked over Kat’s shoulder and smiled. Win leaned over, and the two men embarked on a kiss that made Kat catch her breath. The anticipation of what might happen sent chills racing across her skin. She raised her hand and stroked the hair on David’s chest and stomach.

Win leaned close to her ear. “Raise up for me, love.”

She got to her knees, and he pulled down her drawers, letting his fingers slide over the globes of her ass, his hands tightening on her buttocks. David captured one of her nipples in the moist, warm suction of his lips. Pleasure rocked her body when he flattened his tongue over the rigid tip.

Win had her skirt shoved up to her waist while his fingers slid into the cleft of her buttocks. Her legs trembled when David pressed his engorged erection against her lower belly.

David fumbled with the buttons on his pants. The brown trail of hair down his stomach ended in a thick nest around the base of his cock and balls. He brought her hand to his cock, placing her palm against the veined shaft. She stroked his erection where it rose up from its nest of curls, her thumb rubbing the bead of pre-cum into his skin.

She moaned when Win’s fingers brushed slow, gentle strokes inside her thighs. He pushed the material of her skirt aside and probed her with his thick forefinger, letting it rub over her clit. With a keening moan, Kat let her head fall back as his fingers moved in and out of her pussy.

Win pulled her away from David, laying her flat on the blanket. He pulled her skirt and drawers away, tossing them to the side. His thumb glided along her lip while his fingers traced her hairline. He felt his cock jerk as his gaze slid down her body.

David moved behind Kat, letting her head lie on his knees. Her skin looked pale against the darker hue of his.

Win skimmed the tip of his tongue across the seam of her lips and then teased along her cheekbone. He nibbled her neck, working his way down her body, nipping her shoulders and laving the small bites as she squirmed in pleasure. He prowled down her body, his big hands easing up the length of her ribcage, hovering at the base of her breasts. Licking gently, he took her hard nipple into his mouth. She made a groaning sound deep in her throat when he dragged his teeth lightly over the swollen tip and then latched on, sucking hard.

“Please,” she begged. “I need your cock in me, now.”

Win moved over her, nesting his hips between her legs, his hair falling softly over his shoulder. Leaning down, he took one rosy nub into his mouth and sucked, tugging it with his lips and tongue. He heard Kat gasp and felt her shudder underneath him. Gripping her hips almost hard enough to leave a bruise, he poised at the opening of her body. Grasping his cock, he positioned the tip and pushed slowly inside of her, watching as her flesh parted for him. She sucked in a deep breath as he slid through her cleft. With several firm pushes, he slid into her, sheathing himself until their bodies met.

“Bring your knees up,” he whispered.

Her legs rose to wrap around him, her heels digging into his butt. She ran her hands over his back and buttocks and then wound her arms around his neck. “I love the feel of you on top of me.”

He cupped her bottom in his hands and lifted her hips as he pounded into her. His eyes closed as he continued to thrust, pushing deeply and grinding his hips against her clit and then retreating. His eyes popped open when he felt a hard, warm body pressing against his back.

David licked his ear. “The two of you look so hot together. I want you right now. I wanna fuck you while you’re fucking Kat.”

Win groaned and leaned forward, Kat’s fingernails digging into his scalp. “What about it, love? Are you ready to see us together?”

She clutched his shaft with her inner muscles, breathing raggedly. “Yes, do it. I want us all together.”

Slowly, Win withdrew and then slid back into her. He kept the pace slow, giving David a chance to catch up.

David’s hands caressed Win’s chest, pausing to pinch the flat nipples before dipping lower to touch him more intimately, caressing his shaft as it passed into Kat’s moist, heated center. He moved behind Win’s body, straddling his legs, his hand stroking down his back and cupping his ass. His fingers roved over his buttocks, separating them just enough to slide his shaft between the cheeks.

“I’m gonna spread these cheeks and rim your little sweet hole.” Bending, he licked Win’s crease and teased the puckered opening. He ran a finger up and down his crack, squeezing his balls to help prolong their fun. He bent forward and ran his tongue over his opening, tracing the dark pucker, feeling Win tremble.
