Chapter 27

Dear Diary,

Heartbreak comes in many forms. Tomorrow isn’t always promised…

“Pull up to Liam’s house.” I order Ben as we turn onto the street that would take us home.

Ben nods and quickly turns into Liam’s driveway.

Before the bike even comes to a stop I jump off discarding my helmet to the ground before running as fast as my feet could carry me towards the front door.

Not caring about knocking I plow through the door and then rush up the stairs towards Liam’s room.

I rush into his room.

He isn’t inside though.

My mind spins through every terrible scenario.

God, I didn’t want to repeat history.

Running out of Liam’s room I run down the hall towards the door that led into Cole’s old room. If Liam wasn’t there then I had no idea where he would be.

Stopping in front of the door I swallow my fear and shove the door wide open.

Inside I find nothing.

Everything that Cole had kept in this room had been removed. All that remained was his bed and the dark blue comforter that decorated it.

“Eve, what are you doing?” Liam asks suddenly.

I turn and leap into his arms abruptly before smashing my lips against his with desperation.

Liam leans back for a moment while searching my eyes. “What are you doing, Eve?”

“I thought…” I trail off for a moment before starting over. “Amy said something to me at school today and it scared me.”

Liam nods and then curses softly as he realizes what had happened.

“I’m so sorry, Eve. I just wanted her to leave me alone so I lied to her about leaving. She has been relentless.” He explains.

“You scared me to death, Liam. What you said to her was close to what Cole had said to me before…” I trail off again.

“I never meant to make you worry, Eve. I would never do that. I would never in a million years end things like that.” He promises gently. “I might be upset but I’m stronger than Cole ever was when it comes to dealing with depression, you know that.”

I nod before bowing my head.

“What happened between you and Amy at the party?” I question, changing the subject.

“I was trying to let her down easy for the hundredth time. She was crying and I didn’t want her making a scene so I took her into my room.” Liam sighs softly as he places his fingers under my chin.

He lifts my face up to look at him. “We’re over, Eve. Like I told you before, I love you. I want you and only you, Evie.”

“You’re it for me too, Liam.” I reply wholeheartedly.

“What about Jayce?” Liam questions with a raised brow.

“He was cheating on me. I ended things once and for all at the party when I caught him together with Maggie.” I answer. “After that is when I saw you with Amy.”

“And you jumped to conclusions.” Liam adds for me.

I nod. “I did. I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright, Evie.” Liam grins as his hands grip my hips. “I just have one question for you.”

“And what could that be…?” I push.

“Will you be my girl?” He asks as his grin grows.

“I thought you’d never ask.” I reply with my own grin before leaning up to press my lips against his.

“Hey, Eve, is everything alright?” Ben asks, from just outside in the hallway, breaking up our moment.

I laugh lightly as I pull back from Liam. “I almost forgot that he drove me here. We skipped school together.”

“You are a naughty girl.” Liam laughs before turning towards the door. “Everything is fine, Ben.” He then calls out.

Ben walks into the room with a questioning look in my direction.

I sigh. “I’m sorry, Ben. It was a false alarm.”

“I’m glad it was.” Ben replies. “Are you going to be alright now? I was going to head back to school before they missed me if that’s alright with you.”

“Go ahead, Ben. I’m going to stay behind. I’ll have my dad call the school to excuse me.” I reply. “Thanks for driving me here though, you were a lifesaver.”

“No problem. Eve.” Ben grunts and then waves before leaving Liam and me alone in Cole’s room again.

Once we hear Ben’s bike start up and then drive away Liam moves close to me.

“What do we do now?” He smiles.

“Well, first I have to call Eric and then we go from there.” I sigh as I pull my phone out of my pocket.

“Go into my room and call him. I’ll be in there in a minute, okay.” Liam insists.

I nod while holding my phone up to my ear.

As I walk I listen as the phone rings.

It rings four times before Eric picks up with sirens sounding out in the background. “What’s going on, Eve, are you alright?”

“I’m fine, Dad. Is everything alright with you?” I turn the question around.

“Everything is fine, Princess, just another normal day at work.” Eric answers with a light chuckle before becoming serious. “Why aren’t you in school?”

“It’s a long story, but I got scared and I came to Liam’s house. I’m here now.” I reply truthfully.

“Does this mean what I think it means?” Eric questions with excitement.

I laugh out. “Yes, papa bear, team Liam won.”

Eric hoots out triumphantly on the other end before speaking again. “I’m happy for you but not so much about you skipping school.”

“I won’t do it again.” I promise.

“You better not, but for today enjoy it. I’ll make the necessary calls to the school.” Eric replies.

“Thanks, Dad.” I reply gratefully.

“You’re welcome, Princess.” Eric sighs before ending our call.

With a grin on my face I move into Liam’s bedroom before going over to the edge of his bed to sit down.

When Liam doesn’t show up after a few minutes I lay back on the bed and close my eyes.

I let myself drift off for a little bit.

When a heavy body covers mine I grin and then open my eyes to look up at Liam.

“I’m sorry I took so long.” He whispers before pressing his lips to mine.

Once he pulls back I take my turn to speak as I search his eyes. “Where do we go from here, Liam?”

“We kiss, we make up for lost time, and we lose ourselves in this moment right now. We focus on today, Evie.” He answers simply.

“That sounds good to me.” I smirk. “Now, make love to me.”

He grins seductively. “God, I love you.”

“I love you too.” I reply wholeheartedly. “I love you too.”

Dear Diary,

If there is one thing I have learned through losing you it’s that tomorrow is something no one can actually promise. All we have is the here and the now.

As I move forward into the unknown I will be determined to live as if everyday will be my last. I will love with everything I have and I won’t waste a second of my time.

