No words then, just kissing, hands moving lazily in the dark, Lizzie melting against him, forgetting everything else. When they parted, she wound her arms round his neck, wanting to breathe him in, keep him close. Dangerous words bubbled to her lips, but she bit them back. It’s not time yet, too soon. Later, she promised herself. Later she’d tell him, when everything else was settled and smoothed out.
Instead, she asked, “do you really want dessert?”
“Not really.”
The Other coursed through her, sensing her intentions. “Fancy a race back to yours?”
Seth sensed her intentions too. “And ruin another good shirt?”
She tugged at the collar of his red shirt, flicking one of the buttons open. “Winner picks the prize?” she offered.
“Ah. Now that’s fighting talk.” He released her, hurriedly undoing his shirt. She didn’t bother trying to keep up; it would be more fun to give him a head start. Besides, this way she got to watch him strip. “You’re going to lose,” he warned her as he kicked off his shoes.
“It might be worth it,” she replied, grinning.
Seth laughed and began to change, his body slowly taking on wolf-shape. Lizzie watched, let him complete the change, let him bark mockingly at her before he darted off into the shadows.
The Other moved swiftly within her, rising up to take her over. Lizzie let the wolf take charge, let it’s desires and hungers fill her up. It was okay, she was still Lizzie underneath. Human first. “I’m okay,” she whispered into the wind. “I’m going to be great.”
She fell into wolf shape, her heart beating its old tattoo.
I am, I am, I am.