I will promise Liam today, today and only today.

I’m sorry for the things that I put you through, the ups and downs of our relationship, Cole. Honestly, if I could take it all back I would. Breaking your heart was the worst thing I had ever done and I will never be able to fully forget it. It’s too late for you to forgive me in person but if you’re out there somewhere I hope that you have forgiven me.

I will see you again, I know that, but until I do I will take care of Liam. I really do love him and even though we are still young I see myself spending the rest of my life with him.

I’ll miss you with every breath I take, and you will always hold a piece of my heart.

I love you, Cole, always.

Goodbye.

Losing Levi

Chapter One

“Eden, Grayson.” Mr. Michaels yells out abruptly from the front of the classroom.

Quickly snapping out of my fog I look in his direction.

He shakes his head in anger as he points a stern finger in my direction. “I realize that you only have two weeks left of school but I will not tolerate you daydreaming in my classroom again, Eden.”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Michaels.” I whisper shyly while glancing around at the snickering students around me as I scoot lower down in my seat to hide.

Groaning softly I bow my head while wishing that I could somehow just become invisible just so I wouldn’t have to deal with this torment any longer.

At only five-foot, three-inches, with black hair and blue eyes it was normally easy for me to fit comfortably in everyone else’s shadows.

And that was fine by me.

It was the best way for me to travel through the rest of my days at this high school.

If no one noticed me then they wouldn’t have anything to talk about, I wouldn’t be forced to hear the lies, the rumors, and the horrible names they had given me.

I hadn’t always been this way, but ever since my parents divorced and went their separate ways my world had come crumbling down around me.

My life had crashed right into the cruel realization that life wasn’t always a happy fairy tale story.

Life wasn’t fair.

And sometimes it was just downright harsh.

The people that you thought were friends could turn cruel.

And in the end you could only rely on yourself.

Life didn’t play by any rules, it made its own, and if you were in its way it would run you over without a second thought.

It had been a hard lesson to learn but in a way I was happy that I had gotten the chance to learn this valuable life lesson early on.

Still, it wasn’t easy to handle.

When my dad had left to be with his hidden family, everyone looked down upon my mom and I like we were the reasons that he had left.

As if we had been the ones who had done something wrong.

Dad had owned a few of the big chain stores in town and when he had left so had they.

I still couldn’t figure out why he had closed them down, but he did.

Naturally, the citizens of our little town decided to blame us and not my cheating father.

The hate we were subjected to was varied from name calling, to our tires being slashed on our vehicles, to kids egging our house.

The worst part of it all was the, so called, police that would come to inspect our damages.

Their inspections were laughable.

They were a joke.

And most times when we called them they wouldn’t show up for hours, as if they had something better to do.

Along with all of that madness and stress, Mom struggled to keep up with three different jobs to make a life for us, to keep a roof over our heads, and to keep decent clothes on our backs.

The days of me having the latest fashions were over.

All that mattered to me now was whether or not my clothes were clean.

In less than a week, I had gone from being the most popular girl in school to the most hated.

I was now considered an outcast.

If I’m being honest it really hurt when everyone turned their backs on me, but I had found out just how cruel people could actually be.

It was the one lesson I would never forget.

But in the midst of losing all the rest I was lucky enough to discover a new friend. When everything else had seemed dismal and hopeless he had been there for me.

His name was Levi Mackey.

He had been an outcast, even before I was.

I had never been one of the students that had been mean to him though, and that was the major reason we had quickly become allies.

We had each other’s backs no matter what anyone threw at us.

A small paper plane suddenly flies in front of my face to land perfectly on my desk in front of me and I glance over to Levi who gives me quick wink.

Grinning I unfold the paper beneath my desk.

“I knew you wouldn’t be able to get my sexiness out of your mind, you naughty girl.”

I cover up a snort of laughter with my hand, while crumbling the note and shoving it into my pocket with my other hand.

Taking another peek at Levi I shake my head while barely holding back my laughter.

He was a good looking guy with dirty blonde shaggy hair, green eyes, and his body was fit with cut muscles, but he always appeared worn down.

His drunken father was the sole reason for that.

It was all caused by having to taking care of him in his drunken state at all hours of the day and night.

Levi’s father was a vicious man too.

Looking at Levi now I could still see the faint bruising on his chin where his father had hit him last, and I knew all too well that there were even more bruises hidden beneath his clothes.

Sometimes when he would stretch or move I would catch glances of darkened skin just underneath his shirts.

I had even caught him once slipping on a clean shirt at my house and what I had seen would have given anyone nightmares about what had happened to him.

We had spent a lot of time together over the past few months, but through that time we had never been more than just friends to each other.

We had become best friends, best friends that kept each other from falling too deep into the deepest darkest parts of our minds.

Apart, we both had our own personal demons that made everyday a constant battle for us.

But together, we kept each other from falling to far into the depression that we both were suffering from.

There had been countless times where we had talked each other from taking that last step that would forever change the lives of everyone around us.

Sadly, it seemed that we were always on that edge and just a breath away from falling the wrong way.

We walked haphazardly on that precarious fine line that defined life from death.

I could still remember the night that Levi had found me locked in my car with my wrists cut wide open.

I had sat there wanting everything to end as I watched my own blood pour from my cuts and onto the surface of the seat below me.

I had been fascinated by it, and I had almost welcomed death that time.

Levi saved me that night, he had given me a reason to keep moving forward, and from that moment forward we had always been there for each other through the hardest times and the easier ones.

There were still so many times we both had wanted to give up though.

Neither of us wanted to feel our pain any longer.

But we refused to let the other one go.

We fought for each other.
